Why David Gale chose Chimacum

Nestled In the hills between the straits of Juan De Fuca and the Hood Canal, Blue Mountain Retreat is the perfect destination for family and friends looking to relax, enjoy beautiful walks and bike rides through scenic country roads. Far enough out of town to escape the busy tourist feel but close enough to enjoy its amenities.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

Located on 20 secluded acres. Trees, open field, a beautiful valley view and a ravine for kids to explore. We bought this land in 1992 because it was on the end of a road with a ravine on one side and a beautiful valley view on the other . We love the privacy and park like setting. Our country home is 6000 sq.ft. of kid fun and adult relaxation. We are excited to share our home and look forward to all the memories we will create here as we come back with our family. With 3 sitting rooms and 3 interactive play rooms we offer both quiet and hours of exploration and creative fun for kids and adults. Come and unleash your kids imagination.

Fun and relaxing vacation for a large group of families

  • 5 of 5

This house is AMAZING for big groups. The kids entertain themselves while the grown ups relax and there is actually space for everyone. The kitchen is fully stocked and easy to cook in, even for a huge group. The place is clean and well maintained. The location is beautiful (and located really near to Finnriver Cidery!). The only improvement they should make is to add window coverings/better coverings in the bedrooms, because it gets really light and wakes kids early, particularly upstairs in the master suite where there are no blinds or curtains. Regardless of the early wake-ups, we will be back next year for sure.

2016 New Year Holiday

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at Blue Mountain Retreat during the NewYear Eve holiday. The place is filled with many fun indoor games and kids are engaged on their own playing variety of games by themselves, while we are having fun playing board games and cooking... Will definitely look for a summer visit to enjoy the outdoors as well.

Exceeded expectations

  • 5 of 5

The house was outstanding! When I told people I was renting a house and inviting 20 people to celebrate my 50th birthday, they thought I was crazy. But this was the best birthday I've ever had. All the beds are comfy, there's so many places for people to gather and to get away. The kitchen is great for working with lots of people and is really well stocked with everything you need. Even our teens loved the block room and the secret passages! Perfect house for multi generations. Two tiny quibbles, if you go in colder weather be aware that the radiant heat takes hours to warm up, so everyone needs sweaters and slippers the first evening. Everyone kept fussing with the thermostat because they were sure the previous person just didn't know what they were doing. But by the morning everything was toasty warm. The other thing to note is that the dishwasher cycle takes hours to run, even the quick wash, so don't use it if you're in a hurry. Great location, beautiful wooded setting, incredible view. We really didn't want to leave and we hope to do it again some day.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review, we are glad you had a great time. The radiant heat floor is one of the things we love most about our home. Normally the heat is always left on so groups should arrive to a very comfortable home. We will be more careful to make sure the heat is set properly before groups arrive. In a month we are also adding a large secondary heat/air conditioning unit that will be able to adjust the temperature quickly in the main living areas. We put a lot of effort into making our home fun and comfortable for all ages and love to hear that it is being enjoyed.

Perfect Family Gathering Place

  • 5 of 5

We could not have stayed at a nicer place to celebrate my fathers 85th birthday celebration. A total of 25 family members flew in from Texas, California, and Illinois and ages ranged from 12 mos. to 62 years old. The play areas were perfect for every age. We hardly saw the children! The house was beautiful, the view to die for, with each room roomy for all to gather. The fire pit was great at night as was the hot tub. Ping pong, volleyball, hiking the property, the time went by too fast. It's been a few months and we all still talk about going back. I usually like to try new places, however, we would all return to this great, private getaway in a heartbeat. A plus: nearby towns of Port Townsend, Sequim, Poulsbo, Hood Canal, and much more.

Beautiful and very kid friendly

  • 5 of 5

This house is beautiful, large and immaculate! We didn't even know where the kids were half the time. They were obsessed with the soft block room and Lego rooms. The grow ups discovered the slide which was a hoot!

The kitchen was well stocked and the owner was fabulous to work with. They even mailed me my sweater which I forgot! Would stay here over and over again!

Wedding Fun

  • 5 of 5

This place was great. We actually held our wedding onsite, but had family/the wedding party stay with us before and after. The playrooms/slides/secret rooms were amazing for adults and kids alike (I actually think the adults may have spent more time in the tunnels than the kids). The owner was very easy to work with and helped make our wedding day great and I would absolutely come back for another event/stay. We did events around the wedding as well including a movie night on the lawn with a big blow up screen we rented, going whale watching and wine/cider tasting so there are great events for the house and fun adventures in the surrounding towns.
