  • Really Great!

"Easily a 5-star rating! We had a group of 6, and all of us loved this place. From the great location and great views of the harbor to helpful details and information provided by the owners, everything was just great. Downstairs offers a nice kitchen, bathroom, one bedroom, an open room with great views of Southwest Harbor, and a cozier, quieter TV room with lots of good books. Upstairs offers two bedrooms (one with a harbor view; one quiet and cozy) and a charming bath. The basement rounds things out with a washer and dryer and exit to the kayaks provided. There's also a deck for enjoying the outdoors. The owners have thought about everything you might need, and they were friendly and easy to work with. The main "downtown" of Southwest Harbor is about 3/4 mile away, a delightful walk--don't miss pizza and apple pie at The Quiteside Cafe; Sips and Pita (restaurants) are also recommended. A short drive away, be sure to hit Thurston's Lobster Pound. Nearby, in Bass Harbor, Island Cruises provides an excellent 2-hour boat tour that is a great introduction to the island and the lobster culture. And of course there's always Acadia National Park! If you're planning a trip to Acadia or MDI, be sure to consider the "quiet" (western) side of the island and especially consider Dockside on the Harbor. I can guarantee we will be back!"

  • Cozy and comfortable

"My wife and I were delighted to find this cozy and clean upstairs apartment for our first trip to Maine and the Acadia National Park area. With two bedrooms and baths, and a spacious kitchen, dining, living room area, this was the perfect retreat at the end of each of our fun filled days. The queen sized beds were very comfortable. We were surrounded by the beautiful Maine mountains, Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse was just a few miles away, Acadia National Park was an easy drive, there were several hikes along the bay within a couple of miles, and when we wanted to eat out it was a 1/2 mile walk or drive to Thurston's, where we could watch lobstermen unload freshly caught lobster while we ate their spectacular lobster rolls and haddock chowder fresh from the sea. Thanks Carlton and Kathy. We will be back! Jerry and Deborah, Carrollton, GA"

  • wonderful

"We had nine adults meet for a family vacation. The house is spacious, comfortable and charming. We could not have asked for a better location to spend a week together. So much to do or relax on the huge front porch. Plenty of room to enjoy lobster dinners together and close to so much action. Will be returning to this house!"

  • Cozy SW Harbor Cottage

"We really enjoyed our stay in the cottage. It was pleasantly rustic and fitting in the environment - perfect for our short trip trip to Mount Desert Island. . We spent two days in Acadia National Park, which was our primary reason for visiting, but we were also enchanted with all the beautiful small towns. They each had there own delightful personalities. The weather was chilly and damp while we were there so we couldn't really enjoy outdoor views from the deck and fire pit, but the views from the large windows of the harbor were wonderful. The gas stove kept us cozy in the mornings and evenings. The bedrooms were small but the queen size bed was comfortable. The kitchen had everything you needed for cooking. The place was clean and well maintained."
