About the property

4 Br House. Close To Beach And Town

About The House:

North Fork Cedar shingled house in Greenport, with large garden, open plan lower floor and 4 separate bedrooms. The house is situated one and a half block away from the beach, and about 10 mins walk in to the centre of Greenport with restaurants, shopping, carousel, train station, Hampton Jitney and lot's of fun stuff to do. The house has a bedroom on the bottom floor with a queen bed, and on the 2nd floor, there's one Master bedroom with a queen bed, a smaller bedroom with a full size bed, and a kids room with a twin sized bunkbed that will fit large as well as small children. All bedrooms have plenty of storage options, and separate Air Conditioners making the stay comfortable for all. The kitchen is open, spacious and a joy to cook in. It opens directly into the dining room, living room and garden allowing you to socialize and entertain. The kitchen is equipped with a dishwasher, large sink, a great stove and a washer and dryer. All in one place and with plenty of countertop space to do some elaborate cooking.

The house have been decorated entirely by us from scratch. It's an eclectic mixture of all sorts of things that we've found and collected throughout the years, but it has a distinct beach house feel, with lot's of wood details and small creations around the house. It's painted white everywhere, with lot's of reclaimed wood and fun textiles.

Perfect for parents:

The garden at the back of the house is completely enclosed with fence all around it, giving privacy but also piece of mind while parents can sit on the patio at the back of the house and watch the kid have fun in the garden. There's also a 12 foot trampoline at the back of the garden that seems to keep the little ones busy for hours at a time. The shed at the back of the garden have a couple of beach bikes for adults, plus four different sized bikes for kids (from small to large). We also provide a bunch of stuff to bring to the beach, like beach chairs and umbrellas etc. The beach is very close to the house, so it only takes a few minutes to walk down there. The beach has a lifeguard in the summer, and a nice playground with climbing frames and swings. There's also a crib for smaller children available that can be placed in a bedroom if needed.

About the location:

The house is situated just of the main part of Greenport village. It's close enough to leisurely walk in to town in 10 minutes, or ride your bike in under 5, but far enough away from the hustle and bustle that Greenport experiences at the height of the summer. Greenport itself is a hidden gem, that for some reason few people know about. In many peoples opinion the best town of both the south and north fork, as it's very compact but centered around the marina which gives it a very different vibe. The village has a very family friendly feel, with great restaurants, ice cream parlors and cute shops. There's always tons of events going on in the summer that is perfect for families. It's easy to get here by either LIRR trains, or even more conveniently the Hampton Jitney. Both train and bus is easily walked to from the house(3-4 blocks ~5 mins), so no need to have a car if you're happy to stay around Greenport.

About Emil Lanne

Emil and Ruth Lanne are Swedish and English transplants living in Brooklyn with our two young daughters. We are both designers by occupation, and the house in Greenport is our little weekend escape from the city during the fall, winter and spring as well as our creative outlet for home decoration and other fun projects.

Emil Lanne purchased this house in 2008

Why Emil Lanne chose Pipes Cove

We got married and had our wedding in Greenport a number of years ago, and have since then been frequents visitors to the village of Greenport. We eventually decided that it's the perfect place for a retreat out of the city and have been fortunate enough to find this little house to call our own. The whole family loves everything that the town and house has to offer, and we love spending as much time as possible there.

We love Greenport and have been coming out here for years. Our family is growing so we need at least 4 bedrooms. This met our needs well. A well stocked kitchen , nice appliances, great yard .. Close to wineries , beach, Shelter Island , restaurants and farms... lots to do. Highly recommend !

Beautiful, in town home

  • 5 of 5

Loved our stay. Immaculately clean and really charming. Had everything you need for a summer vacation included there, bikes, BBQ, etc. Outdoor shower was a favorite too, the only one I used all week. Can't wait to rent again!

Beautiful, comfortable home in heart of Greenport

  • 5 of 5

My family spent two wonderful weeks here and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The location is great - within walking distance to town (10-15 minutes) and also the 5th street public beach (5 minutes). It is also a great location to explore other beaches and wineries along the North Fork. It is also a short ~10min walk to the train station, Jitney and ferry to Shelter Island which we found very convenient.

The house has all the amenities you would need including beach gear, cookware, wifi, outdoor grill, etc. Emil was also a very attentive host and was incredibly responsive even while he was traveling out of the country with his family.

We are a family of 3 but also had some extended family stay a few nights and the house was more than comfortable for 4 adults and an infant.

I would highly recommend this house to anyone who wants to enjoy one of the most quaint towns in the North Fork. You can't beat the location + charm + comfort!

Perfect vacation in Greenport!

  • 5 of 5

My son, daughter-in-law, and 5 year old grandson loved the house. My grandson was especially thrilled with the bunk beds, trampoline, and kid sized kayak. He will remember this vacation for a long time. Also a favorite with everyone was the outdoor shower. The house was well kept and very clean. An extra bonus was the proximity to both town, the beach and the playground. You can walk or ride bikes everywhere. The owner was a pleasure to deal with.

Great house, great location

  • 5 of 5

We had such an amazing time at Emil's house. Myself, wife and 2 year-old daughter vacationed with another couple and their 2 year-old for a week and could not have asked for better accommodations. The open ground floor layout was social, fun and easy to keep an eye on the kids. We spent a lot of our time in the backyard playing on the trampoline, running around on the grass and BBQing. The home is very charming with modern touches -- clearly Emil has an eye for design. The location could not have been better as it was a short walk to the playground on the beach at the end of the street and 10-15 minute walk to downtown. Emil was extremely responsive to all of our questions and was super helpful with our pre-trip planning. We would absolutely stay there again.

Greenport is a small village unique to the north fork because of it's location on the Peconic bay and very distinct character. In the summer the village transforms thanks to the many summer guests, and there are an ever increasing number of great restaurant, bars and fun little shops to browse and experience around the marina and village center. The town is big enough to have everything you would need, but still small enough for everything to be within walking or biking distance.
