About the property

The simple pleasures in life often relate to nature. Imagine a clear, starry night in the hot tub or the sound of rain on the metal roof while snuggled on the couch in front of the fire. Birds chirping in the morning, wild turkeys crossing the property and an owl hooting as the sun sets over the ridge. Our 5 acres of land provide the perfect peaceful retreat in the mountains. Whether you're looking for a quiet romantic weekend for two or a fun-filled vacation for the family, our recently built cabin will not let you down.

Long distance views from both the main deck and private hot tub deck will ensure a relaxing, back-to-nature stay. You can forget the cell phones and computers for a true break from the real world if desired...but full cell signal with all known carriers and WiFi allow for reality checks as needed.

With all modern amenities, one won't need to leave the cabin, but the surrounding area has so much to offer to the adventurous at heart. Conveniently located less than 20 minutes from downtown Asheville, 12 mintues from the Blue Ridge Parkway, 20 minutes from the Biltmore Estate and Black Mountain, 30 minutes from Chimney Rock/Lake Lure and Hendersonville, this quiet getaway is still close to all the attractions and activities.

Why Lisa chose Blue Ridge Mountains

We absolutely love the Asheville area - the mountains, endless outdoor activities and 4 distinct seasons allow us to appreciate and fully enjoy nature year-round. When we met as teenagers, we dreamed of one day building our own mountain escape (with a fabulous view, of course).

We were involved with every aspect of the building process; from the beginning stages of staking out the property lines and house site in the snow to personally delivering almost every nail, bolt and load of lumber. Our hearts and souls were poured into this cabin while attempting to balance our full-time jobs, lives and every detail of the project...but every minute was worth it, without a doubt.

What makes this cabin unique

With the cabin facing South, year-round natural light invites guests to gather in the living area and relax on the decks.

As is the case in much of Asheville, the roads around our cabin tend to be steeper than what many people are used to. Our driveway is steep and narrow in sections (about 300 yards from the bottom to top). Access is not a problem, however, and we both own small 2wd vehicles that do just fine around Asheville and our cabin. We also have stairs leading from the driveway to the cabin door, which, for those with mobility issues, may pose a problem.

The cabin is located within a private community, in which Rules and Regulations apply to residents and visitors. This makes for a truly quiet and relaxing stay in the mountains. Please note that noise, privacy, parking and other rules must be respected throughout the private community.

Relaxing and comfortable place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our week at Lazy Bear Cabin. The driveway was steep and there are stairs as other reviews have mentioned but they're manageable. The cabin is comfortable and nicely decorated. The mountain views are great! I especially loved the mountain views as the sun was going down. We couldn't have picked a better place.

mountain hideaway.

The first thing you noticed as you drive up the mountain roads is how secluded your cabin is. However, your actually only 20 minutes drive from downtown Asheville and close to grocery and drug stores. The driveway is narrow and I would strongly recommend going past it to the cul de sac so you may approach it from a safer angle. The steps to the cabin are very steep and will give your legs a workout. Once inside you will appreciate the steep climb because of the amazing view. Thier are two bedrooms, the first floor gives you more privacy because it has a door. Where the loft bedroom is nice and very spacious, but no door. The deck where the hot tubs gives you ample enjoyment and privacy.

Peaceful, beautiful get-a-way

  • 5 of 5

The only thing better than spending the days hiking around Asheville and eating at the town's innovative restaurants was to come back at the end of the day to a beautiful house in the mountains.

The house is well equipped: the kitchen has everything one would need (inclluding a bottle of wine waiting to welcome you), everrything is spotless and very inviting, and there's a gas fire and a hot tub to enjoy the evening hours.

The driveway is steep. Our little prius could've made it but we were glad to rented a small SUV. We were there in the early spring so it wasn't especially slippery, but I'd want to make absolutely sure the roads were paved and salted and we had chains on the tires if venturing out there in the snow or ice. But on our lovely spring days, the steepness of the mountain just gave us gorgeous views and serenity without trouble.

The stairs to the house might be challenging for those who aren't able bodied, but compared to the driveway and the road up to the house, they seemed pretty tame, with anti-sliip surfaces and a fine handrail.

The hosts were very helpful with a book of suggestions and maps and quickly answered all of our questions.

When we travel, we look for beauty, cleanliness, warmth, openness, and quiet. This house had it all, and then some.

Perfect getaway with easy access to everything.

  • 5 of 5

The short story: the photos and description cannot do this cabin justice. It is very nice, well equipped, very private, and yet just a short jaunt from anything you need. You'll feel like you've stepped into your own private mountain retreat, complete with everything you'd need. Book it. Enjoy it. Simple.

The owner has all of the communication and hospitality aspects down pat, so you'll know what is expected and will feel welcomed into the area.

In the interest of fairness, I could only come up with these warnings: (1) the roads up to the cabin are no problem, but the driveway is narrow and steep, so I'd try to make your first approach in the daylight; (2) the steps from the driveway/parking area up to the front door are also steep and numerous, so you need to be in reasonable physical condition to get to the door (the cabin is worth every step, though).

Drive for just 15 minutes and visit "Nachos & Beer" for great Mexican food, "Piazza" for pizza, pasta, etc., and Ingles grocery for anything extra you want to have in the cabin. All of Asheville, including the Biltmore and the Blue Ridge Parkway, awaits just 15 to 20 minutes away. We will be looking for reasons to book again and return to this property.

Beautiful Views not far from Asheville!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I went for a long weekend of Presidents Day weekend. The cabin was clean and as advertised in the pictures. I loved the Jacuzzi and the views from the cabin. It wasn't a long drive to Asheville, maybe 20 minutes. We got Uber to pick us up one night and it was about a 18-20 dollar ride. The cabin is in a neighborhood but plenty of privacy as the houses are not close. Lisa, did a fantastic job communicating and everything went accordingly, they even left us a welcome bottle of wine. Only thing I would suggest is maybe some curtains in the upstairs bedroom. We like to sleep in past sunrise, so it got quit bright in the bedroom. But we just moved to the downstairs bedroom the next night and it was fine. Also beware that the microwave is quit powerful, as I was re-heating some food with a papertowl covering it so not to splatter and apparently it got so hot the papertowl started smoking, lets just say the smoke alarms work quit well! :)

To respond to the other concerns in the other reviews. Driveway was steep and narrow to turn around but did not affect us, it may have been more of an issue with more then one vehicle in the driveway. We had AWD suv but I'm sure a 2 wheel car would be more then fine. We even arrived late at night and had no issues, however, it was dry and no snow was present for awhile. Stairs are steep leading to the cabin, but hey you're on a mountain, of course you have to have steps. They are a little strange with the gravel within the steps so watch your balance carrying your bags to the cabin. Lastly, since its a new property, google maps doesn't show the address, but just follow Lisas directions and its pretty easy to find. Even our uber driver found it, pretty easy.

Overall it was a fantastic weekend and would recommend the house to anyone looking for beautiful mountain views but close to Asheville.
