About Lori Breen
Your hosts are Kevin and Lori Breen, their daughter Lark, and Australian Shepherd Arlo. They chose this house because of the ocean view and dog-friendly (leash) beach access! Having recently purchased and furnished Holiday House, they realize the limits of their "free" time to enjoy it, and are opening it to others who share their ideas of a great place to recreate and relax. Kevin is a Golf Course Superintendent, Lori is a mobile Notary/Signing Agent, Lark is a college student, and Arlo is the chaser of geese at Kevin's course. All four have different ideas of a perfect Holiday day, but sunset on the deck can't be beat.
Lori Breen purchased this House in 2015
Why Lori Breen chose La Selva Beach
It starts with the view and ends with the view, but the other factors were the peaceful and idyllic little neighborhood, the beautiful heather fields to the east, the pastoral few minutes on San Andreas Road through the eucalyptus groves, strawberry fields, and peeks of the ocean as you drive in from Highway 1. It is convenient to all that Santa Cruz offers without being near loud bars, restaurants, or college students...and Monterey has a different collection of draws: golf, the world famous aquarium, galleries and shops, 17 mile drive. But the best places we have found to enjoy are right in Aptos and Rio del Mar: Deluxe Foods, great BBQ, awesome breakfast joints, and lots of good vibes.
What makes this House unique
Surfers! Walk about 250 yards to Manresa State Beach. 20 min or less to all the other great breaks in Santa Cruz County. The beach is public access for 11 miles...lots of beach combing, kite flying, surf casting, boogie boarding, beach bonfires, whatever you like! Only 15 minutes from all the draws of Santa Cruz and Capitola: Beach Boardwalk, Downtown Santa Cruz, Natural Bridges Monarch Walk, Pasatiempo for golf, Forest of the Nicene Marks in Aptos for destination mountain biking. If you travel south, just 20-30 minutes away is Elkhorn Slough for wildlife and kayaking, 15 min further to Monterey and the world renowned aquarium, famous golf courses (Pebble Beach, Poppy Hill, Spyglass)
We loved the location of this bright and cheery beach home. It provided easy access to Moss Beach or southern excursions. Capitola was just a couple miles away. The ocean view off the back balcony was soothing as was falling asleep to the sounds of waves crashing on the beach. This charming home is fully furnished with all the amenities and provided a sweet retreat for our family. Thank you!
Can't wait to come back
Don't worry about the wrecked stairs to the beach. The properties on Oceanview sometimes have their steps unlocked and there is easy access from the State beach 300 steps down the highway. The sunsets are beautiful from the deck, the frig has a great ice maker and the kitchen is well stocked with condiments. Lori is very responsive. The beach is special ...isolated and beautiful. Our dogs felt very at home too.
Perfect for our needs
This house is just as it looks, beds were very comfortable living room area, dining and kitchen open and the back deck is a nook from heaven. The home is stocked with many amenities that sometimes you forget... for me I couldn't find my contact solution the first evening, there was some there. We wiled away a few hours on the deck our first late afternoon just basking in the sun and enjoying the spectacular view. Manresa beach is very close and it is wonderful for long walks, running, and sunsets. The owner is very helpful with explanations and directions. Enjoy your stay, what a find!!!
what a lovely comfortable home away from home - simple, clean and neat and great location1
Lori - thank you again for sharing your lovely home. We enjoyed everything about our stay - the beach was simply amazing; quiet, relaxing, clean and dog friendly! And, the weather couldn't have been better.
The property was wonderful. The place has any and everything you need. Lori was a pleasure to deal with and ready if you needed her. The view was much better than we had anticipated. Everything was perfect.
I am so glad it was a good fit for your family! We really enjoy the deck all seasons, and the warm weather we have enjoyed this summer is especially great up on the deck. We have installed a new fence and gate in the back, too!
Thanks for your nice feedback and excellent review!
Very comfortable home with a beautiful view
Our family had a relaxing week in this comfortable home. We had everything we needed and the view is beautiful from the top floor. The only drawback was the beach was somewhat more difficult to access than excepted.
The beach access is "fluid"...unfortunately, the county put a restriction on the stairs that are the fastest way to the beach. BUT our neighbors and the surfers tend to just zip open the fence on a daily basis. We have recently installed a back gate, and the walk is shorter. Unfortunately, sometimes we walk to the Manresa State Beach entrance which is about a 10 minute walk instead of the 3-5 minute walk that we usually enjoy ;) Thanks for the nice review!
This location is unbeatable for walk in access to Manresa State Beach; 5-10 minutes to Aptos and Rio del Mar, with lots of small unique markets, restaurants, bars, and shops.15 minutes to all that Santa Cruz/Capitola offers, including the Beach Boardwalk for thrill seekers, surfing at all the famous breaks, shopping downtown SC, cultural offerings at the UC-Santa Cruz and Cabrillo College campuses, mountain biking at the Forest of Nicene Marks. 35-45 minutes south is Monterey with its golf, acquarium, restaurants, kayaking Elkhorn Slough. You could choose a different outing each day of the week!
