|Minimum Stay||3 nights|
This 4 bedroom 3 bath vacation rental is so unique that the price estimate provided on this site is just one of many optional rates. Basic pricing is for a party of 7 during prime time. If there are more than 7 the nightly rate goes up to $205. Off season rates are less and very negotiable. I live on the farm and can adjust rates for different situations. So, don't hesitate to inquire and start a dialogue. You can contact me directly at 828 926 3276 or email@example.com (please call or email-do not text)
We are located on 13 acres of beautiful rolling mountain property with so much to do you'll spend most of your time right here. It's very accommodating having the main quarters all on one floor. Drive into the two-car garage and go right into the kitchen. There are ponds, gardens, creeks, springs and mountain hiking trails to explore. The 'Farm Stay' experience has a horse, yard birds, fish and egg laying chickens. You're welcome to enjoy the eggs and sample whatever is in season from the fruit trees, grape vines and gardens. Check here for more pics:
Besides the two-car garage, 13 acres and barn; the newly finished living unit in the basement allows for parties up to 11. The basement is a complete unit with a kitchen, 3 beds, TV and a bathroom. A private entrance and a one car garage make this ideal for cost sharing families vacationing together or just for extra kids. Again, don't hesitate to negotiate directly with me to learn the different options.
A great place for home schooling. Lots of fun things to do and learn any time of the year with a resident guide and teacher. Choose from a list of subjects posted in your cabin. There is a private shooting range. Firearms and archery and fishing are some of the favorite activities. I have a Polaris Ranger to take older folks around the grounds who might not be able to hike the steep terrain.
Foraging and harvesting red and black raspberries, blackberries, apple, peach, pear, cherry, elderberry, black walnuts, wild mushrooms, ramps and fresh garden produce all add to your menu. Truly farm to table healthy living. Your fully equipped kitchen: 2 ovens, a cooktop with 6 gas burners, microwave, trash compactor & ice making fridge make it easy and fun to use our home grown produce.
Three ponds have resident ducks, bluegills, catfish, and trout that you can catch and release.
Bringing pets is conditional. We must talk about the issues with my resident dogs and other free range animals. Pets are welcome with conditions.
This estate is very private and secluded yet we are close to the small towns of Waynesville and Maggie Valley and Lake Junuluska. Not far from Cherokee where Harrah’s casino and Indian museum and many other activities provide a great day trip. Also, Asheville for the Biltmore Estate and lots more. And then Tennessee to visit Dollywood or Pigeon Forge.
This farm is only 3 miles from route 40 which will take you to Asheville or Gatlinburg. Close to 3 different entrance points for the Blue Ridge Parkway and Smoky Mountain National Park. Nine miles to Cataloochee Valley where Elk can be seen every afternoon.
At 3600 ft., it is usually cool enough to just open the windows, but we have a 'Green' geothermal heat pump that provides both heat and ac when needed. There is a beautiful mountain view from your bedroom window and from the half-covered wrap around deck where you can relax and barbecue in the shade or the sunshine. Summer nights are spectacular with fireflies competing with the stars.
Inside and out there is wireless high speed Internet, High-Def Direct TV and free long distance anywhere in the continental US.
Again, I urge you to contact me for current special rates and details. Be sure to check out my reviews.
Let's talk and make a deal based on your specific wants and needs.

I retired at 65 from the heat and hustle of Miami to the cooler and laid back community in the mountains.
Like when I ran charter fishing boats, I love to share my experiences here on this 13 acre mountain farm.
I built a cabin by the barn so I can stay here and tend the gardens, orchards and animals.
John C Dobson purchased this cabin in 2006
I came here to enjoy the seasons and to learn how to live close to the land.
I love doing the chores on the farm, being close to the animals and protecting them.
Planting gardens and helping things grow so I can preserve them and use them in my own kitchen.
Keeping the grounds and getting firewood keeps me healthy and tired at the end of the day.
I am very fortunate to be living this lifestyle and I am eager to share whatever I can.
This is our second stay at this home. Mr. Dobson spent time teaching our kids how to make bamboo fishing poles and and feeding the animals. This is by far our favorite vacation spot! You will not find a better place or host! We will be back soon!
My husband and I and our four good friends rented this cabin for our anniversary. We could not have had a better vacation! Mr. Dobson was very welcoming and provided the upmost hospitality. The farm was very peaceful and the cabin was very warm and welcoming and relaxing! The view is gorgeous and right outside of Maggie valley and a short distance from Waynesville. We also visited Cherokee while we were there which wasn't too far either. The two dogs Clyde and Polly stole a place in my heart and made the vacation even better. We caught our first trout in the pond and really enjoyed the fire pit. We are already planning to return next year for out anniversary! You can not go wrong with this place or owner for that matter! HIGHLY recommended!
There was lots to do on the property for the kids especially. Lots of animals to watch and feed. The two big farm dogs did their jobs well by protecting the other farm animals. In fact, my boxer didn't like it a bit. I have two dogs that are used to running free and we had to walk them on the leash. Not a big deal, but I don't recommend bringing large breed dogs as the resident dogs will see them as a threat.
The cabin was spacious and comfortable. Be sure to bring paper products if you have a large family. You will also need condiments and spice and such. As with all cabins I rent, I take an inventory before I go to the grocery store. J.C. was very nice and brought firewood for the downstairs bedroom and took the boys around on the Polaris four wheel. They also loved the fishing pond. The adults enjoyed the front porch and the sound of the stream. I really enjoyed my stay!! Thanks JC!!
We spent an absolute wonderful time at Emerald Gate. Had my son and his family with us which included a two year old. The cabin was cozy with the fire place burning as it was pretty cold outside. JC took us up to the top of the property on his four wheel and it is beautiful. Two year old got to feed Hazel the horse some carrots and pat his head as well as feeding the chickens and the fish in the ponds. Took very winding ride to Catalooche Ranch near by and saw lots of Elk, deer, and wild turkey. Beautiful streams all around and would love to go back in summertime and go tubing. Could not have had a more gracious host in JC and he has all kinds of fruit trees and has garden that he plants so many vegetables in. If you want to have a very nice place to relax and vacation Emerald Gate meets all your needs.
Me and my now husband got married at the farm and it was the greatest weekend i have ever had. John was super helpful and the property itself was a dream. Couldnt ask for a better time or stay.
My family and I just got back from a week stay and as usual it was great. This was our second trip to the cabin and it was just as nice as the first time we stayed. We took my parents this year for the fisrt time and they enjoyed themselves immensely. My dad enjoyed riding around the area with J.C. on the mule and learning about the area. My mom enjoyed reading, both outside and by the fireplace. My wife and kids love the farm atmosphere with all the animals. It is just like home for us, except it's in the mountains! Polly and Clyde are so friendly it's hard not to love them. J.C. does a great job making you feel welcome and will entertain you with stories as well as helping around the farm if you are interested. My kids enjoyed fishing in the ponds as well as exploring in the woods on the mountain side. They picked vegetables from the garden and even fed the pig! We plan to visit again soon and can't wait to get back. Thanks J.C.
