I have been on Oahu for almost 30 years. I finally ended up on the Windward side of the island and if you have to be stuck in one place forever, this is it.
Why does President Obama vacation here? Because he knows where to go to relax. it's Kailua
you are close to the beaches for a quick swim, paddle or dive and close to the mountains for a short or long hike to Hawaii's beautiful waterfalls.
This is an excellent place to stay on the windward side of Oahu. The owner is extremely accommodating and the room is excellent.
Loved that it was so close to a lot of good restaurants. Also, only about 20 mins. from Waikiki. Wished there was a view but not there during the day anyways.
My husband and I just returned home after renting Lanikai. This is a great suite for a couple in a beautiful hilltop neighborhood in Kailua, Oahu. The photos do not do it justice as the suite is nicely furnished and decorated. It was spotless when we arrived. There is a large mirrored closet with shelving and drawers for all of your belongings. Table and chairs are there for dining in. Plates, cups, glasses and silverware were provided as well as the larger dorm-size refrigerator and microwave, and a wonderful Keurig coffee maker with coffee and sweeteners. Paper products including paper towels, napkins and paper plates also were found in the kitchen station. The bath is huge and has a nice shower. We usually relied on island breeze and were comfortable, but there is an air conditioner if needed. Best of all, in the bathroom are a washer and dryer so you can pack extra light on your trip. A bookshelf is filled with local area info books as well as fiction. The wireless internet was a plus.
The suite is located down lighted outside steps through a gorgeous garden. We are in our early 60's and very active so access for us was not a problem. Parking is always available along the street. The suite is located about two miles from Kailua Town and is easy with GPS to find wherever you want to go. There is a nearby shopping center with grocery and lots of restaurants.
With a rental car connections to major roadways to travel to Kailua Town, Kailua Beach Park, The North Shore, Polynesian Cultural Center, Byodo In Temple, Pearl Harbor, Honolulu and military bases is an easy task. The beaches on the North Shore are breathtaking and there are many oceanfront parks with restrooms so you can spend the day and enjoy the views and get some sun.
We enjoyed all of the places above as well as many restaurants in the area. A few of our favorites are Baci Bistro, Aloha Salads, Formmagio Grill, Haleiwa Joe's (a must on a clear day as it is hilltop in Kanehoe with outdoor seating with an awesome view...and go early), Tokoname for sushi and sake, as well as the food trucks on the North Shore.
We would recommend Lanikai suite and already have recommended it to our friends and family. We never met the owner, Chris, but kept in contact with him via email and talked with him on the phone. He told us to call him with any concerns. There are kids and dogs next door that play outside, but we love kids and dogs. All in all it was a perfect fit for us.
The studio was exactly as described in the photos and write-up. It was small, but clean and comfortable and in a nice neighborhood. Owner was very pleasant, offered excellent recommendations for dining and routes to avoid. The location provides easy access to any part of the island, but the best beaches are right there in Kailua. We would recommend this place/location to anyone who wants to avoid the noise, traffic and expense of Honolulu.
My husband and I stayed in this Kailua room for six nights during our vacation at Oahu. We really enjoyed staying in a such peaceful and safe neighborhood (we are not city person, so avoided Waikiki area). The neighborhood actually has great view of the valley. The setup of the room is very convenient, especially the washer and dryer, coffee machine.
The location is pretty convenient with 5 mins drive to Safeway and really good restaurants. It's also convenient to drive to other parts of the island.
Last but not least, parking is free and easy in front of the house.
We highly recommend this room if you want to avoid traffic and expensive hotel rooms in Waikiki.
Small but for a couple it was just what we needed, we were only there to sleep. Great to have the washing machine and dryer & beach towels. We had a hire car and we never had a problem with parking at night. There were plenty of pamphlets/maps to help you get around Oahu. Only negatives we had was it did get hot in there but there is a ceiling fan and A/C (but we never used the A/C) The neighbours can be a bit loud (kids and dog with swimming pool) early in the morning. Not far from the beautiful kailua and lanikai beach. We never got to meet the owner Chris personally however he kept in contact via email it wasn't a problem. Great wifi. thank you we enjoyed our stay.
Safeway and Restaurants are close by. Try the Food Company or the Shack. We also have great Thai massage therapist, acupuncture, chiropractor in Kailua.
