Overview

About the property

Private & peaceful yet close to sites and enjoyment of The Big Island of Hawaii!

Once part of the famous Parker Ranch, the green, rolling pastures of 62-acre Rainbow Ranch is the setting for this new three-bedroom, two-bath home. One of only nine houses in the community of West Waikoekoe, the property extends to the rim of Waipio Valley, the boyhood home of King Kamehameha I and a place of unsurpassed splendor. All views from the home are lush and green, with the ocean beyond and majestic Mauna Kea behind. The area still has the paniolo (cowboy country) ambiance with horses, cattle and sheep roaming the pastures nearby. Peaceful and quiet, only the sounds of nature punctuate the silence. Clear nights provide stunning stargazing. Hike or walk right from your doorstep, rent bikes or ride horseback from nearby facilities.

With all this beauty and privacy you are still only a 10-minute drive to the town of Waimea/Kamuela for shopping and dining. A drive east takes you to the charming old sugar-plantation town of Honokaa, along the spectacular Hamakua Coast to historic Hilo and on to Volcano National Park, where Kilauea has been flowing for 30 years.

Drive west a half hour to Kohala Coast beaches, including Hapuna Beach State Park, consistently ranked on international Top Ten lists. Continue on to Kailua-Kona for shopping, dining and nightlife.

The home itself is built for comfort and enjoyment of the locale—which includes rainfall and cool temperatures—with a deluxe Marquis hot tub for therapeutic relaxation on the large wrap-around covered lanai (patio) plus both indoor and outdoor fireplaces. The custom kitchen serves all areas with ease, and the barbecue area takes advantage of the amazing views and brilliant night sky.

The dining table seats six with four barstools at the unique, custom glass-covered “beach-in-a-box” counter for breakfast or overflow. Comfortable seating makes the most of flat-screen TV with DISH, DVD player and WIFI.

The master bedroom features a king-size bed, with a queen in the second bedroom and twin beds in the third to sleep six comfortably. Two full bathrooms complete the accommodations, along with beach chairs and mats, towels, and boogie boards.

Owner lives next door on the adjacent 28 acres and will provide fresh ranch eggs (from Rainbow Ranch), fruit, tea and Kona coffee for your first breakfast, as well as help planning day trips.

About Heidi E Clayton

Aloha,

My name is Heidi Clayton, this is my dog Bert in the picture with me.

I grew up in Santa Barbara, California. My family was in the restaurant business there.

I attended Prescott College in Arizona majoring in Outdoor Education.

I've worked as a veterinarian technician and love animals.

Since 1990 I have been a certified PATH Therapeutic Riding Instructor teaching people with special needs to ride horses.

I moved to the incredible Big Island of Hawaii in 2001.

After buying land, in the gorgeous community of West Waikoekoe, I started developing Rainbow Ranch. We raise, horses, cattle, sheep, chickens and have a huge koi pond.

I am looking forward to sharing this beautiful and special place with others.

Heidi E Clayton purchased this house in 2001

Why Heidi E Clayton chose Hawaii

The new home, I just completed in 2014, was built with care and consideration to detail for making it comfortable, warm and hospitable.

It is a lovely home in a spectacular setting.

Sometimes it looks like you are driving into a painting with views of Waipio Valley, waterfalls, Mauna Kea, green rolling hills, forests and views of Maui in the distance.

We are off grid. The electricity for the home is solar power and we use catchment from our wonderful rain water. The photovoltaic system is top of the line and works exceptionally well. It will run anything that is needed for your comfort, including a brand new hot tub. The catchment water goes through filters and a purifying system.

Private and peaceful but also modern and comfortable.

What makes this house unique

I love the plantation style home with a large wrap around lanai so you can relax outside and enjoy the gorgeous views and nature all around.

The home is charming with an indoor and outdoor appeal.

Gorgeous grounds and views of Hawaiian ranch country.

  • 5 of 5

You feel like you are away from it all, but are close to great restaurants, sights and activities. We loved waking up to spectacular views of Mauna Kea and ranch land, and we loved the evenings in the hot tub. The star gazing is amazing. Super clean house with many amenities, and Heidi is a warm, responsive host. We loved staying here.

Amazing!

  • 5 of 5

The property is beautiful beyond words. Heidi is the perfect hostess as she thought of stocking the place with everything you might need. Also, and truly important to us, was how immaculate she had the place cleaned. We can't wait to return! Thank you Heidi!!

A beautiful, peaceful place to stay

  • 5 of 5

This is a difficult review to write, because Heidi's place is just amazing! The benefit that stands out most to me was how secluded we felt compared to the other places that we stayed around the island. There are great views of rolling green hills in all directions. We just loved it! Although the house is secluded and very quiet, it was only a few minutes to get to good restaurants in Waimea, pick up something at the grocery store, or get to the incredibly beautiful view of the Waipi'o valley. The house itself has everything -- much more than we possibly needed for the couple of nights that we spent there. If you're looking to see the quieter and more rural side of Hawaii, this is definitely a great place to stay.

Relaxation from the start

  • 5 of 5

From the moment you turn off of the main road you feel a million miles away. The drive in through the tree lined lane sets the tone. Heidi's Hale is the ultimate in "open air" living, or close the windows and doors and just chill in the spacious living area. A soak in the hot tub, whilst trying to count the stars was the highlight of our stay. Heidi is a fantastic host and willing to help at a moments notice. Location is prime for exploring that area of big island. If you stay here, be sure to say hello and give a pet to the horses from us!

Peaceful, beautiful Waimea

  • 5 of 5

A truly beautiful place to call home, if only for a few days. Convenient to Waimea town with its wonderful eateries (best pizza and burgers I've had in a long time, and I eat a lot of pizza), yet tucked away in a gated community with multi-acre properties of rolling hills, cattle, sheep, horses, and cool and crisp mornings and evenings. The home had everything our family with two young keiki could want: fire pit for smores, jacuzzi tub, washer and dryer, and lots of outdoors to explore. Home was clean, neat, and well maintained. We did need to buy our own dishwashing liquid, laundry detergent, and shampoo and conditioner, but felt like a small price to pay for this wonderful stay. Heidi, the owner, was very nice and friendly, and stopped by on our last day to talk story, which was great because then we could semi-interrogate her about the history of this beautiful place, which was former Parker Ranch land and before that, the storied Mahiki forest. We would definitely stay here again. Ke aloha nō e ka ua Kīpuʻupuʻu o Waimea!

Owner's Response: Mahalo Keiko for your review. I am glad you had such a good time at my hale and enjoyed all the great food in Waimea! I apologize for not suppling the soaps. The dish soap dispenser is on the sink. Thank you for reminding me to leave a note for this. I will make sure everything is stocked next time. With much aloha, Heidi

A taste of the good life..

  • 5 of 5

I decided to write my review before leaving the property, so it's all fresh in my mind. I'm writing this sitting on the lanai. This is a place where night is actually dark, except tonight there's a full moon lighting up Mauna Kea to the north. No trade showers this evening, and the sky is fantastically clear. The only sounds around the property are those of the natural sort: the occasional rustle of the breeze through the trees, and all the creatures that only sing in the dark.

This is the sort of place where one can regain a sense of natural rhythm to life. It's easy to wander off to bed early, and wake up with the sun. Those that do can be blessed with a spectacular Kohala sunrise on a cool morning's walk. Sure it rains, just like everywhere else on the greener side of the island, but the rains simply regenerate this little slice of heaven on earth. If one really tires of them, most of the time they can just drive west for a little while. We specifically chose this property in this area to be able to sleep away from bustle with windows open, and we have done so every night.

The home is indeed beautiful. Heidi's touch is noticed throughout. As I told her one day, this property is a perfect example what *can* be done to offer extraordinary comfort completely off-grid. There is quite literally not a single thing I could envision missing from this experience.

Ultimately, I'm sure many of the other 5-star reviews can offer better, more concrete explanations of the home, its surroundings, and the area. My goal here is just to offer snippets of how we've experienced Heidi's Hale as a taste of the good life. If you're willing to slow down a little, breathe a little deeper, and, most importantly, if you're actually willing to relax, then this might be the place for you. It may sound totally goofy or woo-woo, but this property has the ability to change people for the better. It has certainly changed us.
