About Julia Higgins

HI, This property was my home for several years. When I bought the place it was uninhabitable. The house was in shambles. The grounds were over grown in places, or had otherwise never been used. Over the past 15 years, I with the help of 'friends' (most of whom still answer the phone when I call :) ) have made the property a unique slice on Holmes Harbor. Built originally in the 1940's - I have tried to maintain the unique character of the 'cabin' and have the grounds compliment it's size.

I have combined native plant growth with fun areas for playing, relaxing and working - though I don't expect you to partake of the later. I strive to always have something blooming in the gardens - no matter the season.

Julia Higgins purchased this house in 2001

Why Julia Higgins chose Whidbey Island

From the moment I drove in the driveway - after cutting back fist sized black berry to fit in the driveway....I knew the potential this property had. Great Eastern placement. Cooler, yet sunny in the mornings.... WHAT's more the afternoons and Evening SUNSETS will take your breath away....or give your heart a renewed sense of Peace.

The house had a good layout, open and easy - she just needed some, well, a lot of TLC. With new everything from flooring, walls, insulation, appliances all the meaty stuff.... she's a gem.

Added Benefits we're within 15 minutes to the ferry, and close to all that's 'happening' on Island.

What makes this house unique

Great Location. QUIET Property. SUNSETS, Fun House whether you are 3, 30, 60, or 90 years old. Read my reviews. You'll find that some 3 NOW 4yr old's think the loft is the 'bomb' and the swing is fun. Most others are in the 30 - 60+ year range. AND my 90 year old guests like the ease of getting around, enjoying the deck.

The house is well appointed. NOT your typical rental furnishings. Fun Art, added appointments. I try to keep things fresh, and make changes each year.

Absolutely Charming

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I loved our week at the Holmes Harbor cabin. We found it immaculate, comfortable and cozy with many artistic touches. The owner was accommodating and provided excellent communications before, during and after our stay. The cabin's location on nearly 2 acres features stunning views of the water and sunsets, plus a peaceful, private setting that's hard to replicate on Whidbey Island. We enjoyed fishing, beachcombing, Farmer's Markets, fresh salmon, halibut and crabcakes; homemade pies; and postcard scenery everywhere we went. I don't think you can beat the price/value and amenities of this very charming cabin.

Wonderful Experience

  • 5 of 5

We had a delightful Christmas holiday at this cozy, charming cabin with a spectacular water view. The place was well-equipped, comfortable and decorated for the holidays. Julia was easy to communicate with and did everything to make our visit enjoyable. We brought our dog and she and the well-mannered resident dogs played well together. This was a splurge for us but we hope to return and highly recommend this vacation rental to others.

Couldn't have been more enjoyable!

  • 5 of 5

This was just the place we needed for rest and relaxation on Whidbey Island. Julia was the penultimate "Chamber of Commerce" for the area offering not only a lovely location and peaceful accommodation but also providing great ideas of things to do whether we went North or South on the island. We so enjoyed our stay here and visits with our hostess and her puppies!

Incredible Views

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay at the charming cottage. Julia and her "boys" were such wonderful hosts! Our days always started out with coffee on the porch overlooking the bay ,and ended with food and wine on the porch watching the ever changing sunsets. We had fun daily outings on Whidbey, but the highlight was always coming "home" cooking up a gourmet meal and relaxing and soaking up the views. Whidbey is a magical place and Julia and her property definitely "dazzles"!!

Beyond all of our expectations

  • 5 of 5

If you like charm, this is the place for you. The cottage was spotless, and so many little extras - the basket of blankets and pillows by the door for chilly mornings on the deck, sooooo pet friendly (dog wash station, treats, room to run), fresh flowers in almost every room - I could go on and on. Julia is the consummate host - very attentive to what you need, lots of "local knowledge" and recommendations, and a great sense of humor to boot. The cottage is perfectly situated - spectacular view, quiet, easy distance to all the shopping/dining you need, as well as golf courses and other activities. And so much going on on the island - you would never run out of things to do. We felt right at home from the moment we arrived, and we were definitely not ready to leave. We will be recommending this place to all our friends and can't wait to return.

Wonderful cottage on Holmes Harbor

  • 5 of 5

The cottage on Holmes Harbor is wonderful! We enjoyed the home and property so much with beautiful sweeping views of Homes harbor. The location was great and the cottage was more than comfortable with great touches everywhere we turned. Julia was great in offering us access to the property and her wonderful vegetable gardens. We enjoyed the hospitality and comfort of the cottage and grounds so much! Can't wait to go back.
