Overview

About the property

3br, 2ba, Sleeps 8, Forest Views, Privacy, Comfort And Rustic Charm

The name of the cabin, Rustic 'Sol', captures its essence. Modernised and comfortable, the cabin retains its rustic Tahoe charm and soul. And atop a rise and south facing, it basks in glorious 'sol' (sun). And yet there are many more outstanding features……..

The land to the north slopes gently down over conservancy and forest service lots providing privacy, forest views, and excellent tobogganing opportunities.

The 2 storey cabin has been renovated and appointed with a thoughtful combination of antique and modern furnishings to provide a comfortable stay while maintaining the rustic character. Some qualities include:

- Gas fireplace/stove for ambience and to protect the air quality in the Lake Tahoe basin.

- Triple pane windows for a draught free and warm stay.

- Central heating to ensure that every room, including the bathrooms, is comfortable.

- 46in LED Smart TV with access to internet apps such as YouTube, Pandora, etc; HD free to air TV stations; and a large library of movies and TV series.

- A chef's kitchen with granite counter tops and all new appliances

- New king and twin mattresses, bedding, and down comforters for a good nights sleep

- High speed internet, wifi and a telephone to stay connected.

- Access to Chamberlands private beach (beach ONLY, no pool or tennis access).

Rustic 'Sol' is the ideal mountain getaway regardless of whether it is outdoor adventure or relaxation that is on the agenda. The cabin is convenient to amazing skiing, hiking, mountain biking, and spectacular sandy beaches on the lake. In the summer, take the free shuttle to the beach, or in winter, call Homewood Mountain Resort for a free pickup.

Please note that the driveway is narrow and curves upwards to the house, hence, AWD/4WD or 2WD with snow chains is recommended in winter.

About Mike Eseltine and Ling Ng

We are a family of four living in Australia, but with Californian roots. This is our mountain getaway, which we hope to get back to at least once a year. In the meantime we hope you enjoy the cabin and mountain air as much as we do.

Mike Eseltine and Ling Ng purchased this house in 2013

Why Mike Eseltine and Ling Ng chose Lake Tahoe West Shore CA

How many ways do we love the mountains?

We have hiked, backpacked, snowboarded, skied, camped, and soaked in hot tubs throughout the Sierra Nevada mountains.

We completed the John Muir Trail.

We got engaged at the top of Mt Whitney.

We named our daughter Sierra.

And now we have Rustic 'Sol' to continue to build and sustain mountain stories and memories.

Cute house but........

  • 3 of 5

The cabin was certainly adequate but it would have been good to know how small the 2 guest bedrooms really are. There is not much room to move around in either room, especially once you include your personal belongings - would be fine for children but not for grown adults. My adult son finally ended up sleeping on the couch as the double bed in the downstairs bedroom wasn't large enough for both himself and his wife. My other son and his wife slept in the upstairs bedroom with the twin beds - both slept poorly - both complained that the beds were too hard, one humped in the center, the other sagged in the center. Neither slept well during their stay. Beds are so important to a rental - it's unfortunate that the beds detracted from an otherwise enjoyable stay.

A few other comments. An ice maker in the refrigerator would have been appreciated. We had to keep making ice - shouldn't have to do that in a vacation rental. Also,

there was only one kitchen towel left for our use for an entire week - had to go purchase additional towels. At least 2 or 3 would have been appreciated. Small things but impactful.

We love Tahoe and will come back again but will not rent this house.

Warm and Cozy Rustic Cabin

  • 4 of 5

Loved the location - close to Tahoe City, Emerald Bay and skiing. The home itself is a little confined downstairs with an adequate sized kitchen, dining table and sitting area all in one - a little tight for all of us (6 adults and one child) but the weather was awesome so we were outside most of the time. The upstairs is very spacious and bright however. Master bedroom is huge and all the beds were comfy. The house was spotlessly clean when we arrived and is very well equipped with all the cooking utensils, bed linens and towels you would need. We brought extra cooking gear with us just in case but did not need anything - and we love to cook! Despite the home being a little on the rustic side as far as decor, it was very welcoming and homey! The highlight of our 2 night stay was building a sled path down the side of the property and racing down the hill on the sled that was left for us on the front porch. Overall, great value for the money!

Great Stay

  • 5 of 5

My family and I recently stayed at the Rustic Sol and found it to be charming, well appointed, and very clean. Good WiFi, great location to Homewood and Squaw Valley. The Rustic Sol is a wonderful place to come back to after a full day of skiing. Can't wait to come back to Lake Tahoe and stay at the Rustic Sol again.

A very pleasant stay

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our weekend at the cabin. It is very charming, well stocked and is conveniently located. We were 3 couples and 2 children, and it was just the right amount of space for us. The owners were great to deal with, as well. We would definitely consider staying here in the future!
