Welcome to the Scott Street Yellow House in Gardiner, Montana. This charming bungalow is perfect for a couple, with or without a small child. This historic home mirrors the rich history of the Yellowstone area. Located one mile from the north entrance to Yellowstone National Park and the historic Roosevelt Arch, this cottage began as a log cabin located in the rustic mining town of Jardine. It was moved down the mountain to "Scott's Addition" on the east side of the Yellowstone River. As the town of Gardiner began to develop, so did the Scott Street Yellow House. It was lath and plastered and renovated in the Arts and Crafts style in the late 1920s reflecting the concern for craftsmanship and artistry of the period.

Completely remodeled in 2004, this one-bedroom home has a modern kitchen with wood floors throughout. There is a sunny reading room, dining room and luxurious claw-footed bathtub for calm contemplation and quite relaxation. In the summer, the Scott Street Yellow House has the added treat of an airy gazebo poised to look out over a lovingly cared-for cottage garden.

Treat yourself to a peaceful retreat to really "get away from it all." Located in the heart of Gardiner, MT within easy walking distance to restaurants, shopping, and recreational activities such as rafting and horseback riding, as well as the wonderland of Yellowstone National Park. Make this your home base as you explore the majesty of Yellowstone.

Owner's Profile

Owner Description

From 2000 through 2008, I worked as the cultural anthropologist at Yellowstone National Park. That means I had the privilege of working with the 26 American Indian tribes who continuously occupied what is now Yellowstone before it became a national park in 1877. I documented their histories at the park, facilitated their ability to conduct ceremonies there, and worked to ensure their heritage and persepctives were represented in all park activities from planning to visitor education. Many of the framed pictures on the walls in my home convey aspects of Indian heritage at the park and in the larger region. I also have pictures of the charismatic megafauna there. I hope you enjoy staying at my home. I plan to return there someday.

The Unique Benefits of this House

My house is like a retreat. Yet, I can enjoy the full compliment of vigorous seasonal activities available in Yellowstone National Park just minutes away. When I return on vacation, I enjoy the peacefulness of the house and its surrounding environment - and the splendid beauty of the garden in mid-summer. Gardiner is still a sleepy little town, especially in the fall, winter, and spring. I experience relaxation and adventure when I am there. My home is also a perfect home for a couple's romantic getaway, too!

    • We stayed five nights in Rosemary's cottage, and it was the perfect base for Yellowstone activities. We drank our coffee in the garden every morning used the grill every evening. Although the daytime temperatures were in the 80's, with a window fan the house was very comfortable in the evenings. We would definitely stay again.

    • We had a wonderful time at Rosemary's cottage (6/14 to 6/17). The location was perfect, close to the Yellowstone entrance and to all other facilities. The cottage itself was comfortable and perfectly suited to our needs. The small garden in the back of the house a blissful oasis every evening we came home, plenty of color, solitude and privacy punctuated only by the birds. Thank you so much for everything, for helping us take back lovely memories of Yellowstone and the little cottage on Scott Street, painted against the blue mountains and the big sky.

    • We had the pleasure of being the first guests to stay at Rosemary's Cottage (16 May - 23 May 2009) and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Its location is ideal for exploring Yellowstone National Park and we found the location very quiet despite being on the main thoroughfare. The cottage is comfortable and very light and airy. We were able to enjoy the gazebo, BBQ and the garden. The supermarket down the road is well stocked and a short walk away. The town is also within walking distance.
