It is truly the very best property in the entire Twin Lakes area. We have some very unique amenities & the best view of all the VRBO listings in Twin Lakes. It is private, yet very easily accessible off Hwy. 82, right on County Road 10.
Easy access from Hwy 24 & 82(Indy Pass) Black top road to driveway. Birdhouses with Mtn Bluebirds and Steller Bluejay residents. 2 varieties of Humming birds 15-20 varieties of other birds including Clark's Nuthatcher, Doves, Red headed Wren, Yellow Warbler and occasional spectacular Western Tanager sighting. Frequent Deer sighting on property as well as early morning red fox. Also Antelope, Elk and Bighorn in immediate area.
Great fishing, hiking, biking, boating and ghost town exploration. Numerous 14ers in the area. Mt Elbert, highest mountain in Colorado as your view, with the trail head about 3-4 miles from the house. If that is not enough or you prefer lounging on the patio with a good book and a glass of wine that's steps away.
Annually a group of family and friends meet in the mountain to climb a 14er. This year we chose the peak La Plata. The mountain trail was 35 minutes from the house so we decided it was a perfect location to stay. We were all pleasantly surprised at the comfortableness and relaxation this house provided. We all had wonderful spacious bedrooms. We enjoyed our coffee at the fire pit, over looking the lake, and in the delightful sun room both mornings. It was nice to be secluded away from other neighbors but yet, be so close to amenities and the lakes. The kitchen was spacious and wonderful for cooking, home cooked meals, with friends. The property is beautiful and the house is beyond cozy. I would highly recommend a mountain adventure with this house in mind.
We had our wedding reception here and everyone absolutely loved it. We didn't have a huge wedding and the total number of guests was in the 30s but it was the perfect sized house for this. Most guests stayed in nearby Twin Lakes Inn, and the wedding party stayed here.
The gazebo was the dance floor and the back porch was where most of the mingling took place. The fire pit was a favorite for people to sit around and to use as a stage for giving speeches. We had a fire in the fire pit and roasted smores almost every night.
The place also has a large kitchen that had plenty of utensils for our purposes -- though we did get rentals for the reception.
I loved the master bedroom and bathroom especially. It has a jacuzzi bathtub and was necessary after long stressful days of setting everything up or after long hikes. It also has a large walk-in shower, separate toilet, and large closet!
The only things that I could think to gripe about would be that the hot tub out in the back was not operational, but that wasn't much of a loss since we had a ton on our schedule anyway (and I could just go into the jacuzzi!). Also, the temperature was pretty warm outside the days we stayed there and we had to keep the blinds/drapes in the south-facing rooms down/closed to keep the temperature in the house reasonable. There is no AC here. That being said, nights in CO are wonderfully cool even in July at this elevation, so we kept plenty of windows open and that kept the temperature inside from getting too high. The other thing I would say is that Google maps does not show this location correctly and many people had a hard time finding it.
My favorite thing was waking up to the sun rising and looking out of the Twin Lakes. You get a great view of them through the trees in the backyard. In the early mornings before the sun rose, we heard coyotes howling. It was all-around an awesome place to spend a few days during our wedding! Thanks so much to Liz and James for letting us stay here!
This home is spectacular! It is really well laid out for large groups (we had 12) with five spacious bedrooms and beautiful common areas with amazing views of Colorado's highest peak, Mount Elbert. The grounds are really well landscaped. The way the property is situated it felt remote and private. In fact, though, it is no more than 30 minutes away from all of the area's many attractions. The house is well appointed and nearly every item one could want in their own home was provided - all one needs bring is clothes and a toothbrush! The owners are happy to answer questions and really responsive, a joy to work with. I can't say enough good things about our vacation rental. I wasn't ready to leave when we did and I'd happily go back tomorrow!
Our family couldn't have chosen a more perfect home ( very clean and tidy) for our get together! We loved the location because not only was it located in a beautiful area but it was on acreage that provided the privacy we wanted. The outdoor areas around this cabin were perfect and provided plenty of space for us. The sleeping areas were perfect for our group of 13. All necessary items were furnished, the owners were fantastic and answered all our many questions almost as soon as we emailed them. The location was close to all the outdoor activities we planned. Thanks for allowing us to use your beautiful home and hopefully we can return for another stay!
That was my husband who said that. Our wedding was "magical!"
Dramatic snowy peaks, vibrant fall colors, beautiful lakes, and a wonderful home. Seven months later and we still cannot believe how wonderful it was to have our wedding at A Wolf Den. We rented out almost every vacation rental home for our out of town guests and this easily had the best view.
There is a beach below the house- and across the street- where we had a beach day with our families the day before the wedding. Paddle boarding, BBQ (bring your own), kayaks, corn hole, fishing, and beautiful hikes all around.
We turned the smaller covered patio into a photobooth. There is a large gazebo in the back which we turned into the dance party at night. We hung bistro lights up the night before and it was the perfect atmosphere for our 100 person wedding. Fear not- there is room! It was wonderful. If you are planning to host your wedding here, I recommend not doing a sit down dinner. I highly doubt there could be enough room to seat all 100- we did seat around 35 for the rehearsal brunch, though, with no problems.
James and Liz even came out for the wedding to help with logistics, etc. They were so helpful the entire time. What a wonderful couple.
Thank you, James and Liz for the most wonderful day we could have ever imagined!! Tim is right- it was truly magical!
