About Phil

I have lived and worked in the St. Petersburg, Florida area since 1972. I lived in this townhouse for several years until I moved about 30 miles away to Tampa. I still enjoy staying there when it's not rented.

Phil purchased this townhome in 1980

Why Phil chose Treasure Island

My partner and I built this as a two unit condo several years ago. Very few beach front rentals in our area are as close to the water as mine. Most have a long walk to the water and when you're toting beach chairs, a cooler, an umbrella, etc., that's important. It also brings you much closer to the shelling, wading, swimming and the dolphins that frequently swim by and makes you feel more "into" the beach atmosphere. It's a totally different experience than staying 100 to 150 yards from the water, which is the case with most of the other accommodations in our area.

What makes this townhome unique

There is nothing like staying right on a sandy beach. Watching the dolphins swim by in the morning while enjoying breakfast on the back porch was one of my favorites. And the sunsets over the Gulf of Mexico are breathtaking! The photos of the beach say it all.

Picture Perfect Home & Location!

  • 5 of 5

This home has everything you could ever want or need for the perfect beach vacation. The location (directly on the beach) is absolutely amazing and the added feature of the swimming pool was fantastic. My kids spent every day on the beach and in the water building sandcastles and snorkeling for sand dollars. Being able to walk back and forth from the house to the beach at any moment made it so convenient. The listing for this home was completely accurate. The home was immaculate and full of extras (beach towels, beach umbrella, beach chairs, sand shovels, toys, baby floats, gas grill etc.) The owner was responsive and timely with every correspondence. He made the booking experience extremely easy and worry free. I would definitely recommend this property. Hope to visit again next year!

Best Vacation Ever

  • 5 of 5

This was the most peaceful week I've had in a long time. There is nothing better than listening to the waves. The house is a great location. Nice to have the pine trees to provide shade to help balance the harsh sun. The pool was cool temperature wise which was actually very nice for dipping in after the beach. The trees do drop their needles but it wasn't a big deal using the net to remove them. The House itself was perfect as well. Comfortable beds. Plenty of towels. Nice bathrooms. Interesting stone counters and sinks. Pool table was fun to have as my son had friends visit from time to time. Kitchen stocked with all the necessities including barware. Warning to cooks: only salt and pepper provided. We only ate out once for lunch and once for dinner. We just wanted to take advantage of the beautiful location and peace and quiet. We hope to return soon!

The greatest vacation spot

  • 5 of 5

This is the perfect rental for a larger family of any age. My family has stayed here for almost ten years and our grandchildren love it more every year. They have grown from 2 months to nine years and feel comfortable and enjoy the accommodations. The landlord is responsive and very flexible and easy to work with. This beach house is everything you'd expect for a house on the beach and the deck/pool that faces the sunset is beautiful This season the weather was terrific and the entire family completely enjoyed the stay and look forward to next year.

Disappointing poorly maintained property

  • 2 of 5

I am having trouble reconciling my experience at this property with the positive reviews I've read. Upon arrival we found the condo to be significantly different than pictured on the internet. The property is poorly maintained, to the extent that wood is hanging loose around the patio, the landscape is overgrown and it sorely needs a paint job, rust bleeds through every nail. The pool is virtually unusable - cold, dirty and generally unkempt. The bedroom configuration is undesirable, there is only one private bedroom (others are open loft style) and it is reached by a dangerous spiral staircase. I can't stress enough how difficult it is to navigate this staircase and we are athletic people, it's not safe if you are carrying anything or it's dark. There is not a bathroom where the master bed is so you will be using the spiral staircase in the dark. The decor in the condo is run down and very cluttered but I will say the house is clean, the bathrooms/kitchen are nice and the location is very nice, directly on a beautiful beach. It is also nicely stocked with towels, beach chairs/toys.

Owner's Response: I take every review seriously. If you look at the reviews in both February and March, 2017, right before his stay, you will see that there is something wrong with this review. I think this is a case where nothing would be acceptable to this guest. When my maid saw him there mid-day, she was under the impression that he was impaired when he told her that during the morning, the police were called on him at a boat rental place where he rented jet skis. We are aware that the siding on the building is looking rough and it is being replaced this fall, but he salt air at the beach makes it almost impossible to keep the nail heads from rusting. The landscaping is native beach plants like sea oats and sea grapes that weren't ever intended to be manicured. The pool is cleaned weekly and more often if needed. Some people just don't like spiral staircases. It is clearly shown on my photos and that area is well lighted by both night lights and a wall light so there is no need to use it in the dark. I hope the photos and reviews I have consistently received over the years speak for themselves.

The townhouse is located in the residential neighborhood of a tourist area. It is directly on the beach and is only a few minutes from numerous restaurants, souvenir shops, bars, boat rentals, deep sea fishing, and paragliding. It is also close to John's Pass Village, with its many restaurants and shops. Downtown St. Petersburg (about a 20 minute drive) has more restaurants and shopping as well as museums and craft beer taverns. Even though the house will easily sleep 10 or more, reservations are not available to parties of more than 8.
