Guestbook comments from the manager

We just could not leave without letting you know how much we enjoyed your beautiful home. The gardens and the view are magnificent. It is truly one of the most serene and lovely spots we have EVER visited! If/when we return to Hawaii, we would love to stay here again- and for a much longer time. This is truly a 5+ star home, and would highly recommend it. Thank you for your hospitality and your many kindnesses. We wish you continued peace and happiness.

Best place to stay on the Big Island period!!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here on our honeymoon and I can't say enough good things about this property! I almost don't want to tell you how great it was because I want to be able to get it anytime I want! The property was so gorgeous and so well decorated with amazing finishes while still keeping the old Hawaiian charm. The landscaping was immaculate. You were able to enjoy nature feeling 1 million miles away, well being so close to town. The bed was so comfortable, best night sleep I've had in a long time! I loved having my morning coffee on the lanai and getting to feed the geckos my leftover lychees, and then enjoying my morning shower outdoors. This place has such a peaceful serene vibe. We also had the pleasure of meeting the owner and she was nothing short of amazing, so sweet and hospitable! We will definitely be back! -Jenny and Scott Heimaster

Retreat in No. Kohala

  • 5 of 5

Hale O'Pueo is the perfect retreat in No. Kohala on the Big Island of Hawaii. It rests up in a rural area of the island close to the Northern tip and the wonderful town of Hawi, and within 10 miles of diverse and active Waimea. You can plan day trips to Kailua-Kona (and Walmart/Costco...), the beautiful Hilo-town and the Hamakua Coastal drive, or just hang at Hapuna Beach and body surf. When you return to your piece of paradise, the peace overtakes your soul, you can shower outdoors and prepare the perfect meal in the large and fully equipped kitchen. WiFi is available, gorgeous sunsets from your lanai and your favorite games on the large-screen TV, or you can just listen to the abundant bird life and feel the Hawaiian breezes. Kalia has built a lovely home-away-from-home and I, for one, will surely return. Mahalo.

Owner's Response: It is a joy to be able to provide a wonderful home away from home that has such easy access to 5 stunning beaches, including Hapuna just 10 minutes away and be able to hike, sight see, and participate in water activities close by.

Beautiful view, garden, outdoor shower.

  • 5 of 5

This is a wonderful cottage. I was impressed with everything from the furnishings to the garden and the view. The kitchen had everything I needed. This is a very peaceful place that I enjoyed tremendously. Kalia was helpful with suggestions about snorkeling and the farmer's markets. Hope to return in the future for another visit. Loved the outdoor shower with tropical plants and flowers around it.

Hale Pueo da Best

  • 5 of 5

Hale O’ Pueo June 13th, through 23rd, 2017

On a big, big island sprung from a vast ocean, with some smaller islands nearby, otherwise alone with thousands of miles between it and its closest neighbor, we find ourselves happily housed in the hale named after the owl. Here on the northwest side, the dry side, we enjoy the warmth, the clear waters, beautiful vistas, and only birdsong to awaken us to each lovely early morning. Our normal routines are set aside and we are challenged to be aware of ourselves and what we are to do here each precious day. Pay attention.

Our host, Kalia, has welcomed us to her tranquil oasis. She finds the perfect balance of privacy and attendance to her guests. She somehow appears only when a question is pressing or a need arises. Busy and centered on grooming the grounds she is thoughtful and caring, always with something to be done. There are a thousand moving and stationary parts. She knows every one. It is easy to envy her spot in the world, and that is fine; go ahead. We learn.

Our time to leave has come and we are saddened a bit, but also looking forward to our next station. The volcano summons us to the birth of another part of this island. Then, a few days hence, return to mainland. We rejoin the mainland, but with more than a little bit of the Big, Big Island.

Everything we dreamed it would be...and more!

  • 5 of 5

We got the chance to stay at both of Kalia's beautiful and well taken care of properties, both were outstanding and had all we needed. We came to the Big Island for our "babymoon" and it was so peaceful each morning to wake up to the birds singing as they flew around the beautiful trees and bushes surrounding the patio. The outdoor showers and lounge furniture on the deck were lovely to enjoy after cruising around the West side of the island, not to mention the propane grill, filtered water and view of the ocean were amazing! This location is about a 15 minute drive South to Puako which was great for snorkeling early in the morning with tons of turtles and fish (all the gear you need for the beach is in the garage!). I am so appreciative of the privacy and tranquility of Hale o Pueo, and Kalia's kind and helpful nature. Hands down, we would totally stay here again in a heartbeat! Mahalo Kalia!

Beautiful, serene get-away

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful, serene get-away destination. It is a nice change from "touristy" Hawaii. The owner lives nearby and she was very helpful and welcoming. The view from the porch is breath-taking. The little home is very clean and beautifully appointed. This rental is on our "must do" list for next HawIi visit. It is a bit off the beaten track, so don't be put off as you drive by a few run-down rural homes/ farms on the way to this wonderful place. If you want peace and beauty, do select this place.
