About the property

Private & peaceful yet close to sites and enjoyment of The Big Island of Hawaii!

Once part of the famous Parker Ranch, the green, rolling pastures of 62-acre Rainbow Ranch is the setting for this new three-bedroom, two-bath home. One of only nine houses in the community of West Waikoekoe, the property extends to the rim of Waipio Valley, the boyhood home of King Kamehameha I and a place of unsurpassed splendor. All views from the home are lush and green, with the ocean beyond and majestic Mauna Kea behind. The area still has the paniolo (cowboy country) ambiance with horses, cattle and sheep roaming the pastures nearby. Peaceful and quiet, only the sounds of nature punctuate the silence. Clear nights provide stunning stargazing. Hike or walk right from your doorstep, rent bikes or ride horseback from nearby facilities.

With all this beauty and privacy you are still only a 10-minute drive to the town of Waimea/Kamuela for shopping and dining. A drive east takes you to the charming old sugar-plantation town of Honokaa, along the spectacular Hamakua Coast to historic Hilo and on to Volcano National Park, where Kilauea has been flowing for 30 years.

Drive west a half hour to Kohala Coast beaches, including Hapuna Beach State Park, consistently ranked on international Top Ten lists. Continue on to Kailua-Kona for shopping, dining and nightlife.

The home itself is built for comfort and enjoyment of the locale—which includes rainfall and cool temperatures—with a deluxe Marquis hot tub for therapeutic relaxation on the large wrap-around covered lanai (patio) plus both indoor and outdoor fireplaces. The custom kitchen serves all areas with ease, and the barbecue area takes advantage of the amazing views and brilliant night sky.

The dining table seats six with four barstools at the unique, custom glass-covered “beach-in-a-box” counter for breakfast or overflow. Comfortable seating makes the most of flat-screen TV with DISH, DVD player and WIFI.

The master bedroom features a king-size bed, with a queen in the second bedroom and twin beds in the third to sleep six comfortably. Two full bathrooms complete the accommodations, along with beach chairs and mats, towels, and boogie boards.

Owner lives next door on the adjacent 28 acres and will provide fresh ranch eggs (from Rainbow Ranch), fruit, tea and Kona coffee for your first breakfast, as well as help planning day trips.

About Heidi E Clayton

My name is Heidi Clayton, this is my dog Bert in the picture with me.

I grew up in Santa Barbara, California. My family was in the restaurant business there.

I attended Prescott College in Arizona majoring in Outdoor Education.

I've worked as a veterinarian technician and love animals.

Since 1990 I have been a certified PATH Therapeutic Riding Instructor teaching people with special needs to ride horses.

I moved to the incredible Big Island of Hawaii in 2001.

After buying land, in the gorgeous community of West Waikoekoe, I started developing Rainbow Ranch. We raise, horses, cattle, sheep, chickens and have a huge koi pond.

I am looking forward to sharing this beautiful and special place with others.

Heidi E Clayton purchased this house in 2001

Why Heidi E Clayton chose Kohala Coast

The new home, I just completed in 2014, was built with care and consideration to detail for making it comfortable, warm and hospitable.

It is a lovely home in a spectacular setting.

Sometimes it looks like you are driving into a painting with views of Waipio Valley, waterfalls, Mauna Kea, green rolling hills, forests and views of Maui in the distance.

We are off grid. The electricity for the home is solar power and we use catchment from our wonderful rain water. The photovoltaic system is top of the line and works exceptionally well. It will run anything that is needed for your comfort, including a brand new hot tub. The catchment water goes through filters and a purifying system.

Private and peaceful but also modern and comfortable.

What makes this house unique

I love the plantation style home with a large wrap around lanai so you can relax outside and enjoy the gorgeous views and nature all around.

The home is charming with an indoor and outdoor appeal.

A taste of the good life..

  • 5 of 5

I decided to write my review before leaving the property, so it's all fresh in my mind. I'm writing this sitting on the lanai. This is a place where night is actually dark, except tonight there's a full moon lighting up Mauna Kea to the north. No trade showers this evening, and the sky is fantastically clear. The only sounds around the property are those of the natural sort: the occasional rustle of the breeze through the trees, and all the creatures that only sing in the dark.

This is the sort of place where one can regain a sense of natural rhythm to life. It's easy to wander off to bed early, and wake up with the sun. Those that do can be blessed with a spectacular Kohala sunrise on a cool morning's walk. Sure it rains, just like everywhere else on the greener side of the island, but the rains simply regenerate this little slice of heaven on earth. If one really tires of them, most of the time they can just drive west for a little while. We specifically chose this property in this area to be able to sleep away from bustle with windows open, and we have done so every night.

The home is indeed beautiful. Heidi's touch is noticed throughout. As I told her one day, this property is a perfect example what *can* be done to offer extraordinary comfort completely off-grid. There is quite literally not a single thing I could envision missing from this experience.

Ultimately, I'm sure many of the other 5-star reviews can offer better, more concrete explanations of the home, its surroundings, and the area. My goal here is just to offer snippets of how we've experienced Heidi's Hale as a taste of the good life. If you're willing to slow down a little, breathe a little deeper, and, most importantly, if you're actually willing to relax, then this might be the place for you. It may sound totally goofy or woo-woo, but this property has the ability to change people for the better. It has certainly changed us.

5 star accomodation in the woods

  • 5 of 5

If I have to describe Heidi's house I would day "Perfect". It had all the facilities of a 5 star resort and even more. She thought of every single thing that her guests might need and had it available for them. The location is awesome with green pasture all around and secluded from the town but not too far if you need something. Her horses Ramona and Nene were so friendly and loves her guests like Heidi does. Heidi is an awesome host always available if we need anything. We were a family with very young kids but did not have any trouble here, infact kids loved here. I would definitely recommend Heidi's Hale to families who like outdoors and want to experience the nature and its tranquility.

Lovely and quiet rural setting

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful (too few) days at Heidi's Hale. We especially enjoyed that it was away from everything, very quiet and immersed in nature. We had the chance to meet all the animals in the adjacent pasture and feed the horses lots of carrots. For animal lovers this is a great spot. We walked all over the acreage and up and down the lane - it was a great place to keep up on exercise (and work of vacation treats). Heidi is very sweet and responsive to all our needs and questions. And her chickens were cooperative so we got some fresh eggs.

The house itself is in really great shape and very convenient and comfortable with all conveniences - including a hot tub (not so easy to find in Hawaii at an affordable price). We put a log in the wood stove one night when it was chilly and it was super cozy. Otherwise we were outside sitting on the patio enjoying the sounds of the birds.

Even though it's rural, it's not remote and if the weather was cloudy we only had to drive 5 minutes to find the sun. It's only 15-20 minutes to the beach and equally close the the West or East side of the island.

We enjoyed our stay so much I booked another visit for later this year even before we had left!

Beautiful new home and super private

  • 5 of 5

like living in a brand new home, great beds, open layout, separate full baths, outside jacuzzi, no neighbors to be seen or heard on 34 acres, surrounded by nature and friendly horses, pheasants, sheep. Luckily you can take a trip to the grocery store and stay here for the duration, relaxing and walking the 34 acres in boots provided by Heidi, Heidi is a sweet generous person, but don't miss the 4 wheel drive and horseback trip into the Waipio valley, and Waimea has some fine restaurants, the corner restaurant in Honokaa near the Waipio lookout has a great breakfast. This was our favorite VRBO on the Big Island and the best we can remember anywhere.

Amazingly Beautiful, Peaceful, Fun and Relaxing

  • 5 of 5

Heidi's place was wonderful to come "home" to after day long trips to see the Big Island. Driving down the lane to get there makes you feel like you are entering a magically beautiful place. The views when you arrive are gorgeous. We went for morning walks where we were greeted by horses sheep, lambs, birds--It is simply delightful. The house is roomy and comfortable and the hot tub was perfect. Really nice to have the washer and dryer, beach equipment, and cooler for packing lunches. There is so much to see and do, we went to the volcano, Waipio Valley, Hapuna Beach, Queens Bath, hiking to waterfalls, Botanical Gardens, we saw whales from the coast! It was hard to leave, Heidi made us feel so comfortable and welcome, she is the best. We absolutely loved her place.

cozy. beautiful views. comfortable, peaceful

  • 5 of 5

Our stay here was very enjoyable. The best part about the house is the scenery, which made things feel peaceful. Heidi was very welcoming and made us feel at home. She was incredibly helpful and kind, what a great host! I recommend this place to anyone visiting this area. The house itself was very comfortable and we really enjoyed the hot tub there as well. The house is beautifully built and the bedrooms are all nicely sized and cozy to stay in. It is probably one of the best properties we stayed at out of the four homes we switched throughout our trip in Hawaii. Since this house sits on a vast piece of land, we were able to explore throughout the property, and stargaze at night because of the lack of light pollution. Truly a wonderful stay, you will not be disappointed!
