  First and foremost, it's important that you understand you are NOT renting a house. You are renting 1 floor of a 3 floor home. It's more like an apartment. This may not matter when the owners are not living in the residence above you, but if they are, as was the case for our first night and next day - it's a different story. You could hear every footstep and even one of the toilets above. It's just awkward and lacks privacy. A few other things you should know before you rent this apartment: - The double bed in the picture is in the living room. The picture does state "Alcove Family Room" - but it should just say "in the living room." - There is no cable TV. Even the cheapest hotels have cable - but this one does not - There is no oven. There is a "toaster" oven - but make sure you don't plan to cook meals that require a real oven. - The "bath towels" are cheap and very small - more like hand towels. Bring your own - I wish we would have. - There is a sophisticated alarm system, unfortunately it makes strange noises constantly (maybe interference with cell phones?) and during our last night there was a constant beeping every 30 seconds for the entire night. - The apartment only provides 1 roll of paper towels and a single trash bag. Make sure you bring your own. - Check out time is 10 AM - and don't be late! The owners take it as a personal affront and will deduct outrageous fees from your deposit despite not listing the fees in the contract. We should have just stayed at the hotel across the street. At least there would have been some semblance of customer service.

  Owner response: We regret you did not enjoy your stay at our home. Perhaps if you had paid closer attention to the VRBO Listing you would have realized that the first floor of our home would not give you the experience you were seeking. The listing clearly states "1st floor of our home". In that type of environment most people realize that there is residual noise both from above and below. In the four years we have rented the first floor, we have never had any complaints. Those previous renters evidently paid attention to what they were renting. As for the amenities, the VRBO Listing clearly states all the appliances that are included and a traditional stove and oven was not listed nor was cable TV. The available channels from the TV antenna were clearly disclosed on the VRBO Listing. I'm not sure what you heard beeping but the alarm system was not engaged during your stay. If you had called and told us about it we would have worked to resolve it. Check out time is at 10:00 AM. This time is clearly listed on VRBO and the agreement that you signed. The agreement even reminds guests that there is to be" no EARLY check in or LATE check out". The inspection and cleaning teams reported to us that at 11:30 you were still in the unit; unable to do their jobs, they left. At 1:30 you answered your phone and when asked if you knew check out was at 10:00 AM you answered "I guess it was". I then asked when you would be out and you said "in 30 seconds". This behavior shows a lack of respect for all those involed in the business of inspecting and cleaning the unit for the next quest. Late check outs disrupts the schedule and requires return trips and extra fees from those who could not perform their duties at the appropriate time. We do not take it persoally, it's business. The $95.00 charge from the inspection and cleaning teams could have been avoided altogether if you had complied with the terms and conditions of the agreement.

  After being burned by bad advertising for condo in the keys last year I was afraid to try again. I saw this property first and thought this is us! It looks exactly like the photos, very clean, one minute walk to beach. Loved sitting on the porch after dinner. Recommend eating at Huck's for nice dinner, Cabana Banana for casual, Coconut Joes for drinks. All within walking. You won't be disappointed with this lovely home. Homeowner was very helpful.

  This is a lovely property with perfect access to the ocean, restaurants, shops. Beautifully maintained. We loved the hot/cold outdoor shower. Recommend bringing beach towels and your own good bath towels as theirs are quite thin. We had a two and three year old with us who could play on the deck mostly unsupervised. The decor is cute, nice and not over done. Can't wait to return! Our deposit check was returned immediately! Highly recommend to others.

  We absolutely loved our stay here! It was so charming and we loved the details of the home. The bathrooms are pristine and the decor is 5 star quality! You won't regret staying here! You can park 2 cars on one side of the driveway and it is DEFINITELY close to the beach, shops, and restuarants in downton IOP. The porch is fun to sit out on and watch the people walk by at night! We adored our stay! Everything was very very clean and I would recommend this place to a friend anyday!

  PERFECT VACATION LOCATION! This was our second time in IOP and this house is exactly where we wanted to be. The listing description is very accurate. Park your car and everything you need is in walking distance; restaurants, shopping, live music, and the beach only a 30 second walk. The house is BEAUTIFUL and the owners couldn't have been more hospitable! Honestly, the pictures don't do it enough justice. We were a group of four under the age of 30 and we found so much to do. Charleston is only a 15 minute drive from the island. We are already planning our next trip! Thanks Dan and Barbara for everything.

  This is a beautiful house with everything you need. So homey and inviting as are the owners. They make you feel so welcome! We were so impressed with easy walking distance to the beach, shops and places to eat. Our teenagers could walk at night by themselves to get ice cream and we didn't worry about anything. WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS RENTAL!!!:)

  We have been coming to IOP for years and this is BY FAR the best home we have ever vacationed in! The location was perfect; the beach was directly across the street and we enjoyed listening to live music from the restaurants across the street in the evenings. The house was immaculate and very comfortable-even with a party of 8. We plan on making this our yearly vacation rental for as long as it's available!

  I don't usually bother with reviews, but we were inspired to write about this property and how pleased we were with our stay. The space had plenty of room, was stylishly decorated (charming yet modernized), and was a 30-second walk to the beach, food, or bars. We enjoyed taking in the nightlife on the weekends, which hush to nothing when you're ready to sleep, thanks to a well-enforced noise ordinance and what seemed to be nicely sound-proofed interior. The key to how nice this rental was that it was designed to be a living space, not a rental at all. It explains a lot on how comfortable it was compared to other rentals we've seen, which can be stark, cold and worn. Our families that came over to visit were blown away by the quality and we were too. The owners were extremely kind and accessible, offering their hospitality. Thanks again! -RKZ
