About Mike Smith
We bought this cabin next to my parents cabin after a big storm had nearly destroyed it. We spent a year fixing it up, and have enjoyed it ever since. I grew up coming up here as a child, and was so lucky to give the same experience to my children. It's a wonderful place to simply be, to take time to nap, sleep, enjoy a creek, play hide-and-seek in the trees. It's lovely.
Mike Smith purchased this Cabin in 1983
Why Mike Smith chose Cazadero
The long story is my father grew up going as a Boy Scout from San Francisco to Camp Royaneh in the 1930's, just up the road. After WW2, and he had married my Mom and adopted us kids, he wanted the same experience of getting away from the City, so he and my Mom bought the cabin. So I grew up going up here, my older brother went to Camp Royaneh, and we spent many summers here. So my husband and I bought the cabin next door, and my kids grew up being able to run back and forth from the cabins and spend time with their Grandparents. There is nothing like a Creek in the woods for a lesson in Ecology for children. They can see tadpoles become frogs, water skeeters chasing smaller bugs, trout eating flies. At night, we wander down to the Creek and shine flashlights over the water to see bats eating. In the Fall and Winter, when the rains come, the small creek becomes a small river, and the smell during and after the rain, well, it smells fresh and primeval, like the world did at the dawn of time. We welcome you to stay and find out for yourself.

Great stay. Rustic but that was what we wanted.
Overall, very satisfied. It rained a lot and we were very cozy. We used both fire places/pit. Owner was slow to respond to emails but eventually did. Would recommend check out directions be posted. No cell service but that was fine with us. It was all that was advertised.
Appropriately spartan escape from the rat race we live
Fairly easy to find during the daytime. Do not use your GPS! It will take you through Occidental. Place was clean, well equipped and close to the beach, nearby towns, state parks, shops, art galleries, etc. The only suggestion I have is to replace at least the grill of the Weber and clean out the wood stove (it was full of ash and wood and paper that failed to burn). I cleaned it out and it worked nicely. I will stay at this place again.
nice little cabin
Right on the creek, great wood stove, nice appliances, new wood floors.
This is a simple, lovely retreat in the redwoods -a perfect, cozy Christmas cabin.
We were fortunate to find this little treasure for a quiet Christmas retreat.
Quiet relaxing weekend
Enjoyed our stay at this rustic cabin - slept like a log and best of all met the neighbors who shared their outdoor fire and we had a wonderful evening .
Cute cabin in the woods near a great creek, bodega bay and the Russian river
The cabin is little and cute with great outdoorsy decor! It's recently had some renovations done to it, some of which are still in progress... and it had a few random damages when we arrived... loose threshold between the bedroom and living area, sofa arm that had been chewed on by another party's dog... and a random hole in the bathroom that was left open to the attic area lol just to name a few... they made us laugh, but it gave it more charm)...overall it was pretty clean and comfortable... the outdoor fire pit and seating area was where most of our party spent the majority of the time! We saw a non operational gas grill.. which we had planned on using, but we bought some charcoal and used the BBQ instead!
We had 5 adults... only three slept in the cabin the other two slept in a tent outside... the pull out bed was not very comfortable so we ended up utilizing our cots we brought (we came prepared) to accommodate everyone!
Its location... that's the best part! When you sit outback you are literally surrounding by redwoods! It's Close to Armstrong Park, the Russian River and backs up to Austin creek! Bodega Bay was a short very scenic 25 minute drive for us! We thoroughly enjoyed everything about this cabin and have been wondering about "Sandy" since we left!
We would stay again!
Mike I recommend spraying for spiders and updating your check in/check out instructions! :)
