Our first impression was WOW! This is really a cool place especially to celebrate our 25th Anniversary! So romantic and priviate! The Tree House had been impeccably cleaned and the description of the property was very accurate. We enjoyed meeting the owner who gave us the full tour even up to the roof & charged us a very fair price! He was reliable to meet us when he promised as well. We loved being able to walk to the beach & fishing pier in 5 minutes as well as checking out the little beach community, shops, restaurants, etc. We kind of forgot to ride the bikes that were provided, but maybe next time. We went into Charleston a few times which was a pleasant 25 min drive past the marinas & the landscape of the coast & of the town. We shopped at the nearby grocery & cooked most of our meals & we also appreciated being able to wash a load of clothes! I would remind folks to bring their own hairdryer as I forgot to pack one but he owner thoughtfully provided me with an extra towel which was helpful. We would highly recommend this home & we have already told our friends to check it out! Unique and very well built! Denise & Dane

I just by chance found this place. I was a nubie to the HomeAway website so I was not looking specifically for something in Folly Beach...or even the Charleston, SC area for that matter. That said, man did I end up in the right spot for me. If you are looking for a flavorless, forgetable vacation, then I would suggest DisneyWorld. If you are looking for a vacation to remember then the Folly Beach Tree House is your spot. The first floor...which is above the garage is a large open space which includes a front porch area. The bed is comfortable, the place is clean and there is a good sound system for those who do not wish to simply have the TV blaring for background noise. On the next level, you find a full kitchen, another bedroom and a sitting area...and another sound system. Walk out the back door from here and you find another porch. From there you can climb another set of stairs to a rooftop area with a hammock. if you are so bold you can sleep under the stars. So, the place is magnificent and in addition, the owner, David, is friendly as is his cat...he makes available bikes if you wish to use them, to get around Folly Beach. With regard to location from here you are within walking distance (a few blocks) of the beach as well as the really cool restaurants, shops and bars of Folly Beach. I could not recommend the Folly Beach Tree House more highly. William

My spouse and I stayed at the Treehouse for four nights. When we were planning this trip we were captivated by the on line pictures and description. When we arrived and walked through the place, it was beyond expectations. One does have the sense of being in the trees, with birds and squirrels right outside the slowly moving limbs and leaves. One of the three decks is on the roof, just above a number of trees, with a spectacular view, especially at night, even from the hammock. The interior of the house below is finished with wood in a natural finish--floor, walls, and ceiling--the owner salvaged from a historic building being destroyed. Indeed, the owner hand-crafted the tree house largely from recycled materials that have been meticuously cleaned and refurbished. The furniture is completely comfortable, including the giant bed. The wall hangings and other items of decor are largely local in origin. The first level (one story above the ground) consists of sitting and sleeping areas (nicely divided but sharing one large open space), and a shower/laundry area. The upstairs is accessed by an open hand-built (and slightly irrregular, and thereby charming, tairway). A deck overlooks the front of the property. The second floor contains a fun and easy-to-use kitchen, a claw foot tub (romantic in the candlelight), and a little alcove just right for reading or nestling. The second floor deck extends from the back of the house. The deck on the roof is almost four stories above ground. The owner provided two bikes, and when the seat was too low on one, immediately adjusted it. The owner is not only an exquisite property manager with excellent human relations skills, but has a philosophical orientation to life and sees creating and managing the tree house as a caling. Downtown is three minute bike ride or ten minute walk. The ocan is a two minute bike ride or five minute walk. The village of Folly Beach is less commercialized than many beach towns. While it is not the sleeply little town of a generation ago, it is quiet, the people are friendly, the dining options are varied, and Folly Beach is only 15 minutes from old Charleston. We cannot recommend this place highly enough.

My wife and I recently spent our honeymoon in Folly Beach, and the Tree House was everything we could have asked for in a place to stay. When we arrived, the owner met us and showed us around, and everything inside was very clean and well taken care of. He had recently sprayed for bugs, and we only had a few find their way inside all week (it is the beach, and you can expect plenty of bugs outside in the summer). The layout inside is cozy without being cramped for two people. The king bed downstairs was quite comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed, but we mostly only ate in for breakfast. If you like seafood, there are plenty of enjoyable restaurants close by. Relaxing in the clawfoot tub is a must after a long day out on the beach. The stairs can be a bit tricky, as they are quite steep, but they really add to the effect of the house’s design. As far as convenience goes, this place is a quick 5 minute stroll to the beach, and we were also able to comfortably walk to the restaurants downtown in the evenings to grab dinner. The owner lets you use a couple of his bikes for the week to get around as well. The tree house is close to everything, but far enough off the main streets to give you a quiet, stress-free vacation. Lastly, the owner was a pleasure to work with. He took care of everything quickly for us, and was extremely helpful throughout the entire process of reserving, staying, and leaving. Highly recommended for a wonderful get-away for two.

We came back to Folly to get engaged, it was the location of our 1st get away together 2 years earlier. At first we were disappointed that we couldn't go back to our original spot, then while searching other options we came upon the Tree House. Dave was a great host and everything was as advertised. The comfy bed, the eclectic ambiance, and the childlike feeling of being in the trees. I highly recommend this for those of you who despise the sterility of the Commercial Hotels and seek the fun of discovering the niche qualities of places like the TH. Oh and by the way my proposal was accepted! Cheers.

Used the FB Treehouse for a week-long writing retreat and it was perfect. David, the owner, was a generous and welcoming host. I liked that most everything in the house (including the wood of the house itself) is recycled and much is handmade or repurposed. It gives a very cozy eclectic feel. Yes, it is rustic, but also very clean and comfortable too. You feel as if you are borrowing a friend's house for the week. Appliance-wise, everything in the house worked fine (toaster, coffeemaker, tv and DVD player, washer & dryer). Writing chi was very good and I also got some good relaxing in as well. Lots of birds singing and trees rustling. Rain on the metal roof is wonderful. The light in the day time is great and created a superb working ambience. High speed internet worked well and a nice little writing table satisfied my needs. For fun in the sun, the Treehouse comes with lots of toys like a volleyball, frisbee, bikes, and my favorite-the boogie board). In the evening, it is very quiet and being on the river side, is tucked nicely away from the noise and partying that happens downtown and closer to the beach. This is the ideal place for a beach retreat for a singleton or couple who crave peace and quiet. Beach is super short walk straight down the road, and "downtown" is a 10 min stroll away. The host is very good and I got the sense he really cares about people relaxing and having a good time during their stay. A wonderful value overall and I will definitely return!

This was exactly what we were looking for. The tree house was very accommodating, peaceful, and a nice relaxed atmosphere. David, was a gracious host checking in with us when we first got there, telling us about places to eat and visit. His laid back attitude put us in a wwonderful mood from the moment we got there. The house had a huge king size bed and was uniquely decorated on both floors. The claw foot bath tub was all we had hoped it would be and the widows peak was a great place to enjoy the weather and scenery. Just minutes away from the beach and a short walk to the main street this was an ideal location. I would recommend this setting to anyone that wants to get away and spend time with a loved one.

From our initial excitment of arriving early to find the property unlocked and upon entering the main living area to be greeted by a king size bed complemented by hand made quits, we knew we were in for a treat. We were greeted by the owner shoutly after arriving and were given the full 10 minute tour of the "treehouse" . The name alone should give you some indication that you were going to be in a different world. The retreat is rustic with exposed wood throughout and a claw foot tub for those special bubble baths. The kitchen is quaint in size, perfect for couples who enjoy cooking together. With the advantage of having a queen bed upstairs off the kitchen, you need not to venture down stairs, unless you need more room. Both beds are comfortable, with the king being hands down the most comfortable. This retreat is perfect for those lovers who are not interested in TV or keeping up with time. The beach is an enjoyable bike ride from the Treehouse and David the owner can help you out there. All in all you have to be into the person you come with or you will sit around and knit pic the place and never see the charm it has to offer. Me and my lover will be frequent guests of the Treehouse because it is an escape from the rat race and you can truely rediscover each other. I couldn't tell you if the TV works, nor the alarm, I never turned either on. I did use the free WiFI for a little work and that worked well, but my spouse had other plans for me!!!!! There are enough pots and pans to cook just about anything you need and the market downtown is about a 15 minute drive. For the money, its an experience you will never forget, just be open minded and love the one your with and you will have as outstanding time.....

This property did not meet my expectations. With a bit of attention to decorating this could be an okay place to stay. Currently it contains a mishmash of unmatched furniture that possibly came from local yard sales. The rooftop crows nest does NOT contain panoramic views of the Folly River. One CAN see the Folly River through a small opening in the trees but that hardly qualifies as a panoramic view. Coffeemaker was broken. Rust on the outside of the refrigerator doors. The shower curtain liner was black with 6" of mildew so I went to Wal-Mart and bought a $2.00 liner before setting foot into the shower. But the clincher was when 4" roaches began marching out of the woodwork on our 2nd day there. At that point I just wanted to go home to my clean, comfortable, roach-free home in Pennsylvania. The only positive was the bed was comfortable.

Owner response: I believe the description of my property is worded as not to convey false expectations (hence, rustic). Also, pictures are posted so that prospective tenants are able to preview the property. The rooftop crows nest does have a clear view of the Folly River and is most impressive during high tide. I will clarify this description on the website in response to this review. The coffee maker, which I did not know was broken, has been replaced. I will repaint the refrigerator doors as soon as the current tenants vacate. The new shower curtain contains no mildew and will be monitored closely and replaced as needed. I regularly spray for insects and have never seen evidence of a roach infestation. Heavy rains can cause problems with insects at the beach so I both spray and thoroughly clean after check-out and inspect before the arrival of any new tenant. Most of the feedback regarding the property has been extremely positive and I have a number of repeat vacationers. If a tenant were to contact me regarding any problem, I would immediately attempt to remedy the situation. It is my intention to provide a wonderful retreat and to be as accomodating as possible.
