Relax on the sofa and watch a movie or enjoy the breezes on the lanai with a refreshing drink. The choices are yours.
Custom wainscoting and linen-look hand-painted walls set off the new engineered wood flooring and accent rugs. New high-quality furnishings complement the artwork and decorative touches that were carefully selected to sooth and comfort the weary traveler. The sounds of the ocean will soothe you to sleep and prepare you for the following day as you slumber on the pillows. Wake up to an ocean view from the ocean-side bedroom!
Explore the farmer's market? Tour the botanical gardens? Perhaps the astronomical observatories on Mauna Kea are more to your liking. Or just play in the waves at Carlsmith Beach Park next door? There are so many possibilities that you can't possibly explore them all on one trip. Use the free high-speed wireless Internet to send photos to family and friends back home.
Swimming and snorkeling are just steps away. You have a choice of the on-site swimming pool or take a short walk to Carlsmith Park next door for a dip in the ocean. The lagoons create calm swimming areas and provide protection from the surf. The 4-mile stretch of different swimming coves in this area (called Keaukaha) is a wonderful location to introduce children and newcomers to the ocean. Keep an eye out for our local Hawaiian monk seal 'mama' and her children who sometimes pop up on shore in this neighborhood. Don't disturb them as they are very endangered. Even if they are not in the area, there is a great variety of ocean life to see and enjoy.
The Mauna Loa Shores building's amenities include laundry facilities on every floor and a swimming pool with surrounding patio area equipped with many lounge chairs. There are numerous beach parks stretching for several miles along Kalanianaole Ave. The Hilo Bayfront district and many other Hilo sights and activities are within a 10 minute drive. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is about 45 minutes from Mauna Loa Shores.
We loved this condo!! The location was super cool.... we had to cut our strip short after only 49 hrs due to a family emergency but would definitely stay again!!!
Everything was as shown in the photos. Newer, renovated condo with functional comfortable furniture. Luggage rack in each bedroom, along with an extra chair in each bedroom for actual travelers who use hangers (a lot provided) and treat their luggage like a chest of drawers. Extra pillows + cases. Enough room in the bedrooms for two adults to still be comfortable. Ceiling fans, and stand-fans in case the trade winds fail. Lanai as pictured too! Nice patio furniture with a pleasant view. One full bathroom, a little cramped but more than just "ok",including a nice handheld shower option. Nice, new, dishware, flatware, pots and an array of lidded containers. The coffee machine is easy to use, and has the grind-a-cup option which we loved. After all- it's Hawaii, we're coffee snobs, and Hilo side coffee is awesome! Housekeeping did a wonderful job and left us enough towels, toiletpaper, papertowels, dish soap ,kitchen sponges and even bars of soap. It's easier to clean up after yourself when the basics are provided. We stayed for 5+nights, and having something as simple as salt and pepper provided was thoughtful and appreciated. When the description says "next to Carlsmith beach" that's exactly where it was. We took our towels, left our key in the "lockbox" and walked next door. Fabulous swimming, with a series of lagoons made it very kid friendly, and very senior friendly. Big Island tip: bring or buy beach shoes! Flip flops aren't good enough to deal with the volcanic rock. The complex has a pool as well, but we didn't use it. Building security seemed pretty good, and the complex has a lot of people who live there, long term, who are friendly and watch out for each other. Because the beach really is next door, the assigned free parking space is necessary. Beach parkers fill up the beach lot and most of the street for a good way down. We had a little problem with the patio slider (a wheel came off the track) and it was fixed the same day (John called, came, fixed like magic!). Mahalo and Aloha.
