Newly remodeled for 2015 season! Beautiful LOG Home in Mountain setting...
Come enjoy our beautiful, log home in the quiet town of Little Switzerland, NC. Relax, unwind and reaquaint yourself with nature. Enjoy hiking, rafting, fishing, golfing, and horseback-riding . We're just off the Blue Ridge Parkway with nearby attractions including Gem Mines, Craggy Gardens, Linville Caverns and Falls, and Mt. Mitchell State Park. It's a beautiful drive and lots of hiking along the parkway. Grandfather Mountain is about 30 minutes away.
The cabin is at almost 4000ft elevation, providing pleasant summers with cool evenings and snowfall in the winter when surrounding areas may see no snow. It is a very quiet area without a lot of nearby homes. The nearest 'bigger' town for shopping and groceries is Spruce Pine, NC, less than 10 miles away, via the Parkway.
The cabin uses a well and septic, so we limit the number of guests to ensure the resources are not stressed. With larger parties, we recommend shower/bath times be staggered to avoid depleting the 2 hot water heaters. There is a King bed upstairs along with a twin in the loft area. On the main level, there are 2 bedrooms, both with queen beds and one also has a twin with trundle. Downstairs, there are also 2 bedrooms with the same set up of beds as the main level.. In total: 1 King, 4 Queens, 3 Twins , 2 with trundles. The trundles are youth beds and not intended for adults. We allow pets, with a fee, but do not allow smoking inside our home. There are lots of books for reading and games for the children to play. It is our privilege to share our home with you and we want you want you to feel as if you were at home while staying there, We ask that you treat our home with the same respect that you do your own.

About Lori Vreeland
Our cabin is a Southland Home. We are fortunate enough to have family members who build log homes, so our cabin was truly a labor of love!
Lori Vreeland purchased this Cabin in 2006
Why Lori Vreeland chose Spruce Pine
Our love of the mountains and a desire to have a second home, in a cool, quiet mountain area, were our reasons for building our log cabin.
What makes this Cabin unique
The cabin is all wood, with the exception of one tiny closet, under the stairs. For some reason, code required sheetrock! Otherwise, it's all wood; walls, floors and ceiling! It is located on a wooded lot. But every year we get a better view of the mountain from Mother Nature, as she thins the trees with ice and winds! There is a wrap around deck, with outdoor tables and chairs as well as a fire pit area for cool evenings and making s'mores.

Great House, Great Trip
The house is awesome! Not all that secluded, but no direct neighbors. Quite and peaceful - the fire pit is great! Plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms and we were all extremely comfortable. Lori checked in with us when we arrived to make sure everything was ok. We all enjoyed ourselves and appreciate the rental.
The overall experience was AMAZING. The cabin was everything we want and needed!!
Glad you enjoyed your stay prior to the extreme cold front that we've experienced in the last several days.
Best Family Vacation Ever!!
To start, in one short week, we saw 40 mile an hour winds looking out the window off of the deck, trees hardly even noticing, fog roll in between the mountains towards the cabin, and the true definition of snow flurries; all the while being able to enjoy autumn with the yellow, orange and red leaves falling from the trees. All of this was the reason I chose to visit the last week of October. This cabin had the perfect view! Oh, and going into town had temperatures in the high 60’s / low 70’s, with Mt. Mitchel in the 50’s. There were three families, split up, one on each level, never tripping over each other, Walmart very close by to stock up food, and a fire pit. A wonderful time for us all! Just an added note, mom and dad weren’t well to use stairs and were able to stay on the main level without missing out on anything. I would definitely stay at this cabin again.
Great value and our group 5 adults, 4 older teens, and one little had a great time here.
This house was a great value. It was perfect for our family ( 1 couple and three singles plus 4 teens and a 5yo) to be able to have a long weekend away together. We could have easily fit 4 couples 4-6 teens and 2-4 little kids in. Found everything we wanted at hand and kids enjoyed the fire pit and the grill was in good order for cooking. Managed 4 cars in the driveway also. We split showers half at night half morning just by natural preference and had no significant problems with hot water considering there were 10 of us (including 4 teens who evidently are amphibians). The water pressure isn't incredible but certainly not a deal breaker. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others.
Log home was nice.
This home had adequate bedrooms and bathrooms for our group but we were unhappy with the cleanliness. One of the bathrooms had to be cleaned and we bought a new shower curtain. Also the oven had been sprayed but not cleaned . When I addressed these issues to the home owner, she made the statement , everyone standards are different. Overall the home was not clean and every room had an air freshener in it. The vacuum that was in the home did not work well.
WiFi was very spotty.
Lovely property, and clearly maintained. Used the fire pit and grill which was awesome.
Property was beautiful. Definitely bigger than expected. The location is wonderful. Kind of gives you an "away from it all" feel. Truly no major complaints. There was 9 of us. Two of them were small children and they loved hiking around the property. The property is three levels and the first two floors are immaculate. Basement area could use a bit more attention. Of course, it was clean, but a few things need to be addressed (new shower curtain, tighten the bed due to squeaking, back door windows need extra cleaning). But it was clean, just needed a small amount of TLC. Wifi is a bit spotty. Of course, you are in the mountains, so that is to be expected. There is a house phone, where we were able to give our family back at home the cabin phone number, just know you cannot call out (unless emergency services). So we made it work. I highly recommend this property. It is beautiful. Overall experience was wonderful. If you are looking to get away with the family, this place is fantastic!
Thank you! We hope you choose our cabin for another getaway in the future. It is indeed a great layout for 2 or more small families. We appreciate your heads up on ares which could be improved, thanks again.
Little Switzerland is the quintessential 'sleepy little mountain town'. There's a quaint downtown with a great cafe, bookstore, and general store. While it seems remote, you're with 20 minutes of 'civilization' for groceries, gas and shopping. The Blue Parkway is minutes away providing access to an array of activities.
