Our stay here was absolutely wonderful. The owners were very nice even called to make sure we made it in safely the day we checked in. Everything was very clean and organized leaving very little question of where to find things. We were looking for a quiet place to escape to and this was definitely it. We loved our stay here and plan on staying here again in the future. I highly recommend staying here!
great as usual
Been coming here since 2014. Home away from home. Owners are great people, no complaints. Business trip this go round no time for fish or canoeing, maybe September when we return.
And you are one of our FAVORITE guests. It was wonderful seeing you this weekend and knowing that you love it enough to keep coming back. You and your wife are great people. Hope your journey back to Colorado was a comfortable one!
Terrific lakefront location for the perfect family vacation
What is most striking about this property is the unique lakeside location. It is on a gently sloping peninsula of land extending into the waters of modest-sized Wells Lake.
Water surrounds the large lot on three sides giving the home a 270-degree view of the lake. An elevated deck provides the perfect vantage point for family gatherings while a swimming dock allows guests to take full advantage of swimming and boating activities. The house itself is updated and comfortable.
The nice mountain town of Murphy, N.C. is 15-minutes away with a number of dining choices (Parson's Pub is a favorite), quaint shops (great antiques) and even a museum dealing with the natural history and Indian culture of the surrounding area. Admission to the local movie theater is $5. An enjoyable "River Walk" trail follows the scenic Valley River to its confluence with the Hiawassi on the edge of Murphy.
Nearby mountain towns are worth exploring ... especially Hayesville ... and farther north, Graham County with its pristine Lake Santeetlah is definitely worth seeing.
A highlight of our trip was having lunch on the deck of the Topoco Lodge overlooking the white water of the Cheoah River outside the lakeside town of Robbinsville in the Nantahala state park.
This charming lodge/restaurant was built in the '30s and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Most importantly, the food is delicious and the location couldn't be any more scenic with kayakers coming down the rushing river.
Get a Graham County map from the local (county) welcome center featuring three "scenic (driving) loops" with spectacular mountain scenery.
As you can tell, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and we heartily recommend it to others.
My goodness! We own this property and you have made us want to visit it!!! Thank you for mentioning the panoramic view of the lake from our cottage...and also all of the interesting sites in and around Murphy, a sleepy little mountain town in nowhere surrounded by everywhere! Thank you for this lovely review and please do come back.
Wonderful cottage in a serene location
I loved the cottage the moment I walked in. It was lovely and clean...and has the most gorgeous view of the private lake. The windows frame it perfectly! The furnishings were comfortable and in nice condition. The home was stocked with all the things we could need from kitchen essentials to firewood.
The enjoyed the wildlife and fishing by day...weather could’ve been warmer, but we dealt with what we were given. My son adored the swings under the deck facing the lake. My husband enjoyed his birthday weekend and all the fish he caught.
We didn’t get to meet the owners because they were out of town, but spoke with Phyllis and she was very helpful and accommodating.
I would recommend staying here if you’re looking for a wonderful little gem of a place tucked away in between Blairsville and Murphy. I hope to return for a longer stay next time!!
What lovely review.. I especially enjoyed your comment about the windows framing the view! And that you caught some fish!!! We are glad your son enjoyed the swing ...our son (who is 41) STILL enjoys the swing! We are very happy that hubby had a great birthday and that you found us to enjoy it with him! Please come back and we will definitely plan to meet you personally next time.
HEAVEN ON EARTH
We spent several weeks here off season and it was beautiful! It was home away from home with a lot of peacefulness added to it! The lake is at full capacity and the cottage is immaculate. We highly recommend this piece of paradise for a lovely and relaxing stay.
We are so happy that you enjoyed the peace and quiet you were seeking! So many lakes are crowded with water skiers and motorized boats...Our little lake allows non-motoried boats only and that is a luxury in today's day and age! Thank you for staying with us and please come again.
We spent our honeymoon here and loved it, the kitchen appliances were great and the shower was very nice. We really enjoyed both the indoor and outdoor fire places and canoeing on the pond. The owner was very friendly and helped arrange a meal in-town one evening as well. Would recommend to any small group looking to get away from it all for a bit.
We were thrilled that you chose our little lakefront mountain cottage for your honeymoon and your dog seemed to have a good time too! We wish you a lifetime of wonderful memories starting with your first married night together at our cottage❤️
