About Glenna and Paul Maney

We are in the "winter" years of our life and enjoy traveling. We live in the South - Georgia that is! We have been married since 2003. We have children and grandchildren close by us.

Glenna and Paul Maney purchased this chateau / country house in 2002

Why Glenna and Paul Maney chose Highlands

We love Highlands so decided to buy a home there. After looking for a couple years, we found and purchased this his enchanting chateau in 2002. Previously owned by a popular band member! We fell in love with the view, the 5 cozy fireplaces, and really everything about it!

What makes this chateau / country house unique

Although the town of Highlands offers many fun, interesting and exciting things to do and see, the Chateau is so equipped with so much from movies, hot tub, billiards, puzzles, jute box, pin ball machine, slot machine, and more that you will find that you really don't even want to leave it!

We were celebrating my 85th birthday and my whole family could be there, so we wanted a very special venue and that is exactly what we got with the Chateau. From the moment of being so warmly welcomed by Beverly to our last glimpse of Whiteside mountain, everything was a wonderful experience. The house is so comfortable with every amenity provided, and oh my, the views are spectacular!!!

Thank you Glenna and Paul for sharing your beautiful Chateau and allowing us to make unforgettable memories.

Sincerely, Joan Hutto

Perfect for a Girls weekend!

  • 5 of 5

This is the very best place for a Girl's weekend that we have ever been to! If the shopping in town were not so wonderful we never would have left the Chateau! We plan to have family reunions here and our office retreat!

Fabulous Weekend

  • 5 of 5

The chateau certainly met all our needs for my son's wedding in the highlands and everything was perfect. From the tremendous help of Beverly we were able to accommodate all our guests and entertaining needs for the weekend. The view is spectacular and provided a unique experience for our guests. Thank you for sharing your home with us and accommodating our special requests. It was a blessed time with family for sure. Robert and Sherry Bartz

Amazing!!!

  • 5 of 5

Highlands, NC is a great town and somewhere we will continue to visit for years to come! The Chateau has one of the most amazing views in the Smokey Mountains! This is a great vacation home for large families/groups with more than enough space. The owners and Beverly were very kind and responsive for anything we needed. Amazing people and home that I would recommend to anyone wanting a mountain getaway!

Well appointed house in a great location with a fantastic view.

  • 4 of 5

We are a family of 12 ranging in age from 2 years to 71. The house served us well. If I had to find a negative, it would be confusion over the multiplicity of remote controls (i.e. What did what). But we weren't there to watch TV anyway. The concierge, Beverly, was fantastic. Everyone had a great time and hated for it to end.

Owner's Response: So happy that you had a fantastic time! Sorry about the confusion with the remotes! We are in the process of transferring to a universal remote! That should make everything easier! Hope to have you again!

The Chateau made our family reunion so much fun, it wouldn't have been the same in any other home.

  • 5 of 5

The house is set up great. The bedrooms are all on one side of the house, so sleeping is pretty quiet. And on the other side of the home is the game/play area with the adjoining hot tub and fireplace.

We have 3 married daughters and 5 young grandchildren ages 1-8 years old. We have been going on family vacations every year for the past decade, frequently to a different location. We have learned that there are a few requirements that a home has to have. First of all, we need a large living area where we can all congregate, plenty of sofas and chairs for everyone, a dining table to accommodate everyone and then something the adults can do for entertainment (besides TV) during nap time and early bed time, and probably one of the more important items - King size beds for the adults! Before I say anything more, the beds are very comfortable. You can't have fun on a vacation if no one is sleeping well. The house had all of this plus more!

There are 2 tables that accommodate 20 people, one by the main kitchen that we used in the morning and one in the recreation area that we used at night. Both rooms, actually every room, has amazing, breathtaking views with an outdoor patio.

One night we had s'mores at the indoor fireplace and sat around in their amazing rocking chairs and talked followed by a family game of "Texas Hold 'em" at the poker table, aka kids game table during the day. Another night we had a family movie night in the movie room, there is a supply of about 50 -75 movies to choose from, with popcorn of course. Another night the men had a pool competition that lasted until 2:00 am while the ladies played Mahjong.

Just a funny story: It is hard to occupy the energy of a one year old, but Hadleigh had a blast. The Maney's had this low table that has about 6 different bins containing travel size shampoos, hairspray, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes. (So very generous of them to supply these items!) Anyway, Hadleigh's favorite pastime was to take the hairspray and walk up this little ramp, into the recreational area with her pink purse over her shoulder. She did this a thousand times, and by the end of the week she graduated to the shampoos. I do apologize to the Maney's, I hope we found all of them! But Hadleigh had a blast!

Another item worth mentioning is the co-ordinator, Beverly Wichman. She was so flexible in accommodating my children's travel times coming to the Chateau. It started the week off great! Thank-you Maney'
