Overview

About the property

Note: We respond within 1 day or less and have never missed a response.

Large (almost 2200 sq ft.), 3 Bedroom/3 Bath 1/2 duplex on 10th St. in Key Colony Beach.

Sleeps from 4 to 8 people.

The beautiful front door opens onto a unique spiral staircase leading to the upper living area. The entire upstairs has been updated and decorated and features a new kitchen and new furniture in the living room. The master bedroom features a gel/memory foam king size mattress, updated furniture and a new ceiling fan. The second bedroom features 2 full size beds, with new headboards, updated furniture and a new ceiling fan. The two upstairs bedrooms feature flat screen TVs.

The rest of the upstairs is an open floor plan with a 42 inch flat screen TV. We have Xfinity cable on all TVs and WiFi available if you want to use it. There is an updated, stainless steel microwave, dishwasher and a brand new (July 2015) stove/convection oven. Both upstairs bathrooms have recently been updated as well.

The downstairs features a living area which includes a new American Signature queen sleeper sofa and love seat. Also downstairs is the 3rd bedroom which has a king size bed, and its own full bath, and is really a second Master suite. The entire downstairs has been newly painted for an updated look.

There are two large sliding glass doors both upstairs and downstairs to allow you to enjoy the beautiful view of the clean canal through the lovely Mahogany trees. The trees provide shade all day long, so you can enjoy the deck any time of the day! There is also a balcony upstairs where you can sit and enjoy the view, including some breathtaking sunsets. There is a Weber gas grill for you to use to cook your 'catch of the day' or anything else you might enjoy.

We just completely reconstructed the 37.5 ft dock which also has lighting and a new fish cleaning table. There is even an outdoor shower. A large picnic table and various lounge chairs are available to enjoy the outdoors. We also recently completed staining the entire deck area and have added some new potted plants to make it even more inviting. Open water is only a short 5 minute boat ride to either the Atlantic or the Gulf side via Vaca Cut.

The Cabana Club is included with your rental which gives you access to their large heated/cooled pool, their own private ocean side beach, a fishing pier, game room and a full service lounge/bar. They also now offer free pick and drop off from any house on Key Colony Beach.

About M Ho

We have been vacationing down in Florida for the last 13 years and for the last 10 have been coming to the Keys. We started diving back in 2003 fell in love with it. We love the great sea life as well as the wildlife topside. Pelicans are a particular favorite of ours. The color of the ocean and the tranquility of the beaches has just always made us feel like we were coming home whenever we came down, so we finally decided to officially make it somewhere we could call 'home.'

M Ho purchased this house in 2012

Why M Ho chose Marathon Area

We like the middle keys because they are centrally located. We can drive an hour in either direction for great diving in Key Largo (Pennecamp Park is world famous for diving) or great night life/dining in Key West. One of our favorite restaurants in Key West is El Siboney (cuban). The diving off of Marathon is actually really great too and where we tend to dive the most. We have almost always stayed in Key Colony Beach as it has so many amenities within walking distance and beautiful beaches all it's own.

What makes this house unique

Coming down to the Keys has always made us feel like we were coming home, so we recently decided to make it official and buy our own piece of paradise to truly call home. This property has several unique features we really liked. The front entrance was beautiful and enters into the foyer with a unique spiral staircase. The back of the house has large sliding glass doors, top and bottom, which give you great views out to the fully decked back yard and canal. The Mahogany trees give us shade at all times of the day, so you can enjoy the deck almost all the time. From the upstairs you can look out and see the trees and the canal and not even see the neighbors across the canal. It is a really peaceful setting. The wildlife has been great as well. There is a great white heron who visits regularly and there are iguanas, geckos, anoles and various other lizards that are fun to watch. We've also seen some good size snapper, rays and a large Tarpon swimming in the canal. We can't wait to be able to see even more every time we get to go down there.

The relaxing atmosphere, access to beaches and quick boat ride to open water (Atlantic or Gulf) for diving or fishing are just ideal.

Best vacation in 5 years!

  • 5 of 5

We are a family of 5 and our 3 adult children invited their significant others. This home was perfect for the 8 of us. Everything about it was perfect, clean, everything we needed and more. The location on the water and in Key Colony Beach was what we were looking for and more. We rented our boat from Vacation Boat Rentals and that was an easy process. A plus vacation!!!!

Great Family Vacation In The Keys

  • 5 of 5

Excellent house in a great location! We were very happy with this house as it exceeded the description and our expectations! Ideally located in the middle keys, we were able to take advantage of all the activities they have to offer. Docked the rental boat right out front and was able to be in the open water in a just few minutes. Being next to the Key Vaca Cut, we had the option of boating on the gulf and atlantic without going far. Besides the boating we enjoyed the beach and pool right in the neighborhood when we weren't relaxing on the deck.

About an hour from Key West, and just minutes away from restaurants and stores, this was a terrific location for our family vacation.

Perfect middle keys home for 3-generation family

  • 5 of 5

This canal-side house was perfect for our 3-generation family’s visit to the Keys. The dining and living room furniture are just what we needed, the beds are comfortable and we prepared breakfast and nice dinners for six nights in the very adequate kitchen. The tree-shaded deck is attractive, and great in the mornings and cooled off by dinnertime. The outdoor shower is a great addition for washing off diving/snorkeling equipment.

We spent every day on “adventures,” visiting the turtle hospital, the dolphin place, Long Key with a ranger, Sombrero Reef (even the six-year-old snorkeled, while his four-year-old brother was on a small raft with a window), and Bahia Honda State Park. We kayaked the canals and both the bay and the Atlantic near Key Colony. Then each late afternoon we happily swam in the ocean and made sand castles on the shore at the Cabana Club, and then retreated to the warm water of the swimming pool there. Evening walks included checking up on the burrowing owls, and singing and drawing in the sand at Sunset Beach with other happy Key Colony residents. Later night walks revealed incredibly starry skies. It seemed that most Key Colony folks were out walking and on bikes in the mornings and by about 6:00 each evening. Unfortunately we didn’t have time for shuffleboard, bocce and paddle ball in the park (equipment is available, free, at the 9-hole golf course), so two small grandsons are hoping for a return another year. We all felt the week was perfect.

There were a few small housekeeping glitches with the realty/cleaning company, but they were soon solved after we contacted them. The company also passed word on to the owner, who is a lovely woman, so she was totally informed. This is an owner you can feel comfortable renting from.

snobyrd

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful home. The place is spacious and very comfortable. Found it easy to keep clean and all of the new additions were great. Spent a lot of time on the back deck by the canal enjoying the shade of the mahogany tree and watching nature. We ate most of our meals on the balcony because of the great weather. The lower living space was wonderful to have . The only thing I would say about it was there could be a few more hooks in the bathroom for hanging clothing. The patio doors let in a lot of natural light complimenting the home. We only used the dining area doors because the living area screen doors could us some TLC. I'm very glad we had the chance to stay here. Would recommend it to friends and relatives. KCB is our favorite winter getaway!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. We are very glad that you enjoyed your stay at our vacation home. We try to make it a comfortable environment, and we greatly appreciate hearing back from our guests as to how we are doing. Your suggestions are appreciated. We do have the screen doors on our "to do" list for our summer update, so we will address that issue this year. We will also add some hooks in the downstairs bathroom as well. Again, thank you for your review, and we hope you are able to come back in the future.

Spacious, Clean and Relaxing Vacation Home

  • 5 of 5

We recently returned from a fantastic vacation in this wonderful Key Colony Beach home. Thau and Maureen have provided everything you might need for a great week in paradise. Home is spacious, clean and comfortable. The photos are accurate and this home is everything advertised. We had perfect weather the week we were there. We were a little bit concerned that the afternoons would be warm since the home does not face east but the trees provide much welcomed shade. We definitely recommend this home. We didn't want to leave!!

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for your comments. As new owners, we are trying to make sure our guests do have everything they need. We made a lot of progress with our updating when we were down there in early July, and there are still a few more things we want to tackle in the next year or two, but we are very happy to hear that you had a good time at our home. We hope you will want to come back next year.

Great place!

  • 5 of 5

We've been going to the Keys for years and we have stayed at this duplex since 2009. This place has been our favorite place to stay. This year, we rented in late May. We saw many upgrades done by the new owner.

Love everything - new paint, new TVs!, new master bed, new kitchen cabinets, new dishwasher and thanks for the dishwasher detergent to get us started.

The new sofa set upstairs are great; very comfortable and contemporary. We did rearrange the furniture a little so everyone can have a good view during movie night. We dare not angle the TV. It's also very handy having a washer dryer on premise.

The spiral staircase is a great shortcut to front door or carry groceries upstairs. For bigger, heavier items like suitcases, the back staircase works much better. There are sufficient lightings all around the house - just have to figure out which switch is which!

Spacious 1st floor. We converted the 1st floor "dining area" to our inside fishing station, storing fishing and diving gears. There's a much larger and complete dining area upstairs. Lots of dry porch space to store big ice chests and more fishing gears.

We had internet issues when we first arrived but it was quickly resolved after a phone call to the owner and their phone call to the internet server who rebooted the system from their end.

The place was kept clean when we arrived - cleaner in comparison to previous years we've been there. Located on a very active canal. Seen lots of sea creatures - sting rays, snappers, mullet, even dolphins once in a while!

Wonderful place for anyone who wants a great place in the Florida Keys! Will highly recommend it to anyone.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. As new owners it's nice to hear that our updates are appreciated and that we are on the right track. We know there is always some room for improvement, and we are trying to be receptive to all suggestions so those who do choose our property for their vacations will have an enjoyable time at our place. We just bought a label maker, so we can label all the light switches, because they can still confuse even us! We have a new sofa bed and love seat coming in about a week for the downstairs living area, and we will be doing a few more upgrades in the downstairs area soon. We are hoping to also re-do the back deck (weather permitting) so that it will look better and last longer as well. Thanks again for your nice review.
