About the property

Studio with bay windows, romantic love nest for two

The Shack at Lis Sur Mer is a one room open plan studio. You'll have your own full mini-kitchen with a microwave, toaster oven, 1/2 fridge, electric 4-burner range top, and a coffee pot. Your double bed and couch are surrounded by mesmerizing walls of windows overlooking the bay.

Other indoor amenities include wi-fi, air conditioning, stereo, DVD/CD player, phone for local calls, an indoor shower, toilet and sink in the bathroom.

The outdoor patio becomes part of the living area of the cottage featuring a seating area, picnic table and outdoor charcoal grill.

The Shack is surrounded by pines with a great outdoor shower facing the bay. It is located back about 35 feet from the dune. There is a seating area at the very top of the dune in front of the cottage.

You'll have access to Lis Sur Mer's private beach just seconds from The Shack, shared only with guests of the other two cottages.

Truro is a great small town surrounded by the Cape Cod National Seashore, freshwater ponds, hiking trails, and great restaurants. It's just a 15-minute drive to downtown Provincetown where you'll find nightlife, galleries, theater, and whale watching.

About Lis Sur Mer

Your host is an entrepreneur in the arts who has spent the last 40 years traveling internationally for business. While his stateside base is most often New York City, he has taken every opportunity in his travels to seek refuge in quaint European villages. His appreciation of these historic havens was a great part of the inspiration for Lis Sur Mer.

Why Lis Sur Mer chose Cape Cod

Lis Sur Mer was originally an exclusive family compound and retreat until 15 years ago when he began opening it up to visitors. With Lis Sur Mer he has created a storybook compound renowned for its privacy, romance and renewal. Built from the fruits of the sea and recycled building of past centuries, inspired in part by the  concept of the famous artist dune shacks of Provincetown, the aesthetic is a French fishing village  mated with Old Cape Cod. Visiting Lis Sur Mer is an adventure in escaping modern frenzy and McMansions, getting back to the basic joy of natural beauty with extraordinary gardens, awe at every vista, and total cultural refuge. At the same time high speed internet and HD TV quietly co-exist. There is no place on Cape Cod like Lis Sur Mer. The word most often used to describe Lis Sur Mer is “magical” … Bring your inner artist.

Location, location

  • 5 of 5

Such a beautiful and secluded location. Steps away from your own private beach. Yet a 15 minute drive to Provincetown. Really the best of both worlds.

Truth be told the Shack is small. Really just one large room. As our weather was perfect we didn't mind as we were outdoors most of the time. But something to keep in mind.

Logistically everything ran like clockwork. Peter is extremely responsive. The grounds are very well kept. Everything very clean. Beach chairs and a beach bag are provided.

No complaints and we would certainly return.

Quaint, relaxing and wonderful.

  • 5 of 5

The perfect getaway. Very secluded and quaint. Perfect amenities. It's what a vacation should be. We enjoyed coffee every morning and a before dinner drink every night in the chairs over looking the beach. Breakfasts on the deck every morning, followed by either a long walk on the beach or an area hike ( use all trails app) , the sights were beautiful! The Shack was a perfect , relaxing experience. Definitely would recommend to anyone!

A perfect getaway

  • 5 of 5

The Artist's Shack was the perfect place to celebrate our honeymoon. It was cozy and rustic but had all the amenities you need, including excellent wifi and a fully functioning kitchen. The outdoor shower was private and overlooked the bay through the brush. It was wonderful being surrounded by nature with visits from a variety of birds including cardinals and hummingbirds, chipmunks, squirrels, and while at the bay--seals! There was a house being built next door (through the woods a bit) so there was a little construction noise but nothing too bad and it looks like they were almost finished. I definitely recommend visiting the Artist's Shack for a lovely retreat.

Tranquil and scenic

  • 5 of 5

Very private and serene setting, lovely views, charming cottage efficiently set up for such a snug space. Even the luxurious towels were a nice surprise! We were out and about most of the time, so we didn't use the kitchen area much, but it certainly seemed well-equipped. We prefer the off-(off-)season, so we were thrilled to find this year-round hideaway. Thank you, Peter!

Perfect Winter Getaway

  • 5 of 5

This was our second time at Lis Sur Mer, and our first in The Shack. Some of our friends expressed surprise that we would want to go to the beach in the winter, but it's a really beautiful place at that time, and Lis Sur Mer is very affordable that time of year, too. Frankly, I'm almost reluctant to spread the word because I want it remain our "secret" and unchanged place, but on the other hand, I wish them all success and want it to be around for a long time for other like-minded folks to enjoy. Mostly we enjoyed the beauty, solitude and tranquility. Everything we needed was right in our cozy little house with the beautiful view. We never ate a meal out (though we intended to), but just cooked at home. We slept, read, watched movies, walked on the beach, talked, made great food, actually enjoyed tidying up our little space, and then did it all over again. What I like best is the bank of windows below the bed. Each night we'd open the curtains as wide as possible just to watch the sky and the weather, whatever it was, and wake up to that sight. When the wind blew wildly, we just slid a little further down under the covers and watched. I could easily have stayed much longer, and actually cried when we left.

Before I run out of room, I also want to put in a plug for the National Seashore (what a treasure! So thankful to the people who had the foresight to preserve that unique natural wonder) and the warm, thoughtful, and responsive people who own, manage and care for Lis Sur Mer. I feel like they are long-time friends!

A treasured & romantic getaway

  • 5 of 5

The SHACK is a misnomer. Yes, this is rustic and small, but the place is creative, fun and romantic (& there is wifi, if you really need it). It's hard to find a "true getaway" these days, but this is it! The trees, sunlight and sound of the waves are beautiful and so soothing. We can't wait to go back! This is a little bit of heaven tucked away on a gorgeous bluff in Truro. Peter has three magical properties. They are all clean, well-kept and unique. Check out all three at Lissurmer, but this is our favorite. The location is convenient to everything, but why leave? Peace& quiet ~ magical birds chirping, private beach, stunning setting~ and a wonderful outdoor shower!
