Mike & Theresa have lived in Sonoma for nearly 10 years. As local business owners, they know this small town and its attractions well, and bring a level of hospitality to the cottage which you'll appreciate!
Mike & Theresa purchased this cottage in 2012
Lazy Oak Cottage will be our full-time home when we retire! Sonoma is a special town; we pinch ourselves that we get to live here, and we feel very fortunate to be able to share the spectacular vistas, people, and wine with our guests!
Sitting in the shade of the front porch is a wonderful way to while away an afternoon. The shade from the large namesake Oak tree over the property keeps everything about 15 degrees cooler than out in the sun, and sitting there just feels somehow... right! To help enjoy the cool breeze, we've placed a teak glider bench next to the front door to enhance the experience. The travertine patio gives privacy just steps away from both cottages, and around back is a pergola with optional gas firepit and comfy chairs. A couple of chaises as well as other lounging furniture makes the backyard incredibly relaxing. Pick some tomatoes and pinch off some basil from the herb garden drizzle a little olive oil, mix in some slices of asiago cheese and you've got a wonderful, simple Mediterranean tomato salad like Nana used to make!
We were very pleased with this house and we had such a good time visiting Sonoma valley and tasting generally good wines. The information received by owners were usefull, the house was decorated with taste, well equipped, well located, causy and comfortable. The weather was perfect for this time of the year(decembrr 25th thrue january first).Higly recommanded.
Mike & Theresa's cottage in Sonoma provided a great place to relax in the evenings after our days of wine tasting. The location is a great starting point to get to wineries in Kenwood, Dry Creek and Napa. We also visited Calistoga, which is only a bit farther. If guests are flying into Oakland, this location is only 1 hour and 5 minutes away!
The cottage is conveniently located near downtown Sonoma where groceries and other items can be found. The place is decorated beautifully and the outdoor space is lovely! The only reason I am not giving it 5 stars is an issue we had with the circuit breakers in the kitchen. The cord for the coffeemaker wouldn't reach the plug in the cabinet above it so we moved it onto the top of the microwave. When we were brewing coffee, using the microwave and the toaster at the same time, we threw the circuit breaker. Fortunately, Mike & Theresa left great notes and we found the panel and reset the breaker. I think an extension cord for the coffeemaker would be helpful so that it can be plugged in away from the microwave. We will definitely consider this cottage in our plans for our next visit to wine country!!
My toddler and I spent the week after Thanksgiving in Sonoma @ the Lazy Oak Cottage. It was perfect for us! We loved the comfort and layout of the home as well as the awesome courtyard (in particular, the wine barrel fountain) I loved the charm and special design touches Mike & Theresa clearly have curated. Aside from being a lovely home, Mike & Theresa were very communicative, responsive and helpful (I asked to move my already booked Dec trip to Nov and Mike was great about it) I definitely recommend staying here if you are looking for a home base in Sonoma Valley. Can't wait to come back and visit soon!
We really enjoyed our Thanksgiving stay at Lazy Oak cottage. The cottage was clean and welcoming when we arrived. I was able to prepare a traditional Thanksgiving dinner for our family with the supplies in the kitchen. Only thing missing was a potato masher or hand mixer.
We loved the gas fireplace and used it a lot because of the cold weather. The outdoor fire pit was also lovely but we only managed one sunny but cool afternoon to enjoy that. The Sonoma area is wonderful and we were able to visit a few of the places recommended by our hosts. Thank you!! We enjoyed the Holiday Open House and visited several wineries over two days .
We would definitely recommend to friends and use again. Thank you from our family. Happy holidays!!
We arrived on a Monday afternoon for a quick 2 night stay with our family. We utilized both homes on the property and everyone enjoyed their accomodations. We cranked the fireplace on in the mornings to add extra coziness to the place and ventured out to the Basque Boulangerie to get some breakfast treats on our last morning in Sonoma.
Everything has been thought of in Mike and Theresa's home. It truly feels like you are home away from home. They even had little shampoo and conditioner bottles in the bathroom. Our 3 year old enjoyed playing Jenga and picking tomatoes off the vine.
This truly was a great and relaxing getaway that we won't soon forget! Thank you for opening up your home!
Cozy cottage!! We were warmly greeted upon arrival by Mike, and were immediately impressed.
Interior is charmingly decorated, immaculately clean and maintained. No amenity was spared. Full kitchen, heated bathroom floors, comfortable beds and furniture, remote controlled radiant gas fireplace in the living room, fully updated bath with shower and tub. Washer and dryer were welcome, as we had an extended stay. Only wish there were 2 baths, which would make cottage perfect for 2 couples or very small family.
Backyard is amazing, private, with a beautiful gas fire pit, 4 conversation chairs, loungers, dining table, fountain, herb, tomato and citrus gardens.Owner encouraged us to pick what was ripe. Great space for entertaining guests staying elsewhere.
Regarding location, cottage fronts a well travelled street within 2 miles of town center. It is minutes away from restaurants, tasting rooms, galleries, and grocers. Our favorite part-two excellent quality bikes and locks were provided. My husband and I had a very enjoyable day riding to and from wine tastings around town. I walked to a nearby park (Ernie Smith) for some exercise and found it tranquil.
We recommend touring General Vallejo's property, the barracks and mission church in Sonoma, the "Bank" in Guerneville for ice-cream and pie, the Armstrong Park to hike through the redwoods, Sebastopol for shopping and market, and Bodega Bay head for birding, hiking and the awesome views. Grab a crab sandwich at Spud Point. Jack London Park in Glen Ellen was incredible, take a whole day to hike and picnic there.
Highly recommend this lovely cottage, already miss cozying up to the fire, and drinking wine in the gardens.
We'll be back. Thank you Mike and Theresa for your sharing your little piece of heaven.
