Location of the house was wonderful. Only taking about 5 minutes to get to Main Street. House was very secluded and private. Although it lacked long range views the stream and land provided a beautiful and relaxing setting. We would stay again next time we are in the Highlands for vacation.

This is a fantastic property that accommodated our large group very well. The house is huge, the rooms are so spacious, the kitchen is very well stocked, the deck is amazing, multiple fire places and fire pits that gave such a wonderful ambiance to our stay. The house was even better than the pictures depicted. We hope to come back next year.

Great family long weekend reunion! Check in was welcoming and super easy with Janet! Plenty of room for kids and grandkids—little ones loved yard with tiny pond filled by two small creeks. Nice location on edge of town—five minutes from grocery store or Kilwins, but felt like being in middle of forest! Well equipped kitchen for cooking in—ten minutes from restaurants for chef’s night out. A beautiful property for a large group—thanks again Janet!

Great space & close to town

A group of us stayed at this large & very well stocked home for a girls weekend. The communication with the property manager exceeded all expectations! She communicated with us before we got there and was available for any questions we had. The property itself was really great space. 11 of us stayed very comfortably. And the back yard was nothing short of a fairy dreamland. The house was just about 5 min drive from downtown Highlands, and not far from hiking. We enjoyed everything about our stay!

Amazing house for multiple families!

We loved our stay! The house was big enough for two large families. We didn’t even use the guest house but will definitely be back and bring grandparents. The backyard is magical and great place for kids to explore. The location is also great and close to downtown!

Fourth of July, incredible family getaway

Our family has been going to Highlands North Carolina for quite some while we are from Florida our children live in Alabama and Georgia. We all met up at Valentine estate and probably had the finest time we’ve had on the family getaway in our lifetime. It was truly everything we imagined, and Janet was superb in every way. What a perfect place!!!

Everything was perfect!

This house was a beautiful setting for my daughter’s bachelorette weekend getaway. Plenty of room and bathrooms. From the booking stage to the checkout and follow up…the communication was excellent! I would highly recommend this property for a large family/group gathering. The house was well equipped with everything we needed and wanted! We had a private chef come in and cook for us and she found the kitchen and supplies far above par from other places she has worked. We couldn’t have been more pleased.

Family getaway

Check in was so easy ! And the chocolate cake was a hit ! We enjoyed our few nights away as a growing family. We didn’t even use one of the bedrooms and had 16 total ,including little ones. We hiked and visited Highlands , so close ! Definitely a house to keep in mind for future mountain trips !!!

Wonderful weekend getaway!

Our group of college friends and spouses had a wonderful stay at this property! We were celebrating our 60th birthdays, and had everything we needed for a weekend of fun, fellowship and football! The house is just beautiful and very well equipped down to perfectly stacked and cut wood for the fireplaces. We even had lighted make up mirrors! It was more than advertised! Janet was available to answer all questions before and during our stay. We would definitely stay there again.

Great weekend!

We loved the house and it was perfect for our family ranging from age 9 months to 87. So much space and good for multiple groups to each have their own area. And our grandchildren had so much fun exploring the fairytale back yard. Janet was great, meeting us at the house when we arrived and giving us a tour, and was readily available via text for any questions we had. And the bottle of wine and s’mores kit left for us were fun surprises. All in all a wonderful weekend and I would definitely recommend the house.

Incredible property

The home was beautifully decorated and well taken care of. The beds and bathrooms were also very clean. The backyard was breathtaking! We absolutely loved all of the fireplaces inside and outside! We had such a lovely time! The home is also so close to town which was a huge plus for us! We will most certainly be back! The house manager was also so wonderful to work with! Provided us with an infant bath and toddler booster seat. She was so accommodating and extremely helpful in providing all sorts of recommendations! We travel to Highlands often and this is one our favorites homes and house managers!

Fantastic Home!

We came in town for my niece's wedding. I waited too long to book rooms at the suggested hotel and had to find an alternative place. Oh my Gosh! I'm so glad I procrastinated! This house is Fabulous....Spacious, Super clean, and Fully Stocked. We were only 5 minutes from the Old Edwards Inn where the wedding party stayed & so much more comfortable. Several people complained that the hotel bar was crowded, noisy & super expensive. My brother could never find an open seat, so he and some of the others ended up coming over to our house to hang out and visit. Janet was great. She greeted us and showed us around the house. Staying at Valentine Estate made our family wedding so incredibly special. Highly recommend!

FABULOUS property!!

I was a bit hesitant to rent a house without any reviews. The photos and description sounded like everything we wanted. Janet was great about answering questions before we booked. I’m so glad I trusted my instinct! The house was comfortable, immaculate & just 5 minutes from downtown Highlands. The 8 of us have been getting together for an annual “girls trip” for over 25 years. This is without a doubt the best appointed house we have ever rented. There are 3 fireplaces…. we loved the one in the kitchen. The bedrooms were private & spacious with super comfy beds. Every bathroom had a lighted makeup mirror & plenty of supplies. There were even 3 different coffee stations. Great layout….We loved hanging out together around the fireplace in the great room and retreated to our private rooms at night. We stayed just 3 nights, but wish we had booked a week. We all want to come back with our families. Just a perfect place.

Lots of firsts. Looking forward to seconds!

First time VRBO, first time Valentine Estate offered for rental, first mountain vacation and first time Highlands. What could go wrong? Nothing went wrong. It couldn’t have gone any better! We are 5 retired couples from Naples, Florida, who have been everywhere together and have high expectations when we travel. We were not disappointed! The house is spacious, beautifully appointed, gorgeous grounds, no amenity spared and only minutes to downtown Highlands. It was so perfect that we never heard the perennial complaint about getting “the bad bedroom!” Janet, the property manager, was delightful, efficient and a great communicator. We were treated to wine and a charcuterie board upon arrival and Janet helped with restaurant and sightseeing recommendations. Concierge service without concierge pricing. I plan to treat my three generations of family to the Valentine Estate experience this summer. All I need is a date.

Nice property, great location, but overpriced

We picked this property for proximity to Highlands and room for 5 adult parties with separate bedrooms/baths.It's an attractive property, well appointed, but overpriced based on our experience:- We found insects on the bed and around the room in the guest house bedroom over the garage; by the smell, it had been recently sprayed, but insects persisted to the point we found it uninhabitable for our party.- The shower fixture in the downstairs suite was inop, so our party had to go upstairs to use the shower in another bedroom- Because of the guest house problem, we had to move one party into a smaller bedroom with twin beds and shared bath, but the light in that bathroom was also inop, making showers difficult without lighting- The deck was a nice feature, but the firepit propane ran out the first night, the three other propane tanks were empty. Fortunately, the agent had them refilled the next day.- We had a major leak in the plumbing for the refrigerator and separate icemaker, flooding the kitchen floor; we were able to finally find the valve and shut the water line off.- The dishwasher cycles never worked consistently even after reference to the online manual; it appeared the control board needs replacement.In summary, although the agent was very responsive to our issues (she is listing the house for sale), the property appears to not have been well maintained given it's age. The sum of these inconveniences greatly diminished our enjoyment of the weekend.

So much more than a vacation home...

We rented the Valentine Estate for our annual ladies' weekend, and it was magical from the moment we submitted our reservation. Janet, the concierge in every sense of the word, contacted me immediately to ensure our stay was memorable. Janet greeted me upon arrival with wine and a lovely cake. We’ve stayed in luxury properties, but never one as eclectic as this. The home is a feast for the senses, surrounding you with whimsical decorations, rich tapestries, and unusual artwork. She escorted me through the labyrinth of rooms and hallways, taking note of my every comment (even adjusting the thermostat as I joked about hot flashes). If I stopped to admire a painting or piece of furniture, she knew the unique history of each item. The pinnacle was the newly installed deck overlooking what can only be described as a fairy garden. Finding a home for ten high-maintenance ladies was a near-impossible task, but I could not have been more pleased. The guest house was perfect for the early-to-bed crew, while the basement suite was built for an introvert like me. Main-floor accommodations met the needs of my boisterous, late-night guests, while upstairs bedrooms allowed late sleepers to languish in comfort until early afternoon. The large, well-stocked kitchen was a dream, while the dining room provided ample room to gather for meals and games. Therein lies the magic of the home – it has something for everyone. Stop scouring through websites for the perfect home. You’ve found it.

Fabulous Home with ideal floor plan to comfortable accommodate multiple couples, large families or groups of friends. Everyone can have their own space and comfortably fit in main living areas.

The Oversized Master Bedroom suite is on the south end of the main floor with an attached Executive Office, Sitting Area, His & Her Toilets, shared double sink basin, soaking tub & walk-in shower. The Smart TV and numerous windows with blackout designer drapes might make you never want leave.

A 2nd Master is on the North side of main floor with ensuite bath including a combination tub/shower, large closet. A desk/makeup area is located in bedroom.

The substantial family & dining combination rooms are perfectly situated in the center of the main floor. A Huge natural stone wood burning fireplace anchors the rooms. A cozy sunroom with numerous windows, additional stone fireplace and wet bar scan the back of these rooms . Huge Deck with firepit. Fully appointed gourmet kitchen, 3rd with fireplace complete the main level.

Upstairs are 2 large bedrooms separated by a landing with a shared double sink, Tub/shower bathroom. One bedroom has queen bed the other has 2 twins. Both have numerous windows and designer black out drapes.

Downstairs Is huge area with Queen bed, private bathroom & Den suite. Bedroom & den are separated with an attractive heavy wooden screen. Den has leather sofa, smart TV and French doors that open to a covered deck.

A covered walkway through the kitchen leads to the outside guest house above the garage. This comfortable space includes a large den with sleeper sofa, cozy kitchen, separate bedroom with queen bed and full sized bathroom.

100% cotton luxury linens & towels provided for all 6 bedrooms & baths.

The outside grounds are heavenly. A natural stream with several waterfalls grace the back A fire pit, Adirondack chairs, standing heaters and grill are all available for you to enjoy.
