Location: Occidental, Sonoma County, Wine Country, California, USA (1.5 Hours from Sf, 10 Minutes from Pacific Coast)
Accommodations: House, 3 Bedrooms + Den, 2 Baths (Sleeps 8)
Keywords: House, Victorian
Perched on a hill just steps from downtown Occidental, the Occidental Victorian is a true Victorian farmhouse surrounded by effusive gardens, with spectacular views of Occidental and the hills beyond.
Every room is full of windows and has been lovingly furnished with pieces that combine modern comfort with classic style and beauty. Take in the restful view of town from the bay windows in the living room and enjoy more bay windows and a cozy wood-burning stove in the dining room.
The dining room built-in has unusual scroll-work designs that date from the turn of the century. The charming country kitchen is spacious and light-filled, and provides a great place for friends and family to gather while you prepare local fare.
Downstairs you'll find a cozy and private suite that includes a bedroom with a comfortable full size bed and views of the side gardens. The adjoining sitting room comes with a large TV and games, and offers a quiet escape for some evening reading. The sofa folds out to provide an additional private sleeping area if so desired.
The upstairs master bedroom is large and light, with views of the gardens on one side, and a birds-eye view of downtown Occidental in front. The second upstairs bedroom is called the "Dormitory" because it's so long and includes both a queen bed and two twin beds. The two bathrooms are gleaming works of art, with roomy tubs and period-style fixtures.
Out back you'll find a large deck with plenty of seating and a gas grill for outdoor dining. In summer the entire property is in bloom. Relax and take in the bucolic views while sipping a nice glass of local wine.

The owners have thought of everything to make you comfortable: from nice towels, comfy beds, and a well stocked kitchen to games, tv and access to music. The home is a short walk from several restaurants and shops in the charming village of Occidental. The home offers light and charm while maintaining a sense of historical integrity. Sit on the front porch and watch the sun come up over the tree covered hills as you rock in your chair sipping a cool (or warm) drink and imagine what it was like to be here in the 19th century here. I would recommend a stay here to anyone. It is located a short drive from excellent dining, the ocean, wine tasting and a wonderful spa in Freestone.

My first time at this property was enchanting: My husband and I barbequed on the large deck each night and the propane grill made it easy. We used the bikes, explored the incredible road to the Pacific with its mind-blowing views, and poked around the village, shopping and enjoying the farmers' market. We were there for a month and didn't want to leave. By the time we had our second visit to this home, we had less time, the owners had made major improvements; for example, although these photos don't reflect it, the landscaping and gardens were brimming with flowers. One of my favorite activities was sitting on the big porch in the great rocking chair, reading a book, smelling the fragrant gardens all around me, while occasionally glancing down into the village. It is quintessential, "Wine Country" elegance, and I can't wait to return this summer for our 3rd visit to our "home away from home", (which is Rome, Italy)!
