Grace Cottage: Cozy. Affordable. Perfect for a small family!

Bedrooms 2
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 - 7 nights

About the property

Cabin, directly on the lake, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 5-7)

Thanks for stopping by! Maybe this is what you're looking for: an AFFORDABLE place for your small family to escape the heat and enjoy a pristine mountain lake, a quiet and beautiful couple's Fall getaway, a place to fish, swim, explore. You've found us!

Our cottage is not fancy or huge. It's cozy, clean and right on Lake Nantahala, one of the highest and cleanest lakes in the Eastern U.S. We bought the cottage years ago as a perfect escape from the busyness of Atlanta. Now we want to share it with you.

We have no pool tables or hot tubs or wii's. We DO have a great private dock, books, videos, and a place to simply unwind without all the usual distractions of home. Swim from our private dock. (Bring your snorkle gear ... i usually see fish when I snorkle around our dock ... the water is crystal clear) Bring your boat (ramp is 2 minutes away) or rent one from Lakes End Marina (or use our canoe). Kids love our dock, the many streams to wade in, and places to hike and explore (we're practically surrounded by the Nantahala National Forest). Parents love the quiet setting, our collection of books and movies, and the fact that your cell phone won't work up here! There are great restaurants 20 minutes by car (or ride your boat across the water to Lake's End Grill), a Super Walmart in Murphy (35 minutes away) for supplies, hiking trails all around (the Appalachian Trail is 20 minutes away), whitewater rafting close by, and lots of places to wander. We are not Disney World. We are quite pleased to be 'all natural'.

Beautiful Western NC

  • 4 of 5

Grace Cottage is a lovely stay; the porch is perfect mornings with coffee, noon with lemonade and nights with wine! And yes, it is a trek to the dock. We quickly learned to take a day's worth of gear and necessities down to the dock and hope there's no need for a quick lope to the house! My recommendation is to incorporate landings along the way to build breaks into the steep hike up and down.

Lake's End Café is a reasonable drive, offers good food and another part of the lake for the kids to swim. Thanks for an awesome visit. My granddaughter had a blast. Oh, and Blaze, the dog, thanks you too!

Owner's Response: I'm SO glad the stay was good for y'all! And ... a "half-way" stop down the hill sounds like a good idea. Perhaps a stash of candy! And ... I'm glad Blaze had a good time. Pippa, our Springer Spaniel has become an expert dock diver. I have to be careful when i jump in because she always jumps in right after me.

Rustic tranquility

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful lake in an extremely secluded area. Comfy house with great deck. I was there for the eclipse. One thing I would change would be to rent a boat rather than pull my own through all the mountain switchbacks. Lost 4 pounds climbing back up from the dock! Rafting and hiking day trips rounded out a great week.

Owner's Response: Yep. Those mountain roads can be a challenge with a boat trailer! Soon ... i hope to buy a pontoon boat (again!) and have it available to rent to our guests. I'm jealous that you got to see the eclipse from the lake. And glad you guys had a great week. Blessings! Curt C. Grace Cottage

My best vacation yet!

  • 5 of 5

Such a great little place. So quiet and relaxing. We are so glad that we picked Grace cottage to spend some family time together. Owners were always helpful and even called to make sure we made it and everything was good with the house. The view is amazing and the lake is so calm. The path to the dock is no joke though. I definitely got my leg workout in but worth every step. All the neighbors wave and the local marina staff were awesome. Hope to get back very soon.

Better than a Box of Tranquilizers

  • 5 of 5

My husband, Dan, and I, both 68, had a a fabulous time at Grace Cottage. We spent hours on the beautiful deck (equipped with comfortable chairs and all sorts of water play things like a rubber raft. The swimming was divine: we were happy as porpoises. We had expected icy water (even in July) but no, the water was refresing and easy to dive into. We made friends with a duck who hopped on the deck as we read or fished. The stone and wood path to the lake is steep--something that the lovely owner, Curt Cloninger, was clear about--so it's not ideal if you have knee or hip problems, but great for your innner Billy Goat.

The house too was lovely and spotless with comfy furniture and a beautiful deck where we spent all our time if we weren't on the dock. We were welcomed at the cottage by a note and bottle of wine, a lovely gift. And the cottage was so well equipped with towels and sheets and coffee maker and condiments. Pretty much everything--except you should take your own toiletries--shampoo, soap, etc.

The Cloningers are obviously lovely people, and their home reflects that.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the kind review, Deborah! My wife Tish (65) and I (63) have a bit of the "inner Billy Goat" about us too ... keeps us young! I'm glad you made friends with the ducks. They NEVER sit on the dock when we are here. Our Springer Spaniel makes sure of that. Lately she's taken to dock diving and swimming after them in the lake. I think they love to taunt her, but she is bound and determined to catch one some day. Blessings!

Beautiful getaway

  • 5 of 5

My family had a wonderful time at Grace cottage! We spent hours on the deck watching birds and swimming off the dock. We brought out boat so did lots of fishing and we caught bass, sunfish, and trout. This is the first lake we have found on the east coast that compares to the California Sierra lakes!
