Tropical Home nestled among the coconuts

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,200 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Sand, sun, and water during the day....lazy, tropical breezes at night

Cracker Landing is aptly named for the Florida owner's affinity for the Florida Crackers who settled this land. The owner is descended from many early settlers to southwest Florida. The name reflects a respect for the beauty of the coastal island and for the lovely, interesting life the waters provide. The home is situated in the middle of the island, requiring about a two minute walk to the

beach....approximately 500 feet to the boardwalk. Gentle breezes blow most of the time. There are community boat ramps for those who wish to bring their own boat. There is also a water taxi available for hire at minimal rates. You will need to pay for parking on the mainland at Eldred's marina, which is currently $6.00 per day.The house is fully air conditioned, has two flat screen televisions, Wi-Fi, and all linens, dishes, and appliances are furnished It is a two-story house with two open decks to sit on. You can relax with your

coffee on either deck as you enjoy the tropical flowers, coconut trees , and watch the ospreys and seagulls as they fly the azure skies.

The inside of the house is mostly paneled with cedar . The upstairs loft-room is also pecky cedar with numerous windows to provide an open feeling. The house has an outdoor shower for showering off the sand from the beach.

About linda bailey

I am a third generation Floridian who has a great respect for the ;Old Florida; style of living. That connotation implies a closeness with the land, with honor, and with a more simplistic approach to life. Little Gasparilla provides a peaceful sojourn for me as I watch the Ospreys fly about and as I often watch the incredibly lovely, yet changing colors of the daily sunsets.

Why linda bailey chose Placida

My husband and I loved the natural beauty Little Gasparilla Island provides. We built our house in 1984 . It has an abundance of natural cedar wood on the walls; has provided many happy, family times over the years. The appliances are modern, the house well-maintained and is designed with numerous windows for those who like the open feeling.

What makes this house unique

All comforts of a home setting while being also close to the bay and 7 miles of gorgeous gulf beach. Extra lot next to the house provides for privacy and room for children to play. If you are looking for absolutely gorgeous beach and outstanding fishing...then welcome home, traveler. You have arrived at the right spot.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Cracker Landing offered my family and me a terrific chance to sit down and do things together that we forget to do in the hubbub and rush of our lives on the mainland. The beach is gorgeous, the bay lovely and the house provides a really comfortable setting with all the modern conveniences yet a sense of privacy and a time for reflection. Each day, my family and I had an opportunity to discover something new and exciting at the beach.

My husband and son enjoyed fishing off the dock and attempting to catch shrimp when the current was flowing. My daughter and I spent most of the time looking for shells at the beach and building sandcastles near the water. The house is two story with two twin beds in the loft and a double bed. The main floor bedroom is spacious and has a king-sized bed. There are two bathrooms and a large tiled shower. The entire house is furnished nicely and is designed for leisurely activities. We loved staying there and hope to return again next year.

Wonderful and peaceful stay at LGI

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at Linda's so much! The walk to the beach and the dock is manageable (not so with suitcases - - there is a wagon for use to bring luggage back and forth when arriving and leaving). Plan ahead regarding groceries, I recommend stopping at Publix on the way to the dock for arrival to eliminate the need for multiple trips. We used the water taxi once more in the middle of our stay (~1 week) to re-stock on groceries. Cash only, but there's an ATM at the little shop at Eldred's Marina. Cost for taxi is $40 round trip with 2 people, $60 round trip with 3.

The home was surrounded by lush foliage, and at times, it felt like we were the only people there! The sharks' teeth at the water's edge were fun to find, there was an osprey nest on a pole on the way to the beach (when we were there, they sounded the alarms and flew around to protect the nest - I think there were young ones in there). Sunset was a good time to look for dolphins in the horizon. Once you get past the mild surf at the shoreline, it was calming and pleasant to "bob" in the water, once you submerge to your neck, you will be used to it. Wear watershoes or flip flops if you plan to walk the beach. In many places, there are more shells than sand.

Further advice - - I took a walk the first night we were there, without bug spray on my legs and feet. Bad idea! I was ravaged with little red dots, and think they were sand flies. They didn't itch, but they really stood out! After that, I went full DEET on my legs and feet when going out, especially around dusk. Should have been common sense, but I never thought of it.

All in all, the house is stocked VERY well, we even made a cake. The grill was convenient, and we cooked everything, except for a dinner at Leverocks. They had great food and very reasonable prices, but it is crowded, even at "off" times. In February, it was extremely loud outside, and we opted to dine inside. Many snowbirds frequent the place. If you're going to get a specialty cocktail, be sure to ask for the price in order to avoid a surprise on the bill.

Walking around on the island, I saw a gopher turtle, such a cool animal. The birds are phenomenal, especially the soaring large birds (eagle, osprey), and the snowy egrets, adorable sand pipers, and pelicans galore!

Linda answered all of our questions and was a fabulous host to us. She checked in on our during our stay, but we had everything we needed! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!

Island Paradise

  • 5 of 5

Feb. 2018 Overall we had a great time. Linda was very hospitable and available to make us comfortable. The property is a bit older but like a cute rustic cottage set amongst lovely tropical foliage. We loved sitting on the deck listening to the surf and birds. The beach, sunsets and shelling were fantastic. We will be back! J & J from Ontario

This house has character !!! We loved it.

  • 5 of 5

The wraparound wooden deck on the second story overlooking coconut palms was second only to the bedroom loft on the third floor! You really feel like you are on a secluded island when you're at this house. Short walk to the beach or the bay...we had a wonderful stay and Linda (owner) was great to work with and extremely friendly. We would do it again. This house has plenty of room and sleeping space doesn't feel cramped. I highly recommend it.
