The Aaron Paddack House was originally built in 1820 for the renowned Captain of the Whaleship Diana and his family. Captain Paddack played an important role in the historical story of the Whaleship Essex, and in Nathaniel Philbrick's best-selling book "In the Heart of the Sea" (pg. 189, 203, 263-4, 269. 271-2) We have the original deed from the first sale of the house on July 11, 1820.
