Why the Owner Chose Lake Nantahala
We love to get away from the heat and humidity of Florida (Tallahassee) and Misty Laurel Chalet at Lake Nantahala is a great place to cool off and have fun!
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin
While it's nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, we still need to be able to keep in touch. DSL internet access provides for this need, so we can still fulfill our obligations as consultants, etc.

Pat and Jo are, respectively, a retired scientist (entomologist) and educator (Spanish & French). Our puppy, Mitzi, a miniature poodle, loves being at Misty Laurel!

Smokey Mountains at Christmas? There is nowhere else I want to be. The drive to this BEAUTIFUL chalet was an adventure. There is nothing below a five star. From the moment we walked in the door, it felt like home. We had 4 adults, 12 year old, 9 year old and a 3 year old. Did I forget to mention the 2 dogs? It never felt crowded. If this is what cabin fever is, I'm more than happy to have it. Pat was so wonderful. He cares greatly for his guests and makes sure that everything is perfect. (He even called us at home to make sure we made it back safely). This was the best gift we could have given and received for Christmas. Thank you so much!!!
Owner response:Thanks for the kind words! It was a pleasure hosting your family last Christmas! All the best! Pat

The chalet was everything you said it was and more. The view is amazing and the place was an experience for us city folks. The chalet was clean and had everything you could want. Eating dinners looking at the view is something you have to experience. There is so much to do and go to around the area you can't get it all in the first time and we will have to come back to do it all over again. Pat you were so helpful with information and maps. It was a pleasure to rent your beautful home! Our two Maltese dogs loved the chalet and thanks again for letting us bring them.
Owner response:We aim to please! Glad to hear such kind words!

Misty Laurel is a perfect place for a mountain getaway for the entire family. From the living room and the deck, you have the majestic long-range view of mountains and Lake Nantahala. Renting a pontoon boat (less than 10m away) and meandering along the Lake and Nantahala river, surrounded by mountain peaks and the vast virgin forests, you felt that you were literally entering a picture which was unfolding right in front of your eyes. The kids had a blast of time playing in numerous creeks and water falls around the area. Nantahala Outdoor Center (about 20m drive) is a must stop which offers great services of water rafting, kayaking and many other outdoor activities. If you kids are into gem mining, you need to drive a little further (about 1h) to Franklin. There are several offering natural gem mining as well as "pretty-stone mining" for kids. The description and pictures of the listing is accurate. The house is clean, cozy, well maintained and tastefully decorated. It has everything our family needs, including a pair of high capacity washer and dryer, which are very helpful for a family with kids, all wet and muddy from outdoor activities. If I could, I'd like to give an extra star for the high-speed Internet connectivity in the house. Same can NOT be said for most of other rentals in the mountain area. We had several not-so-pleasant experience in the past. For some of us whose work depends on fast Internet access, this is essential. My iphone (AT&T) had no service soon after entering the mountain area, so it's good that the house offers local and long distance calls for free. The house sits near top of a ridge. There are sharp U-turns and steep climbs. For those of us who have only driven on paved roads, and have never shifted automatic gear away from "D", this is a heart racing experience for the first time. Then you shifted your gear to "1", slowed down and found to your surprise that your car (a family mini-van) could actually do this! There is never a doubt after that. Pat, the owner, is extremely helpful to offer information and respond to email/phone queries promptly. I have no hesitation to recommend Misty Laurel to my friends and families.
Owner response:We are gratified that our recent guests found Misty Laurel Chalet and the surrounding area to be all that they'd hoped for! We strive to provide everything needed for a wonderful experience in this gorgeous setting! Pat & Jo

I justed wanted to let you know what a fabulous time Mike and I had staying at the Misty Laurel Chalet. The scenery was breath-taking and waking up in the mornings was like being in the clouds. The facilties we great as well. Once we got there, we felt like just staying and not even taking in the sights - although we did - and it was great to find out there were so many activities just around the corner of the mountain (kayaking, horseback riding, fishing and boating!). Thank you so much for telling us about the Chalet. We look forward to using it again!! It was a very relaxing and memorable stay!

What a beautiful place! The view of the lake, framed by awesome fall colors, was magnificent ! There were great places to explore, but we were just as happy to to sit by the fire or play games. The guys were able to get the "big game" on TV so everyone was happy! There was lots of room to spread out and plenty of privacy for each couple. We are recommending it to our friends!

I just wanted to let you know on behalf of myself and my family members what a wonderful place Misty Laurel Chalet is to stay! I felt like I was in heaven when I awoke each morning in the loft and looked out to an absolutely breathtaking view of Lake Nantahala and the surrounding mountains. The cabin was warm, cozy, and had plenty of room for all of us. Being brand new, it had all the modern amenities anyone could want while on vacation. The location was great since we were not far from many charming surrounding towns that we could easily get to in an hour or so. We all enjoyed our walks down and up the mountain each morning. We look forward to a summer visit so we can enjoy the lake and the Outdoor center for rafting which is just minutes away. I highly recommend Misty Laurel for anyone wanting a pleasant place to enjoy the mountains of North Carolina!
