One of 7 highly restored, separate units in a unique home built in the mid-1800’s and formerly known as the Kennedy house. The first level bedroom features a queen bed with Smart TV complete with cable access and streaming capability. A spiral staircase offers access to a loft bedroom featuring a full size bed and large dresser and closet. A full size leather sofa bed with a second smart TV is provided in the living room which boasts wonderful daytime and nighttime views of downtown San Diego. All beds including the sofa bed are equipped with high quality memory foam mattresses and the best quality linens available. The furniture, drapes and decor are of modern classic design with no expense spared. Both the kitchen and bathroom are highly equipped and tastefully upgraded. All linen and towels are provided as well as beach towels, a baby high chair and toddler utensils. The property is located 3 minutes from the Convention Center, Gas Lamp district and ball park and 4 minutes from the Island of Coronado & the Airport. Freeway access is located around the corner and bus stop transits to and from downtown are both located within a block. About John Reardon

I grew up in Northampton Massachusetts, a town with countless beautiful old homes and lots of woods. I spent countless days in my youth building tree forts never knowing that those 2 dynamics would intersect at this point. Upon arriving in San Diego with an interest in building and purchasing real estate, I became immediately interested in the largely neglected Victorian buildings in this area of town. This property became a labor of love for me many years ago and I hope that legacy will be carried forward by my 3 sons. My wife if Japanese, so our family often divides our time between 2 very different worlds, both with much to offer.

Our property is located immediately adjacent and on the slope above Downtown San Diego which has become the center of energy for all of San Diego. Restaurants and bars of every conceivable type, shopping, theaters, the library, the airport, San Diego Municipal Golf Course, Golden Hill Park, Balboa Park, San Diego Zoo, Sea World, the Del Coronado Hotel, Beaches, Major Freeways and the Airport are all very close and accessible.

First the good. This was in a location close to town and it was simple to get to all of the areas. Parking was always available and the grounds of the actual unit were in very nice shape. There was an area to keep my bike rental and onsite laundry was useful. Also, the owners were very attentive and fixed a broken smoke alarm immediately when asked.

Now the not so good. The neighborhood looks to be going through some changes and while I never felt unsafe, there is a sizable homeless population in the area (tents pitched on the sidewalks nearby). The streets and sidewalks in this area are pretty grimy and the unit we stayed in needs a little TLC. The unit felt tired and needs a deep clean. I am sure these units get a lot of use and it is just due for some maintenance. If it was just me I would probably stay here again but my wife would probably want to skip it and pay a bit more to stay in a different neighborhood.

Owner's Response: As the vast majority of our reviews are extremely positive, there is rarely a need to interject our thoughts, but in this case it is warranted. We work extremely hard to respond to every request made by our Guests and maintain our units in impeccable condition. We have owned this property for over 23 years and in that time we have not experienced 1 incident of crime. We are located above a major city and like all major cities in America San Diego has its share of homeless individuals. Actual incidents of a homeless people in proximity to our property is fairly rare and a quick glance at the experiences of the vast majority of our guests convey nothing but positive experiences. My young children have been at our property countless times over the years and we have never felt unsafe in any way at any time.

Clean and well appointed property....EXCELLENT LOCATION!

I would highly recommend this property for someone vacationing in San Diego or visiting the La Mesa / Lemon Grove area. We were 10 mins from the Zoo, battle ship, and many San Diego attractions. The property has a no shoes policy which I practice at home so no problem for me. I actually prefer it. The property was very clean. One of only 2 VRBO's that I didn't clean upon arrival. There is a beautiful back yard, front porch, and fire pit if you have time to relax at the end of the day. Easy access to hwy 5 and 94 which are main routes to any place. Neighborhood is safe. Street parking was fine. The first night I had to park just around the block, we arrived in the middle of the night, but the rest of our stay we were right out front on same side of street as our rental. The property was just as described by owner and he is a gracious host. I am a VRBO frequent user so I rent based on reviews.... This is a good one!

Great location, close to downtown San Diego, polite and responsive owner and staff

The property and property owner, John, were great. We were provided with a detailed Welcome Letter outlining all the information about the property, how to access, where to park, etc. and the owner was readily available through messaging and replied promptly (within 30 min or less). This location is located on a main street (Market) with easy access to bus stops and is also within walking distance of downtown San Diego. Bus fare from the unit to downtown was $7 for three people and taxi service was about the same amount; usually $7-$9 depending on pick up point and traffic in downtown (if taking the taxi we would recommend walking to Market and 6th and catching the taxi to keep the fare in the $7-$9 range and that is also where the bus stop is located).

We were vacationing and also attending an event at the San Diego Convention Center which gave us easy access to our destination, Little Italy, the USS Midway Museum, Harbor Tours, San Diego Zoo, it was a 15-20 minute drive to Sea World, and about 15 minutes to La Mesa where we did some shopping. It does sit on a main street so there was some traffic noise occasionally with fire trucks and emergency vehicles; however, this was not an issue for us and would not deter us from staying here again. There is a grocery outlet on Market and also a leading retail neighborhood market close to the property (both within driving distance or you could walk if you do not need many groceries). Also provided easy access to the freeway without being too busy.

We stayed in Unit #2 on the second floor and the unit was clean, had full-sized appliances in the kitchen, and provided enough room for our group of three. It would also provide enough room for up to 4-6 people comfortably. Free street parking was within the same block of the property and there are laundry facilities on-site for use which made it easy. The property has a secure door keypad access to the front door and for each unit. All the tenets were very quiet and we did not have any issues with noise from neighbors, the staff we came into contact with was nice and polite.

We had a great view of downtown San Diego from our unit because our unit faced Market Street and we would definitely stay here again. Thank you to John and his staff for a great stay!

Very cozy, extremely well located.

The listing was accurate, the rental is not very big but clean, very conveniently located and very well equipped. Close to highway, Costco, Walmart, beaches, Zoo, Seaworld etc...John is always ready to assist in any way. Had a great stay and I would recommend it to anyone visiting beautiful San Diego.

Great stay in San Diego!

The five of us enjoyed our stay in the apartment. We were comfortable, the apartment was clean, there were all the amenities we needed, the bus stop was right across the street, and the landlord was most attentive when we needed something minor. I would definitely stay here again.
