Location: Murphy, Smoky Mountains, North Carolina, USA

Accommodations:  Cabin, 3 Bedrooms + No additional sleeping rooms avail, 2 Baths (Sleeps 6)

Keywords:  Cabin

Situated on the banks of the beautiful Nottely River, you will find our cabin a relaxing escape. The cabin offers privacy with spectacular views of the Nantahala National Forest. It is located at the end of the road on the river and abuts the forest. The 2 mile drive back to the cabin through the canopy of trees is something you'll remember and enjoy.

Views from the wrap-around screened porch are beautiful. Open the french doors in the master bedroom for the relaxing sounds of the river at night and great views during the day. Evenings by the campfire can produce some very fun and memorable moments. You can also step off the bank and test your skills in the river that is home to a variety of fish including browns, rainbows and native brookies. You'll be amazed at the pristine setting and you will likely be the only person(s) on the river.

For those who enjoy a more active vacation, there's golfing, canoeing, kayaking, whitewater rafting, boating, horseback riding, hiking trails, mountain biking trails, and ATV trails, all within a few minutes drive of this quiet retreat on the river. You can put your kayak in up river from the cabin on the "release" and enjoy a fun 20 minute ride back to the cabin.

It’s secluded, yet convenient. Although we’re at the "end of the road", it’s only a short ten to fifteen minute drive to Murphy, the center of everything in this part of Western North Carolina! Located between the Ocoee River in Tennessee, and the Nantahala River in North Carolina where whitewater Olympic contenders have trained. Here you will find a town reminiscent of days gone by with a very walkable main street with enough cafes, restaurants, and shops to keep you interested. Side-by-side flea markets close by on weekends, a flea market in the city on Tuesdays, and even a downtown farmers market on Saturdays. This is just a beautiful area to travel the back roads and create your own adventure!

Drive the Cherohala Skyway (rivals the Blue Ridge Parkway for unobstructed long-range views). Ride the "Tail of the Dragon" through Deal's Gap. Visit the Joyce Kilmore Memorial Forest or the John Campbell Folk School for classes in folk art, crafts, contra-dancing, blacksmithing, bluegrass music, etc. Or just take a drive through a country-side replete with post card views.

Daytrips: Blue Ridge, Georgia has wonderful downtown shops and you must visit the Toccoa Riverside Restaurant for a wonderful meal.

Ellijay, Georgia - is the Apple Capital of Georgia - travel along Highway 52 to visit apple barns. Close by is Amicalola Falls - 729 feet of waterfalls, the largest east of the Mississippi.

Dahlonega, Georgia - has shopping at its best and home of The Smith House - a family-style restaurant that is awesome!

Cherokee, North Carolina - has the casino and you can trout fish on the Cherokee reservation land for a nominal price.

Asheville, North Carolina - home of The Biltmore House that is a must see!

Bryson City, North Carolina - Make reservations through Great Smoky Mountain Railroad for a beautiful trip along the Nantahala River and visit the River's End Restaurant for great food.

Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee - visit Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, as well as many outlet stores. Gatlinburg has the seven mile loop full of craft stores.

Stay at the river and ride the roads

Very nice well kept cabin right on the river. We had a wonderful time and the cabin was perfect. You are right off the main drag so the things you need are near by. We brought the motorcycles and the road access is fine if you take it slow. We had a great time riding the roads on the bikes. Check out Cherokee County Cycles in Andrews. It's a great place to fine the best roads for biking and have an excellent map of the area. Around the corner is hwy. 294 that will take you to Tellico Plains and the start of the Cherohola Skyway. To me this is the best ride!!!

VERY NICE CABIN

Guest: Georgia Family (Columbus, GA)
Date of Stay: 07/11/11 Review Submitted: 07/22/11

Our family enjoyed our 7-day stay at this cabin on the Nottely River. The cabin was extremely clean and well kept. Its location right on the river was wonderful. Our two boys loved playing in the river. The sounds of the water flowing over the rocks was easily heard from the deck and very relaxing. The large L-shaped screened in porch was great. The covered parking was very nice also. The cabin is at the end of a 2-mile dirt/gravel road, so it was very peaceful.

Clean, clean, clean! As they say, it was just what the doctor ordered! The sound of the water dripping at the little falls was mesmerizing---we could sit for hours listening to that sound. We were honored to watch otters playing in the river at the falls one morning, and at the same spot about ten minutes after they left, a group of ducks came. Hope to get back to this very cabin in the future. The owners were fabulous to work with; really nice.

Wonderfull Stay

'We couldn't have ask for a better place to stay. I liked how the house was close to the water. Us girls sat by the river listening to the sound of the water flowing, while the guys did the grilling. Great views from the porch & inside the house. The place was clean & well maintained, looks even better than the description & pictures. I hope to come back when it gets colder so we can us the wood burning fireplace and the outside fire pit. The owner is very friendly & helpful. I really enjoyed talking to him. He recommended Mountainside Diner if you like catfish. You must go there, it's good food at a great price.

Great Cabin

Guest: Jay (Georgia)
Date of Stay: 06/19/10 Review Submitted: 06/28/10

This is a wonderful cabin. It was very clean and well stocked with everything we needed and more. It was just the place we were looking for. It was nice to be secluded in the woods yet close enough to stores and restaurants when we needed to go. We had a great time playing and fishing on the river and the kids loved catching fireflies at dusk. The river was wonderful for tubing. The view from the balcony is wonderful and the sound of the rushing river was very relaxing. Overall, this was a wonderful place and I would highly recommend it.

Wonderful stay near the river!

Guest: Mom of 3 (Milwaukee, WI)
Date of Stay: 06/12/10 Review Submitted: 06/28/10

We had a wonderful stay at your cabin. Everything about it was great! The comfort, the proximity to everything we did, the quiet and the river. We visited Fields of the Wood in TN, visited the top of Brasstown Bald in GA, the boys practiced their casting on the river, took the boys swimming at the beach at Nottely Lake, spent the day in Chattanooga, TN at Tennessee Valley Railroad on a short train trip, stopped to look at the waterfalls near Highlands, and took the boys gem mining in Franklin. Highlands had a lot of nice shops and would have liked more time to look around. It reminded me of the small cities in Northern Wisconsin in Door County . The weather was hot, but to be expected and didn't stop us from enjoying a wonderful trip. I wouldn't have changed a thing. We would love to come back to your area again to do more hiking when the boys a somewhat older. Thanks again!

Wonderful Riverfront Retreat

Guest: Granma Dianne (Texas)
Date of Stay: 04/09/10 Review Submitted: 04/19/10

We just spent a week in this wondereful cabin home. The owners anticipated your every need when stocking their home. The beds were comfortable, the rooms tastefully decorated and the view of the sun sparkling off the river was a "welcome to the day" sight. My husband enjoyed fly-fishing right off the property and I soaked up the spring sun reading and watching the river pass by. Open the windows at night and you'll be lulled to sleep by the water falling over the rocks outside your bedroom. The large covered deck with table and chairs was perfect for breakfast outside. You're minutes from the little town of Murphy with a great Ingles grocery store and a super Walmart if you have forgotten anything. The Appalachian Outfitter was helpful with information on what was biting and we bought our flies there. We enjoyed the property so much that we ate in the cabin so I don't have suggestions for local restaurants. I'll rent again if we go back to the Murphy area.

What a wonderful time we had. My daughter came up on Sunday and they all went white water rafting and had a nice dinner together. The whole family played in the river just deep enough for kayak but safe for my son to kayak around. The neighbors dogs Murphy and Lady came daily for a treat and we all rode the ATV on the trails. It was a great relaxing weekend. Your home is perfect at the end of the street very secluded. Thanks for the relaxing weekend, my husband and I desperately needed!
