Creekfront Cabin With Pond, 2-Story Playhouse For The Kids. Pet-Friendly.
Newly listed with VRBO!
Blackwell Branch Cabin...It's all about the creek. And the pond. And the woods. And the mountains beyond. Peace, nature, serenity. Fall asleep to the sounds of the rushing creek right outside the windows. Open the french doors wide and let the fresh breeze in. Enjoy morning coffee on the wrap-around deck overlooking the creek, watch deer in the meadow and geese in the pond. Relax in the evening on the rocking chair porch. Let the kids run-- they'll love the 2-story playhouse. Fish for a trout dinner just steps outside the back door!
Blackwell Branch Cabin is bordered by two creeks-- it sits right on rushing Tusquittee Creek which can be heard from every room in the cabin and in addition, there is another small creek ("Blackwell Branch") that runs along the western edge of the property. This smaller creek is perfect for younger kids to mess around in and get their feet wet, exploring under rocks for salamanders and frogs. The cabin boasts wide wrap-around decks, a rocking chair front porch and even a two-story playhouse for the kids! A large section of the rear deck is closed off with gates to keep your small children and pets secure. There's a large fire-pit for nighttime campfires right on the banks of the creek. Catch your dinner right from your backyard and cook it on the brand-new gas BBQ grill.
Interior: 3 bedrooms & 2 full baths (1450sf)
Upstairs is the master bedroom loft with queen-size four-poster bed, two closets and one large dresser. The second bedroom upstairs has a single bed with a pull-out trundle, and closet. Between the two bedrooms is a full bath with shower/tub and a large closet to stash away all your things. The third bedroom is downstairs and has an antique metal bed (double), closet and large dresser with TV. Next to it is the other bathroom which has an old-fashioned claw-foot soaking tub, perfect for unwinding after a day on the trails. (The stacked washer/dryer is in a closet in this bathroom.)
The downstairs living space has an open plan with kitchen open to the dining room and living room. Dining room has a large farm-style table. There is a second smaller table in the dining room area for games & puzzles and setting up your laptop. The living room has a large wrap-around sectional sofa w/recliner that sits right in front of the river-rock hearth and wood-burning stove, and a large HD TV. Kitchen, dining room and living room all open out to the wide, wrap-around decks with the creek right outside. The large rocking chair front porch is a great place to watch for deer as they trek from the pond and up the mountain at the end of the day.
The property: The cabin sits on three wooded acres along Tusquittee Creek, level, with a gravel pull-through drive. Serenity Lane is a dead-end road with only four homes-- the first is Gili's Cove Cottage (our sister property-- see VRBO #659518), next are the wooded lots, then Blackwell Branch Cabin, another wooded lot (1+acres), then our own home and beyond our home at the dead-end is our one and only neighbor. We own all the wooded property between Gili's Cove Cottage and the Cabin, so children (and grown-ups) can feel free to wander among the trees and wildflowers. There is no traffic on our little lane other than ourselves. Parents can feel comfortable allowing their children to run and play around the property, in the woods, along the creek and around the pond without fear of traffic or strangers.
Internet, TV and telephone: Keeping in mind that cellular service here in our little corner of the mountains can be somewhat erratic, we've provided a landline telephone (unlimited long distance in the continental US) and hi-speed internet (Wi-Fi) to help you keep in touch. TV is provided by DirectTV and a Roku streaming device lets you use your Netflix, Hulu and other apps.
Equipment & supplies:
Bedrooms & baths: All sheets and towels are provided, with extras in the linen closet. Bathrooms are supplied with bar soap, liquid hand soap, extra toilet paper and Kleenex, and hairdryer.
Kitchen is fully equipped: microwave, coffeemaker, toaster, blender, hand-mixer, all pots & pans, dishwasher soap and liquid dish soap, hand soap, paper towels.
Living room: Starter supply of wood for wood-burning stove is provided. For the big fire-pit out by the creek, you'll find plenty of dead-fall wood on the property.
Reading library, games & puzzles: You’ll find a large collection of books of all types in the bookcase and nightstands. A supply of jigsaw puzzles and games is also provided.

About Linda & Jorge Gonzalez
Raised in New Jersey (too crowded). Chicago winters (too cold). Florida summers (too hot!). Clemson University grad (go Tigers!). And all we ever wanted to do was live in the mountains. We finally realized our dream and settled in the one of the friendliest small communities surrounded by nature's beauty which awes us every day. Peace. Nature. Tranquility. We found our serenity.
Linda & Jorge Gonzalez purchased this Cabin in 2016
Why Linda & Jorge Gonzalez chose Tusquittee
We discovered Hayesville and Clay County after driving west from the crowds and hubbub of the Asheville area. Convenient to three metropolitan airports (Atlanta, Asheville, Chattanooga), Hayesville prides itself as being 'two hours from anywhere'. A largely rural area surrounded by national forest, the town boasts both a single stop-n-go light and a nationally recognized fine-dining restaurant. The area is rich in local folk arts and culture, with the John C. Campbell Folk Art School nearby. Recreation choices abound-- fishing and boating on Lake Chatuge is 10 minutes away. Hiking, waterfalls, golf, antiques galore. Concerts on the square, festivals and vineyards make it hard to choose what to do each day, especially on a summer weekend. The cabin is convenient to town but feels a world away.
What makes this Cabin unique
Turn off the road, drive past the pasture, look across the pond, cross over the creek and you've entered a different world. Blackwell Branch Cabin is the sister property to Gili's Cove Cottage (VRBO#659518). The cabin sits right on the creek-- a rushing, stocked trout stream right outside your windows. The cabin and cottage are next to each other, but not too close-- separated by more than an acre of woods. Perfect for lots of family time together and lots of privacy when you need it. The large farm-style dining table inside and the large picnic table out on the deck are perfect for family meals or a quiet retreat, always with the sounds of the rushing creek just a few feet away. The pond offers a never-ending show of wildlife-- deer, ducks and geese, cranes and our resident Great Blue Heron and golden eagle. Children love to walk by the pasture and watch the mommas watching over their calves as they run and play, with papa bull always casting a wary eye. Take a walk by the pond and creek-- you'll feel like you're in your own private place in the natural world.

Magical - A Tiny Slice of Heaven
We've booked many VRBO's in the past, but none of them even come close to this magical home! Our hostess, Linda, was extremely accommodating from start to finish and her hospitality was above and beyond anything I've ever experienced before.
She met us at the home and gave us a quick tour. There was a vase of fresh flowers, sparkling cider, some cookies, and even dog biscuits waiting for us. Each bathroom had a sweet bud vase filled with a fresh spray of tiny azaleas. The kitchen was well appointed with everything we needed, including a bag of treats for the local bull and donkey that inhabit the nearby cow pasture.
The setting was something out of a dream. Set in a valley, at the base of a mountain, in an airy copse with numerous little trails that beg for exploration, there is a bubbling creek just off the back deck. Just beyond the creek is a serene pond filled with chatty geese, a resident heron, and swallows flying overhead. It's the perfect spot for families with little ones to keep busy.
I cannot say enough about the organization and cleanliness - the home was absolutely immaculate with plenty of linens. The deck furniture, benches surrounding the fire pit, and the charming playhouse were all beautifully, and lovingly maintained, with no evidence of spiders or bugs, which is incredible for outside furnishings.
The playhouse was clearly designed with safety in mind. The gate at the top of the ladder only opens inward, assuring that little people can't accidentally fall backwards through the gate. It has some toys inside, all of which are in good condition and kept very clean. Plus, there is electricity in the playhouse, so both levels have lights inside that make it a warm and welcoming space.
There was a folder filled with local things to do. We took our dogs to the Chatuge Dam Trail for a nice walk. Then, we stopped by the Goldhagen Art Glass Studio & Gallery where we bought several pieces of art for our home. We met the artist and he and his assistant even gave us a demonstration of how they work and we got to see him blow several new pieces. It was a great and fun learning experience for our kids.
Linda is a professional dog sitter who can watch your dogs while you are out and about, so there's no need to rush home from outings. You can just relax and enjoy all the area has to offer.
I could go on and on... suffice to say that this is our new favorite home away from home and we hope to visit again very soon!
We had an absolute blast and loved every aspect of the cabin. The creek was definitely a major highlight as well as all the details the owners put into the place. Everything you could possibly imagine is provided with care. The drive to the grocery store takes 15 minutes which proved to be quite easy to do. Also, the nearby Jack Rabbit trails are about 15 minutes away. Mountain bikers would LOVE this area. We loved it, too, and decided to go back for a 2nd hike/walk. The AT trail can be found about 30-45 minutes away, although we didn’t venture that far, so there might be an access point closer. Once we got to the cabin and had so much fun hanging on the property we didn’t want to leave much. In fact, after 5 nights, we didn’t want to leave at all.
Very comfortable, clean and private. Special touches throughout home.
It was cold outside but inviting inside. Nice touches throughout home and private. The water outside was beautiful as well as the grounds around home.
Coffeemaker and a blender! Clothes tree to hang coats was very nice.
Very clean and cozy
My family stayed there for a couple of days at Christmas. We had a very peaceful and relaxing time. This was one of the cleani
est places we have ever stayed. Linda was wonderful to work with.
She even had decorations for us, which was a nice touch.
Extremely clean and peaceful!
I have stayed in the mountains tons of times and this was the first cabin with a custom placehouse for my little girl! She loved it!
The creek is super peaceful!
The Owners go above and beyond to help guest feel at ease!
The cabin feels like new with lots of character and comfort!
I will definitely return!!!
Great cozy getaway
Very clean everything you can think of and need at your fingertips
Clay County and the town of Hayesville are located in the mountains of far western North Carolina, far form the tourists and hubbub of Asheville, Highlands/Cashiers and Maggie Valley areas. It prides itself on being "two hours from anywhere", yet is a convenient home base for all sorts of outdoor activities, from boating and swimming on beautiful Lake Chatuge to white-water rafting, hiking in the surrounding national forests, fly-fishing on rivers and creeks, mountain biking and so much more. There are antique shops, flea markets and thrift shops galore for shopping and just plain junking. Spring, summer and fall are festival seasons with everything ranging from tractor parades on the square to our now nationally-famous Pumpkin' Chunkin' in October and the not-to-be-missed Possum Drop on New Year's Eve. But what we don't have is traffic, congestion or roadways lined with strip malls and traffic lights and tourist shops. The local Ingles supermarket (with a Starbucks!) is one of the best around. Stroll around Hayesville's old-fashioned town square with our historic courthouse front and center, and when you're hungry be sure to stop in at The Copper Door, one of the top 100 fine dining restaurants in the country. So when you're ready to come to the mountains-- the real mountains, the way it used to be-- come to Hayesville and see what all of us already know-- Clay County, Good for the Soul.
