About Bruce & Luba Martens
We are a couple living on Salt Spring Island for about 10 years and loving it. Last year, we have decided to become self-sufficient and planted an orchard with fig, pear and apple trees as well as grapes and blueberries. Although we both grew up in the big cities, we enjoy the country life style and comfort of our home with lovely two cats, Mister and Lizka.
Why Bruce & Luba Martens chose Salt Spring Island
Our property is a 3 minute drive to Ganges yet it is away from the main road in a peaceful setting. The herb garden outside of the suite offers our guests fresh ingredients for their culinary needs. If you have an eye for detail, you will notice a tasteful touch in the interior design of the suite done by Bruce . We value the privacy of our guests by having their own entrance, an outside picnic area with the barbecue and their own driveway.
What makes this Apartment unique
One of the many aspects that drew us to this property, is the 90 million year old conglomerate that was once an under ocean landslide. The entire acre is seated firmly on the rock featuring fascinating encapsulated clasts of quartz and granite. This background is constantly inspiring the creativity in us manifesting in continuous evolution of additional adornments via mosaics, woodwork and landscape ideas.

Quiet, Private, and Perfect
We absolutely loved this accommodation. It was exactly as advertised. We appreciated the craftsmanship in the details, like the doors, because we, too, have renovated and understand the work involved. I loved having my morning coffee with the view of the garden in front of the house. The hummingbirds kept us entertained. It was easy to cook great meals in this kitchen, and the bar-be-que was a plus. Thank you Bruce and Luba for your hospitality.
Really lovely host & property. Loved the solitude & comfort.
Thank you Luba!
A spacious, clean, and well-appointed suite.
Gorgeous woodwork both inside and out, wonderful hosts, and lovely garden view with a bit of the ocean in the background. A perfectly located spot for day trips. We had a fabulous girls’ getaway.
Great location, beautiful unit
Bruce and Luba's place was amazing! Big, clean, great layout, fully stocked kitchen. The house is just a few minutes drive from the waterfront and downtown. We loved every minute!
Luba and Bruce are wonderful hosts and the property is beautiful. It is well furnished and fully equipped.
We enjoyed swimming at St. Mary's lake and Cusheon lake. Our kids (age 9 and 11) loved Salt Spring Island and the fact that they could sleep in their own beds, one in the second bedroom and the other on the pullout bed in the living room.
The location is fairly close to Ganges which meant a short drive or a downhill walk or perhaps bike ride (the ride back up would be a challenging workout) for groceries and to restaurants.
We went to the Tree house restaurant twice for dinner, enjoyed lunch at Barb's Buns and had ice cream at Glad's almost every evening. Highly recommend this VRBO and would definitely return!
A lovely space to come "home" to......
This VRBO is clean, spacious and has a very warm feel to it. The owners have done a wonderful job decorating the interior making it an inviting place to stay. Our host was gracious and friendly. When we return to Salt Spring we know where we will stay - right here!
