About Wendy Gates
Hi there. My name is Wendy. My story in Glacier National Park starts in 1990 when I visited my brother working in Many Glacier. 6 years later, during the summer of my freshman year in college, I worked in Many Glacier myself. In 2004, I applied for a teaching position in Browning, Mt., home of the Blackfeet Tribe, border of Glacier National Park. I was a full time classroom teacher for over a decade traveling from India to Mexico as well as spending 5 years of that experience teaching in the locale town of Browning. Raised in northern Idaho, I love this area and the activities available here. More recently I worked as a ski instructor for kids at the Whitefish Mountain Resort on Big Mountain in. My better half, known as "Smiles", and I also run a fishing guide business during the "off season", Sept - March, on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington state. (See Silver Lined Guides on Google as vrbo does not allow us to include urls). So, you might catch him doing work around the yard or fishing on one of the many local streams.
Wendy Gates purchased this House in 2013
Why Wendy Gates chose East Glacier Park
We love the extra space of a double lot and the sound structure of the well built house. I had driven by this house and admired the tulips for years, so when we saw a for sale sign next to those tulips, I had to try! Happy to call this place ours!
What makes this House unique
This well equipped house offers WIFI and Directv, the On-demand and high pressure hot water system means there is no running out of hot water. (We have had multiple guests vote this "THE BEST SHOWER OF THEIR TRIP".) It sits on a double lot with a small aspen grove in one corner, a great view of Dancing Lady and plenty of running space for children. The BBQ and PICNIC TABLE are a pleasure in the afternoon and setting sun of the evening, and, it is only ONE BLOCK FROM THE FAMOUS SERANOS RESTAURANT. There are a few nice gardens which I will undoubtedly expand as I love flowers! The feeling one gets from the open space in the yard and the looming mountains not far away is unmatched.

Best vacation rental in East Glacier!
EG is very small - pop 391 per the sign - and this is clearly the nicest property in the town! The house was exceptionally clean. We had everything we needed and having a W/D was the best! Keep in mind it's very basic - no frills. I was disappointed that there is NO outlet in the bathroom, but I got over it. There's a mirror & outlet in one of the BR, but the lighting is poor. However - if you're here to hike - appearance isn't a priority. The yard is also the nicest and largest in town. The bakery is a MUST - delicious is an understatement. We will stay here again for sure. Per the owner's recommendation - we did grocery shopping in Helena - also a great tip as we saved lots of money. Despite the wildfires - this was a wonderful vacation.
Great home base for our trip to Glacier!
This simple little house in West Glacier was the perfect home-base for our trip. It's a bit of a drive to St. Mary, Many Glacier, and East Glacier/Apgar, but it was centrally-located enough that none of the trips were too far. The house had everything we needed, including bear spray. The kids loved walking to the store for treats, and the Rock & Roll bakery was amazing. We also loved Serrano's! Wendy was a great host, and even took care of the beginnings of some wasp activity we noticed while we were there.
Comfortable and roomy two bedroom house that was spotless in East Glacier
We were pleasantly surprised by the size of the house--more than enough room for a couple. It could easily accommodate a family. We appreciated the garden and enclosed yard as the only disconcerting thing about the area was an abundance of dogs roaming.
The Serranos restaurant was excellent, as was the Rock N Roll bakery. The nearby store was well stocked. All these were just a short walk away.
Our host was very responsive and extended our stay for a late checkout the day of the eclipse so that we could observe it. She also provided a delicious bottle of wine that welcomed us. We enjoyed dinner at the nearby East Glacier lodge and wished we had enough time to also eat at Bison Creek Ranch which others raved about. This is extremely well located to explore the east side of Glacier NP. Accommodations were spotless.
Thanks guys! We are adding some features in response to your feedback: increasing privacy fencing, adding shrubbery for visual and audio insulation as well as insulating windows, and
I am glad that you enjoyed your stay. As previously stated, getting used to the K9 culture here on the reservation is a bit crazy. Having said that, we recognize that this is something that we can address and we appreciate the feedback. So, we hope that you can visit again and thanks for helping to increase the value of this Glacier Park experience for those to come.

Cabin was clean and had all essential supplies and loved the bottle of wine.
Cabin was very clean and liked the location of it. The only downfall is that we had barking dogs every night to keep us awake.
The entire town of East Glacier Park is on the Blackfeet reservation and dog ownership/responsibility is a bit of a traditionally obscure concept. I am so sorry that you were disturbed by this issue. I understand your position and will invest in more infrastructure including more insulated siding and double pained windows this spring as well as extending the privacy fencing. I appreciate the feedback as it directs my investment in increasing the comfort and quality of your stay at our vacation rental. Thanks!
Great Home Base for exploring Glacier
Glacier is HUGE!!!!! so this is a great place that is within a 90 minute drive to all that Glacier has to offer. The house was perfect for a couple but would easily accommodate more people. It was clean and offered all the necessities for preparing home cooked meals and cleaning up and relaxing after a long day on the trails.
Very nice place would definitely stay again and would recommend to anyone wanting to spend time in Glacier!
Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay and hope that you have the opportunity to return for another visit!

Way better than any hotel in the area.
Super convenient location as a base for enjoying the East Side of Glacier. Easy drives to Two Medicine and even all the way up to Many Glaciers for a day trip. We stayed with our two kids and they both preferred the bunk beds they were so comfy. The master bed was great as well and it was fun having a yard (very well kept and lovely btw), even got a chance to school my 12 y.o. in horseshoes. While to house is obviously old it is updated and comfy. We noticed a couple of ongoing update projects including a bit of electrical but they were tucked away before our stay and didn't effect the stay. Keep up the good work, it could be a real gem when you're all done. I'm sure your rate will go up as the updates are completed so get it now while it's such a bargain. And thanks for the bottle of wine and helpful maps and area info when we arrived. Will be staying again next summer.
Thanks so much! We are glad that you and the kids were able to truly enjoy what this location has to offer. Horseshoes carry wonderful family memories for me as well. We hope to see you again when you return to our little gem just outside of Glacier National Park!
Thanks! Wendy and Smiles
East Glacier is a great little town with nice shops featuring local pottery, art, wood carving and general Glacier Park gifts. Many restaurants are within a mile walking distance of the house and the entire park, east, west, north or south side, are accessible from this centralized location. The town of East Glacier sits on the southeast corner of the park. Therefore, West Glacier, the west entrance, is only 1 hour west, St. Maries is less than an hour north and Many Glacier is just over an hour north. Waterton, Glacier's sister park in Canada is also a relatively quick trip at just around 2 hours north. The Canadian Rockies are extremely majestic with shear cliff faces that inspire awe. I have also heard reports, and have myself seen, abundant wildlife in the general Waterton area. Bring your passport. For more specific information on activities that interest you, just ask!
