About Bruce & Luba Martens

We are a couple living on Salt Spring Island for about 10 years and loving it. Last year, we have decided to become self-sufficient and planted an orchard with fig, pear and apple trees as well as grapes and blueberries. Although we both grew up in the big cities, we enjoy the country life style and comfort of our home with lovely two cats, Mister and Lizka.

Why Bruce & Luba Martens chose British Columbia

Our property is a 3 minute drive to Ganges yet it is away from the main road in a peaceful setting. The herb garden outside of the suite offers our guests fresh ingredients for their culinary needs. If you have an eye for detail, you will notice a tasteful touch in the interior design of the suite done by Bruce . We value the privacy of our guests by having their own entrance, an outside picnic area with the barbecue and their own driveway.

What makes this apartment unique

One of the many aspects that drew us to this property, is the 90 million year old conglomerate that was once an under ocean landslide. The entire acre is seated firmly on the rock featuring fascinating encapsulated clasts of quartz and granite. This background is constantly inspiring the creativity in us manifesting in continuous evolution of additional adornments via mosaics, woodwork and landscape ideas.

Lovely 2 bedroom suite on Salt Spring Island!

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely 2 night stay in this vacation property and concur with the other positive reviews posted. It is our pleasure to highly recommend this property. Their listing is as the owners have described. Bruce and Luba are friendly, helpful VRBO hosts. We are looking forward to another stay in the future at this excellent "home away from home".

lovely apartment

  • 5 of 5

Newly built or renovated apartment, 2 bedrooms with queen sized beds, full sized kitchen, living room dining room combo and a huge bathroom. It was very quiet, and had a wonderful feel. We loved it, and would unhesitatingly recommend it.

Great second home for a stay on Salt Spring

  • 5 of 5

We felt very at home during our 16-day stay on Salt Spring. The owners were accessible and helpful where needed, checking in with us just enough to feel taken care of but giving us lots of space. The place itself is great - everything feels new and clean, the cable TV was nice, and the internet was reliable. For those not familiar with the island, their house is also very central. A <5 minute drive to town, and several good trails and parks are not far away.

One word of notice (though not a complaint) is that for any ambitious cooks out there, the kitchen is not exactly well-equipped. Essential cooking items are there (2 small pots, frying pans etc.) but not much beyond the basics. Also, don't expect to find any edibles in the fridge/shelves upon your arrival. There was a bit of cooking oil, but things like condiments, which are sometimes left in the fridge in other VRBOs, were not there. Again, not a complaint, but hopefully a useful tidbit as travellers pack their bags!

We could not recommend the place higher!

Very clean and comfortable suite, perfect for four.

  • 4 of 5

The property is as advertised and the hosts, Bruce and Luba, are very nice and accommodating. The TV controls were awkward and the kitchen frying pans could use replacement, but otherwise an excellent venue and we would recommend it to our friends.

Owner's Response: We agree about the frying pans needing a replacement. Going shopping this week. We are glad you enjoyed the suite.

A very tranquil, scenic, roomy and comfortable guest home!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a week and a wee bit more of very relaxing days and evenings in this very well furnished and tastefully decorated home. The suite more than met our expectations with things provided just as advertised. Everything was ship shape and clean as could be. No difficulty finding all we needed to feel right at home and the owner made himself at our service although not at all intrusive. The excellent woodwork throughout was a real treat to enjoy and knowing it was the result of the owner 's craftsmanship made us feel like we were in good hands. Also you could tell right away that the surrounding environment was important. Recycling, composting and care of property are priorities. Service was excellent but not " in your face ". I will be telling my friends about how much we enjoyed our time there and suggest they go also. We took most of our meals at the home although there are many good places nearby. The early morning view from the living room was stunning. Looking forward to our return.
