The Medicine House — A Blue Ridge Sanctuary for Rest & Renewal

Welcome to The Medicine House, a tranquil mountain retreat nestled among whispering trees just five minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway, seven minutes from downtown Waynesville, and thirty-five minutes from Asheville. It’s the perfect balance of privacy and accessibility — a place to breathe, restore, and reconnect.

Created with care and devotion, this sanctuary has been a space of deep healing for us, and it brings us joy to share the peace and presence we’ve found here with you.

From the moment you arrive along the gravel drive, the calm of the forest begins to settle in. Step inside and feel the warmth of a home inspired by journeys through the Indian and Nepalese Himalayas — where simplicity and sacredness meet.

The wraparound porch invites slow mornings and restful evenings. Enjoy tea as the sun rises, unwind in the hot tub and barrel sauna beneath the stars, or gather by the fire pit for conversation, song, or quiet reflection. Whether you come to restore, celebrate, or simply rest, this space invites you to arrive fully and be met by the mountains.

At the center of the house lies a living room designed for presence and connection. Large windows draw the mountains inward, and the outward-facing couch offers a place for contemplation and conversation.

At its heart stands a central altar — around it are instruments, books, and art chosen to evoke stillness, curiosity, and reverence. You’re invited to engage with the space in your own way — to sit in silence, create music, read, pray, or simply be.

The home offers two serene bedrooms: a king suite with a full bath and a queen suite with a standing shower. Each room is designed for rest, with soft light, natural textiles, and subtle reflections of harmony and devotion.

The kitchen is fully equipped for ease and nourishment, complete with a rotating selection of coffees, teas, spices, and local goodies.

Within a thirty minutes drive, you’ll find some of the most breathtaking overlooks and trails along this side of the Blue Ridge Parkway.

We’re happy to share our favorite local hikes, cafés, and hidden gems nearby.

The house stays naturally cool beneath the trees in summer; open the windows for the mountain breeze, or use the central HVAC system as you wish. In cooler months, the gas logs in the living room offer cozy warmth — perfect for quiet evenings or conversation by firelight.

Our wish is that your time here supports your rest, your rhythm, and your renewal.

This is a special place. The amenities are excellent, but what makes this particular property head and shoulders above other places is the ambiance that has been carefully curated. There are both a hot tub and sauna, but in addition to these, it is the view and huge windows that grace the living room, that lifts this place up. Everything is very clean, there are excellent choices for teas and condiment options. This is our #1 favorite place! We hope to return for a week in the future.

The property was beautiful, secluded and quiet. It was super close to Cataloochee, and was close enough that we could still have DoorDashed food so that was convenient.

This was the relaxing weekend getaway that my husband and I desperately needed following the holidays. The home was super clean and had everything we needed to enjoy both the indoors and outdoors. I cannot imagine not coming back here next year. When I first saw the listing, I said to myself, this is exactly what I have been looking for, and it was. From the decor and ambiance, the hot tub and sauna, the wind in the trees as I ate breakfast on the porch, to the thunderstorm outside while I was curled up on the couch with my book inside, this house was magical. The Host was prompt with replies and very helpful with recommendations. The House is in a great location. It is off a main road but far enough away and up that you feel surrounded by nature yet you are only minutes from the entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway and about 10-15 minutes from Downtown Waynesville, which has great stores to wander one to the other and delicious food to keep you going. It is also in a central location to visit Asheville, Cherokee, Maggie Valley and numerous other surrounding towns and points of interest. The kitchen is fully stocked and I cooked most of my meals in the house. The king bed was comfortable, not too hard or too soft, the shower water was hot with great pressure, the towels soft and the house is open and airy. I left rested and rejuvenated and looking froward to my next visit. I recommend this house to everyone.

Our stay at The Medicine House was fantastic!The house was clean when we arrived and stocked with amenities. It was very nicely decorated and the beds and furniture were comfortable. There was a good selection of cookware and a decent amount of kitchen staples available to use, I especially liked the selection of teas! The views from here were amazing, especially while relaxing in the hot tub.I booked this trip last minute because I needed to get away from work for a few days. I was at my limit with stress induced from owning a small business. Despite only being here for a couple of nights, my stay has greatly helped in reducing my stress and clearing my mind.Thank you Kate and Nick for opening this house to us and I will be coming back.

The Medicine House was a wonderful experience. The beautiful porch and floor ro ceiling windows made the mountains part of the house. I would definitely stay there again. The hosts were extremely attentive and very detailed. It was excellent!

Terrific communication with hosts & easy check-in! Location was superb & the hot tub & sauna was a huge plus! The healing vibe of the property was delightfully present. Given the price, I didn’t expect the property to look so tired. A deepcleaning would also be beneficial. All of that said, we had a lovely stay. I hope my review helps to manage expectations.

We created The Medicine House as a space for rest, reset, and reconnection. This home has held a lot for us — quiet mornings, deep conversations, healing, and growth.

Hosting allows us to share that same sense of peace with others.

Whether guests come to celebrate, reflect, or simply get away, our intention is that they feel supported, at ease, and able to slow down in a way that’s hard to find in everyday life.

We’re grateful to open this space and be a small part of people’s time to rest, reconnect, and return to themselves.

We chose this area for its unique balance of privacy and access to some of the most beautiful parts of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

The home is tucked away in a quiet, peaceful setting where you can truly unplug, while still being just a short drive from the Blue Ridge Parkway, scenic overlooks, and hiking trails.
