About the property

Cabin, 3 Bedrooms + Loft, 2 Baths, Deck, next to a greenbelt (Sleeps 8-10)

Just steps from Tahoe National Forest, this beautifully furnished Chalet Cabin offers a spectacular view of nature. Enjoy watching snowflakes drift lazily through the pines from the couch, three recliners, or deck. Envision yourself in front of the fireplace gazing through the windows, a warm drink in hand. The peaceful ambiance at this cabin offers guests a reason to do absolutely nothing, completely without guilt! Slow down, take a break, unwind, loosen up, chill out, and put your feet up. When you get tired of watching the views, draw the drapes, start a fire in the wood-burning fireplace. And when you are as relaxed as you can be, West Shore is a terrific place from which to do just about everything at Lake Tahoe.

We are two miles from West Shore Café and Inn. We are happy to have guests of the wedding party book with us. We are not licensed for events - parties, bridal showers, weddings, etc.

Enjoy the beauty of North Lake Tahoe’s sunny West Shore in our chalet style cabin. Our cabin is two blocks off of Highway 89 and backs up to open space. It is four hours to San Francisco and two hours to Sacramento. There’s room for two families. The cabin has three bedrooms and a loft so it sleeps eight-ten comfortably. There’s off street parking for three vehicles in the winter. We own the lot next to us and it can be used for parking additional cars and/or a boat in the summer. It has a guest house on the property that is also available for rent (see ad 332392). The guest cabin may be rented by other guests during your stay.

Our 1850 sq. ft. cabin sits on a half-acre lot on a flat road. The cabin has wood and beam ceilings with custom-made doors throughout the house. The living room has a vaulted ceiling with views of the National Forest. Our living room has a couch and three recliners for people who are serious about relaxing. On the opposite wall of the fireplace is an entertainment center with a 60” Smart TV and a DVD player. The center holds books and DVDs. There are a total of four flat screen TV’s, WIFI and a landline phone with unlimited long distance. The living room opens by two sliding doors to the front deck which has a barbecue, chairs & table.

The kitchen is new with stainless steel appliances and granite counters plus all other eating, serving, and preparation items. The dining room is separate and seats ten people. There’s a booster seat for a young child. It also has its own gas heating stove in the dining room – great for drying wet snow apparel. We have two sleds for this cabin and two for the guest cabin.

Sleeping - The master bedroom is upstairs and has a shared bath with the loft. The loft has a daybed with a trundle and the living room has a sofa sleeper. The loft overlooks the living room and is a great place for your children to play games and entertain themselves. All three of the bedrooms have queen beds with quality mattresses. The downstairs bath has a private vanity area from the tub/shower/toilet area. There’s a Pak ’n Play in the closet for your use.

PETS are permitted only with prior approval and payment of pet fee. If you should bring a pet without prior approval, you will forfeit your deposit. We allow one pet of <30 lbs. Pet fee of $15/day. Please do not allow your pet on the furniture as this will result in extra cleaning fees to be taken from your deposit. Dogs must be in a crate when you leave the house. Pets tend to scratch doors if left alone in a strange house.

Spring, Summer & Fall Activities

Looking to escape the heat? Lake Tahoe has you covered. From zip lining through trees (Tahoe Tree Top Adventure Park or Heavenly) to roller skating at 8200 feet (Squaw Valley), and from stargazing to sunset cruises. Bike or drive to some of Tahoe’s most beautiful beaches: Chambers Landing ( 1 mile) for Restaurant Dining, Bar, Beach Access, Pier; Sugar Pine Park /Hellman-Ehrman Mansion (3 miles) with sandy, white beach, Vikingsholm Mansion and Meeks Bay Resort (3 1/2 miles). Meeks Bay has a store, beach chairs, picnic tables, a sandy beach, 2 boat ramps, ski boat rentals, canoe and kayak rentals, paddleboats, and guided fishing excursions. For boaters, we own the lot next door and your boat can be parked on it during your visit. We are also close to the access point to the world famous Rubicon Jeep Trail. Only 2 blocks to the West Shore Biking Path that goes north to Tahoe City and South to Meek’s Bay or Sugar Pine Park. Eagle Rock (3 miles) is one of Lake Tahoe’s most spectacular hiking experiences. Go it on your own or with a guide from Tahoe Rim Trail Association. Surrounding the Lake Tahoe Basin are hundreds of miles of trails ranging from easy to strenuous (a hiking book is in the cabin). You can go mountain biking on the trails that surround the lake. Take a 5 mile Rafting Trip down the Truckee River from Tahoe City ending at the River Ranch Restaurant. Go underground fish viewing at the Taylor Creek Stream Profile Chamber. The Lake of the Sky amphitheater hosts a variety of events. Go horseback riding at Camp Richardson Corral. Have fun scuba diving at Emerald Bay. Heavenly offers summer tubing or a gondola ride. Go golfing at Edgewood Tahoe a course that sits next to the lake. South Shore’s Ski Run Boat Company will take you boating or parasailing.

Winter Activities:

Our cabin is on a flat road for easy access when snowing. We pay for a snow plow for the driveways and provide a shovel for sidewalks. Our house is next to open space (greenbelt) which can be used for sledding, hiking, and snowshoeing. Sugar Pine Park has cross-country skiing and is within walking distance. Homewood Mountain Ski Resort (2 miles) is a great place for children and adults to take lessons. Many savings packages are available. Homewood Ski Resort has the most spectacular views of the lake of any ski resort in the Tahoe basin. Squaw Valley has skiing and ice skating (16 miles) and Alpine Meadows (15 miles) are minutes away.

Hundreds of additional fun activities and places of interest are listed in our Guest Book. PDQ market is close (1/2 mile) by for GREAT sandwiches and last minute pick-ups. There are two supermarkets and lots of shopping & dining in Tahoe City (8 miles). Visit old town Truckee or South Lake Tahoe for unique shopping, dining & entertainment opportunities. See the website on VRBO that show's pictures and info on places that we recommend.

About Kitty Travnikoff

Lloyd is a retired General Contractor. Kitty is a retired primary teacher. We have 3 grown children and 3 grandchildren.

Kitty Travnikoff purchased this cabin in 1984

Why Kitty Travnikoff chose Lake Tahoe West Shore CA

I'm from Wisconsin and like to see snow a few times a year. We used to visit Tahoe before we built our cabin. Lloyd was working on a Safeway when I found our lots. We liked the area because it offered summer and winter sports that we liked. Tahoe is 2 hours away for us so a quick weekend getaway is possible. We like to go sledding, skiing, snowboarding, hiking, bike riding and gambling. Tahoe fit the bill.

What makes this cabin unique

I love the peace and quiet. No immediate neighbors. We own our side of the block and the neighbor across from us owns the whole block and his house faces the other street.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We got married in this house. We like to come back to relive the memories.

Perfect...again

  • 5 of 5

This was our family's second stay at Kitty and Lloyd's chalet. The layout is perfect for the three generations. Very well maintained and stocked.

Great communication. Cozy, super comfortable, and a perfect location.

Will be back for sure.

Fantastic stay

  • 5 of 5

Owners were easy to work with and house and area were perfect for our family. Our dog loved it too! Location was just beautiful next to Greenbelt and we loved walking to sledding hills and playing in snow. It was so quiet and peaceful. Beds were comfortable and kitchen was well stocked. Everything was clean and we appreciated the netflix and great selection of kids books. Only thing that was a minus was the heating system, which was very loud, especially in the back bedroom. But at the same time, not everything can be perfect and i would definitely stay here again as we had a really wonderful time.

Comfortable home away from home

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay in this spacious house at the end of a quiet neighborhood which backs up to a forest. Although we dined at the restaurants around the lake, the kitchen here is well stocked if you want to do your own cooking. Nice touch to provide sugar and creamer for when we made coffee in the mornings. A binder of what to do in the area along with restaurant listings and a great little book of hikes was a nice touch. The WiFi worked fine. Since cell phone coverage isn't good, we appreciated the use of a landline to make calls while at the house.

Our bed was comfortable. There is good lighting in the living room, and comfy blankets on the big chairs were put to use on the chilly mornings.

Very enjoyable!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first time staying in this vacation home and it was perfect! The description of this house is exactly what you get. It was very clean and cozy but plenty of room for my family! Great location! Very quiet street, and my grandson could play and ride his bike out front. Anyone would definitely enjoy this place! Thank you!

Great Rental, Great Owners

  • 5 of 5

Very nice owners let us rent their nice house for a week during Summer. The house, which is at the very end of a sunlit and quiet road, is next to a trail that goes into the National Forest; great for walking dogs, mountain biking, hiking, etc. Parking at the house was very easy and there was plenty of room. Owners were very generous and let us use their undeveloped adjacent lot to park our trailer. Virtually zero car traffic in front of the house, so it was very comfortable letting the preschool aged kids play in the street with balls and bikes. Close enough to the lake, hustle and bustle, and stores to make life fun and easy in the day...but far enough away to have peace and quiet in a forest setting when you're ready to relax. Nice deck with bbq was perfect in the late afternoon and evenings for relaxing and cooking. Owners really care a lot about their guests (e.g. they put out small paper cups at the sinks to just make things easier). For our family, which includes a 4 year old and dog, this is a great fit, and we plan to rent again if possible.

Very nice accomodations

  • 4 of 5

This home was very nice for 4 adults and twin 1 year-olds. We were able to easily block access to the stairs. The twins slept downstairs in their own room, with grandparents nearby. Mom and auntie were able to get a good night's sleep upstairs. We hiked in a nearby park for recreation and enjoyed the antiques and dinner at Rosie's restaurant in Tahoe City. My one suggestion would be to toddler proof the house (no chemicals under the sink in the kitchen, etc.).

Owner's Response: Thanks for that information. If we move the cleaners, the guests will move them back. We will put childproof locks on the cabinets.
