About Lauren Rauch
Coming from a small town in Pa. our family built this home in 2000 after spending almost 14 years vacationing on Daufuskie. My Dad played in the Harbor Town Heritage Pro Am Tournament for several years, and it was the one place our family would vacation each summer, some falls, and even a few Christmases.
Why Lauren Rauch chose Melrose on the Beach
The Island has such rich history, including a little First Union African Baptist church we attend while we are there, with a rich history that could never be matched. We grew up vacationing on the island like it was a second home. We found Indian pottery and arrowheads while walking the beach. These are just a few of the historical aspects deeming Daufuskie to be so unique, rich, and diverse in its offerings.
What makes this House unique
Listening to the calm and serene sounds of the Calibogue Sound, & watching the bald eagles fly by, and viewing the fireworks at Harbor Town and Tybee island on the 4th of July are just a few things we see from our front porch. Our home is set up to enjoy the company of one another, to cook and share a meal, catch blue crabs in the ocean when the tide is low, or share dinner with an islander at the Daufuskie Crab Company, the Eagles Nest at Bloody Point, or Lucy Bell's Cafe'. Enjoy listening to a live band with the locals most in season weekends. These are just a few of the special things we look forward to enjoying on our visits to this island paradise we call Daufuskie.

This lovely home was a wonderful getaway for our family. The views are spectacular!
The house and island are bewitching- can't wait to go back!
I think bewitching might be the best way to describe this funky little island and this beautiful ocean front home! The house reminds me of a southern ante-bellum mini-mansion. Opening those big double doors we walked into a beautiful home that far exceeded our expectations (the pictures do not do it justice).
We loved the incredible views from the master bedrooms. Every morning started out with incredible fiery sunrises streaming through my windows. I can't imagine a better way to wake up. The house has a fantastic layout for big groups with five suites and two of those suites have incredible beach front views.
Nobody is in front of you minus the beach. We saw dolphins swimming by and no people that passed by-- PERFECT! The wrap around decks are also incredible. The island is quirky and people are so incredibly kind. We thought it would impact our stay having some of the restaurants and the golf course shut down, but it really didn't. It was so easy to eat in and we have the best view anyway so we spent a lot of our time enjoying the views and the house. We did go crabbing which was fun and we found Brandy with Island Carts to be incredibly helpful getting us to the house and renting us a golf cart. The restaurants we ate at were delicious and the people acted like we were old friends everywhere we went.
We travel a lot and my husband always wants to see and do new things but this time he said, "We have to come back here once a year." Thank you Twigg family for sharing this charming home with us!
Great Home for Large Family Vacation
Our family had a wonderful time at the Twigg house during our stay from July 10-15, 2016. We were a group of 8 adults and 5 children, 4 years and younger. The house worked great for our large group. We found the large open area downstairs and the big porches were perfect for the little ones' play area when we didn't feel like venturing out into the hot midday sun.The dining area with seating for everyone to eat at one time made meal time fun. We greatly appreciated the two sets of washer and dryer and having the beach towels supplied. And having a very active 14 month old, we were especially grateful for the stair gates, pack and play and booster chair that were provided! The views of the ocean were spectacular, especially in the early mornings. Lauren was very helpful and quick to respond with my many questions prior to the trip and even during our stay. She really went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed while there. We felt like we had "stepped back in time" while on Daufuskie, and came to appreciate the slow, relaxed pace on the island. We enjoyed the golf cart rides to explore the rich history of the island and found the people to be very friendly. It was a very fun and memorable family vacation!
Absolutely Wonderful in Every Way
Our family of twelve stayed in the Twigg House June 1-10, 2016 and found it to be perhaps the most wonderful house we've ever rented for vacation. The minor complexities of reaching and departing Daufuskie Island are well worth working through for first-time visitors to the Island like our family. From the wonderful pottery dishware to the new beach tent for infants, Lauren and Susan took very good care of us all. You can be sure we will be returning to the Twigg House in the very near future! Paradise at Daufuskie Island
This was our fourth trip to Daufuskie and it was by far the best! The Twigg house was wonderful, even better than the pictures and description. The location was wonderful. The views were unbelievable. The sunrise every morning from the Master Bedroom was breathtaking! The home is very comfortable for 2 or 14. The kitchen is well equipped for anything you want to cook. Everything was clean and well-maintained. I can't say enough about how great the owners were. They answered every question quickly. We really felt like they were old friends! The whole process of renting was so easy. We ate at Melrose Beach Club, Marshside Mamas, Eagles Nest and Old Daufuskie Crab. The food and service at all was great! We also rode bikes, played golf and rode horses. Riding around the island in a golf cart with our dog was a highlight of our trip. Thank you Lauren for giving us the opportunity to stay at such a wonderful place. We can't wait to come back in June with our children and grandchildren!
We could not have picked a better place to stay! First off the making of the reservation was painless & the owners could not have been more helpful , friendly and accessible. Once we are arrived the house was unbelievable but so comfortable. Everything we needed to cook with or entertain was there, not missing a thing. The morning view was UNREAL & the sunset was beautiful. I say this without hesitation, if you want to stay on Daufuskie Island you need to stay at the Twigg house. We had the best time & made memories that will last a lifetime. Thank you for allowing us to stay at your beautiful home.
