It sleeps 6 to 10 people comfortably and is equipped for babies too. The sunroom is especially pleasing during the fall, winter, and spring months --it's a great place to soak up the rays!
During the warmer months we have two backyard patio areas filed with beautiful flowers, a water feature, fire pit, barbeque grill and plenty of seating. In both summer and winter we are close to numerous outdoor activities. You can walk two blocks to numerous museums, restaurants and shops and just one block to Leadville's scenic railroad.
The McCombe House History: The house was built by John (Jack) McCombe in 1880, hence the name “McCombe House.” Jack was an Irishman who came to America at the age of 18, and, finally, to Leadville to earn his fame and fortune--in many ways his dreams came true. He held interests in several large mines in Leadville, was elected city Alderman, and was the Democratic candidate for Lieutenant Governor of the state.
Jack McCombe owned many rental properties in Leadville, but this was his home. He held meetings of the “Irish Land League” here and entertained often. Jack, and wife, Alice often traveled and while they were abroad on a particular occasion they rented the house to a young couple who later gained fame of their own --Margaret and J.J. Brown. J.J. Brown made millions in Leadville and later bought a home in Denver which is currently a museum. The “Unsinkable Molly Brown” of the Titanic fame is none other than this same Margaret Brown. (We have dedicated our largest bedroom & sitting room to her.)
While you visit the McCombe house, we invite you to read the historical research paper titled "The McCombe House" by Mary Ebuna and published in Mountain Diggings magazine. The article gives an interesting account of real people who lived in Leadville during the 1880's and beyond.
Please come and be our guests!

Why the Owner Chose Leadville
My husband and I moved to Leadville straight out of college. We love the outdoor lifestyle and were struck by the incredible view of Colorado’s highest mountains all around us. We fell in love with the Victorian homes here and once we saw the McCombe house we new it was ours. Tim and I restored the house over many years and raised our family here. It is too big for just the two of us now, but we still take great pride in caring for it and sharing it with others.
The Unique Benefits at this House
The McCombe house has been a labor of love for us. The house’s 123 years parallel the rags to riches history of its Irish builder, Jack McCombe, and Leadville itself. Margaret (Molly of the Titanic fame) and J.J. Brown also lived in the home.
We have short summers, so we love keeping a beautiful yard and flowers for our summer guests. In winter, we have plenty of snow for winter sports enthusiasts. We are two blocks from the center of town and one block from the scenic railroad. Our corner lot is just the right distance from all the activities; the home is quiet and restful even during our highest tourism season.
Did I mention that we live next door? Our guests have all the privacy they desire and we are still available to answer questions and assure a perfect stay. See our web site for maps!
If you're a train buff our location will suit you fine. The historic train station is a block away. You can hear the "All aboard" from our backyard.
We get many guests who come for the various foot and bike races. We are one block from the race meeting place and two blocks from the starting line. No need to be looking for parking!
The main business district in town is 2 blocks from our home. You'll find restaurants, a pharmacy, gift shops, coffee shops, sporting goods, a haberdashery with homemade fudge, quilt and antique shops
Get a great steak at a great price or go next door for some fine Italian dining. Have to wait for a table? Go see the Old Western Hardware store across the street—it’s full of antiques and gift items.
This is a great children's playground with picnic area. Didn't pack a lunch? Subway restaurant is just across the street!
This museum and gift shop is a must-see. Mining and the Gold and Silver Rush are Leadville's heritage.
Stop by the Leadville Chamber of Commerce and Tourist Office to get maps for walking tours and/or driving tours of the mining district as well as other tourist attractions.
Check with the Chamber of Commerce to see the Schedule of Events for the Historic Tabor Opera House.

The McCombe House was the ideal location for the Leadville 100 Run. We were just blocks from the headquarters and the starting line. The home provided plenty of room for 12 people without feeling like we were invading each other's space. The backyard garden was perfect for a BBQ or just to enjoy the sun and a cup of coffee. The close proximity to other mountain towns (Breckenridge, Aspen) made it easy to do in day trips. If you like the mountains and all they have to offer or just to learn a little about mining history, then this is the place to stay. I know we intend to return!

Thank you again for letting us stay in your lovely home this past week for the Leadville 100 MTB Event. The accommodations were perfect for riders and crew alike; excellent parking and proximity to event. We especially enjoyed "cooking" in your well-stocked, perfectly clean kitchen; what a treat to have the room to sit and enjoy a meal all together. Your gardens are absolutely gorgeous and we took more pictures than we can count! Thanks, Tim and Mary, for sharing the history of the McCombe House with us as well..hope to return soon and take in all the beauty and fun that Leadville has to offer. Happy Autumn!
Owner response:Thank you so much Margie! You are appreciated. We'd love to host you again! Best wishes, Mary and Tim

The McCombe House was everything that was described online, and then some. We were delighted by all of the comforts the house provided for our 4 day stay in the Leadville area. There was plenty of room for our group of eight to spread out comfortably, and the beautiful kitchen helped us to enjoy some family meals gathered around the large table. After a day of skiing at Cooper, and playing in the snow, we felt at home in the evenings. We've been recommending it to friends who enjoy the Leadville area, and we'll be using it again and again as our mountain getaway. Tim and Mary were great ambassadors to the Leadville area, and to enjoy the McCombe House.

We loved our stay at the McCombe House. We went with another family and our daughters loved their own bedrooms upstairs. There was enough room for all and we never felt crowded. The house itself was beautiful and well taken care of. We enjoyed our visit would would return again.

We loved staying at the McCombe house. It exceeded our expectations with its charm, spacious bedrooms, comfort and very well stocked kitchen. The house was super clean and cozy. The location was perfect for the kids walking into town to buy home made fudge at the nearby candy store in town! When we go back to Leadville we will definitely stay here again!
