Welcome to Joshua Tree, a desert community of rugged mountains, playful granite piles, magically quiet nights, peace and solitude and all the rock climbing, picture taking and sightseeing you yearn for in your travels here.

You can relax on the studio patio and take in the wondrous panorama of the skyline of Joshua Tree National Park. Just recharge and enjoy nature’s gift of wildlife and wild scenery. Enjoy the constant chatter of our cactus wrens, whose nest is a few feet from the patio or the family of quail who roost overnight in the yucca not far from your door. Perhaps a coyote will sing you a song. This is our desert music, a concert that welcomes you.

The studio is furnished for two. A comfortable bed, sparkling clean rooms, a kitchenette with a microwave, small refrigerator, coffee maker, toaster, frying pan and a variety of pots and pans, utensils and spices which should make anyone who enjoys cooking happy.

The porch sports a gas BBQ and affords privacy, comfort and incredible views of the park. When you’re ready for that walk the hiking trail is an easy 5 minute walk away. The Joshua Tree Highlands, where our studio is located, is a series of sandy roads, seldom traveled, where we all take advantage of our special surroundings with an evening walk.

If your sights are more ambitious we can provide you with horseback riding, rock climbing and biking, guided by local professionals. Or, you could travel into the park and visit the Wonderland or Parker dam or hike through any of a thousand granite valleys.

We are blessed with several super music festivals and Pappy and Harriet’s in Pioneer town offering a great music venue. With spiritual retreats and yoga centers, with alternative health care, with fine health food stores, for such a tiny spot you’re sure to find something exciting to do. Enjoy your stay and come back.

This place was perfect for a weekend getaway. The owner is nice and the location is in a really nice neighborhood of Joshua Tree near the park entrance. Very quiet too since it's away from the 62. The only issue I had is that the door didn't lock to the garage. Felt a little strange since anyone else using the garage can come on into the studio. Other than that, it really was nice.

Owner response: There is a residual door that is absolutely SEALED between the guest studio area and the laundry area. Furthermore, the laundry area is locked tightly 100 percent of the time, and only I (Piper) has access to the laundry area. It would take a crowwbar to get through the doot between the two.

My fiance` and I enjoyed an absolutely lovely weekend at this wonderful cottage! We found it to be clean, cozy, and well-stocked! It was a chilly weekend and we appreciated the extra linens and space heater provided for us. I loved the decor indoors and the views outside were truly amazing! We enjoyed sitting outside on the patio admiring local cacti during the day and the vast and amazing sky at night! Thank you so much for a wonderful cottage to spend our evenings after hiking nearby Joshua Tree!

Piper was tremendously accommodating for us and you can trust her---the place is exactly as described. Small and simple, but great value. We had no trouble driving to the place, following Piper's instructions (including the sand/boulder roads that make up the last mile or so) in a regular rental car. The place is close to the Joshua Tree National Park gate and the views across the valley are impressive. It is a five minute drive to decent restaurants (Pie for the People, Natural Sisters, Royal Siam) and a ten minute drive for groceries (Statlers or Vons in Yucca). I enjoyed walking out the front door and up the sandy road through the desert (there are other houses, it's actually a subdivision). Staying there meant we could stay into the night in Joshua Tree National Park...which was amazing. The park is at it's best at sunset, and then you can watch the stars come out. We plan to stay with Piper again, although next time we might go for the house on the same property.

This review relates to the Coyote Rest House, not to the smaller unit that we originally rested. We were upgraded (no charge) and REALLY appreciated the house. I don't know what the smaller unit is like because we did not stay there. Please make sure this review is associated with the correct property. The house was well supplied, very skillfully and tastefully furnished and decorated, and had beautiful views, It was very cold when we were there, but it was possible to keep the house warm with the space heaters and wall heaters provided. The proximity to the park was wonderful. The garden was charming. We are entirely pleased with the visit. Thanks much.

We had a lovely weekend at coyote rest. The kitchen is very well equipped, and the living area is very cozy. The bedroom faces a beautiful view of the desert, and the front patio is a beautiful place to sit and watch the sunset. There is one thing we weren't alerted about, and wish we had known - the road to the house is very rocky. If you don't have a four wheeler, be prepared to drive very slowly to avoid hitting any rocks in the undercarriage of your car. We look forward to coming back!

Owner response: It is true that the last 1/2 mile here is on groomed dirt...but most of my neighbors and myself just drive regular cars in and out of here everyday and do fine. You do have to drive under 15 miles/hour, and keep an eye on the road.

The proximity to Joshua Tree Park was convenient and the solitude of the rental after a day in the park was relaxing. I would recommend an SUV to negotiate the bumpy dirt roads in the area including the road to the house. The decor was spunky! It would be best to grocery shop in a larger town than in the town of Joshua Tree as supplies of fresh produce was limited. The kitchen was a great place to prepare a meal. The gardens around the home were varied and fun to examine.

Our stay at Coyote Rest could not have been better. The location was a great getaway from our normal city life. The house had everything we needed and offered a great view of the desert mountains. We will definitely return next time and I would recommend this to family and friends!

My wife and I enjoyed our stay at Coyote Rest. It was so close to the Park and made it easy for us to ride in and hike for the day. The accommodations are basic, more like an efficiency room without a stove but we were able to make do by using the grill and the microwave. The location is in the hills which makes looking at stars at night very easy. All in all it fit our needs.

About the owner: Piper and her dog Ivy, she is a gardener, rockhound, has a hound and loves the desert.

Why the Owner Chose Joshua Tree:
I once had a bed and breakfast in Hawaii and when building this home could not resist but to put in a small vacation rental studio that would be charming and affordable to adventurous travelers.

The Unique Benefits at this Studio:
It is so quiet here, there are only the sound of birds and coyote choirs. Wildlife is abundant, and happy. The starry nights are vivid, partly because of low light pollution and the lack of humidity in the atmosphere. The milky way is velvety and bright here.
