Why the Owner Chose Brevard

Brevard is a beautiful place - the air is cleaner. Your pace slows as you become a part of this small town. It's so much kinder to the spirit than the big city. My husband had been riding in this area for 10 years before he finally decided to settle here. And then I took him away... We keep the house with the hope that it will someday make sense for our family to live here.

The Unique Benefits at this House

Something to think about: If you have a rental home somewhere (ANYwhere - worldwide!) we are open to the idea of trading time in our house for time in yours.

Founded in 1936, the Music Center has matured into one of this country's premier summer training programs and festivals. More than 400 gifted students, ages 14 through post-college, come to the Music Center to study with members of a distinguished artist faculty and with renowned guest artists. For seven weeks, students participate in a vigorous program of instruction that includes ensembles, private lessons, and chamber music. http://www.brevardmusic.org/about/

The roots of American Forest Conservation lie in Pisgah at the Cradle of Forestry, the brainchild of George Vanderbilt, Frederick Law Olmstead and Gifford Pinchot. From the garden, a universally accessible interpretive trail winds through a hardwood forest habitat for a glimpse of native wildlife. Owner's Map of Brevard

This was not purchased as a vacation home, but when we met and married, we each came with a house. We love Brevard and don't want to give up our connection to the area. We decided to name our house 'Adele's Retreat' after the birth of our daughter Adele in 2009. This is her enjoying enjoying some "wa-wa" time underneath Bridal Veil Falls in Dupont.

Our family was so happy staying at your house. There were no surprises lurking, it was just as described in the listing. A lovely house in a friendly neighborhood. Aside from being comfortable and roomy, it was a fascinating atmosphere to surround oneself with. The items you collected and displayed, along with a guide offering descriptions, were intriguing. The resources for sightseeing, activities, dining, etc. were comprehensive. We have family in the area and so have been visiting for decades, but found time to revisit several of Brevard's waterfalls and to take a trip south over the state line to visit Pretty Place at Camp Greenville. Main Street is always a fun diversion, with favorites like The Proper Pot, Celestial Music and others. Oh, and the library.. if it hadn't been for a full agenda, I could have sat down for weeks and read selections that would have entertained, taught, or challenged me. The chipmunk that visited out back in the rock wall every morning was just a bonus. I expect that if we find ourselves in the area needing shelter, that we will seek out Adele's Retreat.

wonderful week at Adele's Retreat July 21-28

Guest: music lover (Cumming GA)
Date of Stay: 07/21/11 Review Submitted: 07/29/11

This was our second stay at this wonderful home. Two grandparents, two parents, and a 3-year-old were very comfortable and didn't get in each other's way. Family meals with the open kitchen-dining room arrangement were relaxed and comfortable. On rainy days, it would be great to read your way through the library--no dog-eared 1985 best-sellers here! Art display is intriguing, but high enough that it's not a problem for small children--except for the "rocks from around the world" display on the coffee table, which is a kid magnet. Dinner and lunch at Hob Nob (dinner with live jazz), a world-class concert (Mahler 3) at the Music Center, gourmet take-out from Poppies, breakfast at the Bracken Mtn. Bakery, shopping on the square, cool wading at Sycamore Flats and Looking Glass Falls--just a hint of what there is to do. We'll be back!

Great house for a family

Date of Stay: 07/07/11 Review Submitted: 07/11/11

My family stayed at this house for a long weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. We have four children under the age of 8 and the layout of the bedrooms allowed us all to be very comfortable. The house has everything you would need, a kitchen with all pots/pans, dishes, etc. and a laundry room with a washer and dryer. Lastly, the owner provided all the details that we would ever need so that we knew exactly what to expect. We plan on renting it again when we return to Brevard!

This home was perfect for our stay in Brevard. With wedding festivities all weekend long, we were able to quickly and easily travel to and from all events in minutes. There were personal touches all around Adele's Retreat that made our stay very cozy and convenient. The price was incredibly affordable and staying in a home, and this one in particular, was so much better than a hotel room. The owners have made the rental process super easy and you can tell they take great pride in their vacation home.

Our stay at Adele's retreat was wonderful! The house was clean and had everything we needed plus a lot more. It was close to town and we didn't mind the walk. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. We were able to sit in the living room and enjoy the scenic view of the backyard and we were able to photograph several different types of birds. I would definitely visit this area and Adele's retreat again.

Date of Stay: 04/01/11 Review Submitted: 04/05/11

This house is a perfect example as to why I remain puzzled that people stay in hotels! We ENJOY the space and the ability to have some control over our diet (and food $$) by having a full kitchen. We have probably stayed at 30+ vrbo homes. Some things annoy us, like so much clutter that there is nowhere to put OUR stuff. This house is perfect. Beautifully and INTERESTINGLY decorated, but still room for US! Plenty of local information available. Clean. A garage for OUR use, not filled with THEIR clutter. Make sure you learn the back way into town - shorter than going out to Rosman and less than a mile, easy walk if you are up to some hills. Take time to explore about a 6 block region in town for great eats and shopping. Get a good map and visit as many waterfalls as you can. Then rest at your home away from home. I enjoyed the front sun in the morning and then in the backyard in the afternoon. Great to have comfortable choice of shade or sun at any time of day. Accurate and comprehensive info (you get more once you express interest) from very responsive owner. Great wireless internet, limited TV. Can't wait for our next visit!

Adele's Retreat

Guest: Diane (South Carolina)
Date of Stay: 10/08/10 Review Submitted: 11/02/10

Convenient to downtown Brevard, Adele's Retreat is a comfortable, well-maintained home in a quiet residential neighborhood. The visitor will delight in the art and extensive library that reflect an interest and experience in far away places. Thank you to the owners for providing information about the unique artifacts. The home is not as well-equipped for those who depend on up-to-date televisions, and for older persons who depend on good lighting for reading. But, I definitely would recommend Adele's Retreat for its location, amenities, cleanliness, and maintenance. It is an excellent place to stay while exploring not only Brevard, but also the many activities and attractions in the area.

Owner response:Glad you enjoyed your stay and thanks for your helpful comments! To respond - we've added additional lighting since Diane's stay. If you are reading this review and considering a long term visit (~6 weeks or more) and TV is your deal-breaker, we'd be happy to discuss setting up cable during your visit. Please do send me an email. We currently have regular TV with local channels, a DVD player with a small DVD collection, and, since the house has WiFi, the ability to watch shows online using websites like Hulu and Netflix.

Great location, great house

Guest: Old Prof (Ocean Springs, MS, USA)
Date of Stay: 07/01/10 Review Submitted: 08/19/10

My wife and I and our three cats spent the month of July, 2010, at this delightful place. From the first contact Brooke (the owner) was straightforward and helpful. We moved into the house seamlessly. All was in order, all was very clean. Brooke's instructions were clear and precise. Interesting and enchanting art work and literature may be found throughout the house. The neighbors were pleasant and helpful, Brooke was very responsive to our questions, the house was cool and comfortable in the summer heat. We had a delightful time at Adele's Retreat and would recommend it highly to anyone; if you're a traveler or have an interest in becoming one, you'll be particularly charmed.

Wonderfully furnished, extremely clean, pet-friendly house (fenced-in backyard!), in a quiet neighborhood, with a great location near downtown Brevard. We are repeat renters of Adele's Retreat and highly recommend the house to anyone vacationing in such a lovely area of North Carolina.
