About Achim Fehlker
Mila and I live in San Francisco with our dog Che. We have been in the San Francisco Bay Area for 20 years and we absolutely love it, in large part because of our vacation home in the Russian River Valley.
Achim Fehlker purchased this House in 2012
Why Achim Fehlker chose Guerneville
We had been visiting the Russian River Valley and Guerneville for many years prior to buying this vacation home and we fell in love with it. The weather, the proximity to river beaches to swim, sun tan, and relax. The people in this area who are down to earth and love this place as much as we do. When first moving to the Bay Area, we used to go to Napa Valley more, but soon after started to prefer the unique and additional amazing attractions of the Russian River Valley: the redwoods, the rolling hills and vineyards, the proximity to the ocean, and the variability of climates, depending on how far you are from the ocean. That is why we ended up buying a vacation home there. I am an avid wine collector and still co-own a wine bar. The wineries and wines they produce in the Russian River Valley are amazing! We like Williams-Selyem, Rochioli, and Lynmar Winery in particular. We fell in love with this property as soon as we saw it, largely due to the amazing and private backyard, the 2 cabins in addition to the main house, its proximity to the beach, and tranquility of the neighborhood. Yet the restaurants and shopping of Guerneville is only a 5-minute drive away. You really get the best of both worlds!

Perfect space for gathering of friends.
We had a group of 10, including a few kids, and the Outside Inn was a great space to spend a few days together. The river is close by and we mostly had it to ourselves which was a bonus. The house itself was great and and we were able to spread out using both floor and the cottages. The main living space on the top floor isn't huge but with the outside space it was plenty. The outside space was perfect for our group since it was contained, flat and grassy, fun for kids and dogs and adults to play (though a couple of outside heaters on the deck would be an added bonus!). The location was central to town, the river and the redwoods. We had a great stay and would definitely come back.
A Nice Weekend Away
The kitchen had all the equipment we needed for big, group meals, and the amenities (hot tub! fireplaces!) were great. Close to hiking, a grocery store, and a cute downtown.
To explain the rooms - there’s two queen bedrooms upstairs, a queen bedroom downstairs, a full bed tucked in a cozy corner of the downstairs living room, and a small cabin with a full bed. There’s a Jack and Jill bathroom upstairs between the bedrooms, and a bathroom downstairs off the living room.
This is a sweet vacation home in a quiet neighborhood tucked out of the main traffic, but close to town for shopping and nearby Armstrong Woods. We loved having access to the river but it wasn't exactly beach weather in February! The house was outfitted with several heat sources to stay warm and very comfy beds & blankets. The upstairs and backyard provided good hangout areas for our group (5 adults + 2 kids). The 2 bedrooms upstairs are right off the shared living spaces and share a bathroom, so are not great for privacy, but the downstairs "garden-level unit" and detached cabin were good spots for naps and sleeping late. There are a good amount of stairs to manage all over the property which may be hard for those with mobility issues, but our group of age 2-70 very much enjoyed our stay. We would definitely go back!
This is a beautiful property, and was perfect for our family celebration. Given the wintry weather, we enjoyed the hot tub and fireplaces, and next time we'll definitely try to come for some kayak time. Thank you!
We comfortably slept 10 in this cute spot. Great yard, kitchen, and hot tub.
Lovely, and family-friendly.
We had a such a nice time! We had three couples and three children staying over a long weekend, and the dining room table expanded to seat all nine of us, which was great. The downstairs living area became "craft and puzzle central" for the little ones, and the hammock and hula hoops were another big draw. We had one outing to the Armstrong Woods, and one to the beach - even in November they were great places to explore, though we would love to come back in the summer to take advantage of the kayaking on the Russian River. Be aware that the two levels are completely separate, you can only access the lower level by going outside. This was not really a big issue with the way our party split up sleeping space, but baby monitors might be a good idea if you want to have little ones sleeping downstairs while grown-ups talk upstairs. The little sleeping cabin worked well, too, even though there is no toilet, just a sink in there (it is just a short run to the house for full bathroom access). Overall, it was a great space, and a wonderful time reconnecting with family.
Situated directly across from Drake's Beach, you’ll find a nicely laid-back sunning & swimming spot along the Russian River. Beach can be reached via a public access path off Northern (a 2 min walk). Super-easy access to the very finest Russian River Valley wineries + a 5-minute ride to shopping, amazing restaurants and bars in Guerneville - Don't forget Armstrong Woods State Park and the very majestic Sonoma Coast!
