My Rates 🌷

I don't charge extra for Weekend Nights, nor Holidays.

I do have a standard Two night minimum all year, and three night minimum during Peak Summer and Holiday.

My standard rate is for Two People. My theory is that two

shouldn't pay for four. So, I simply add on for over two, and hold capacity at four. The cottage is an original summer vacation home. It's not huge, fits four well. And the septic is not built for more :). For those that are septic familiar, it's an expensive but necessary part. I thus strive to avoid damage and repairs.

The SMALL PRINT 😊🌷😊

I Attempt to tell you just about everything, anything I can to familiarize my guests with what the property and area has.

The VRBO App on my page lists eateries, activities. Lists of services, grocery stores - one mile from the hose:) and such. Places change of course, I attempt to keep up...but sometimes fail. If it's not on my list, then I find that service, or quality is lacking. There is also a folder and business cards/directions at the cottage.

There are Actually TWO Full acres here. I live on the property as well. In my own home, my own gardens and such. I designed the second home to be separate, not look directly into the existing cottage. I have gently separated the two homes, with their own fenced yards for dogs. The property is FULLY Fenced....on every the gate at the driveway is closed, it's a dog heaven. i have two dogs myself. A rescue Shepard Mix and a younger Golden (updated 1/2017), both boys. Their pics are on the photo page. Thus our pet rules for those who visit. For those of you who are not visiting with dogs, Please respect that there are resident dogs. They are friendly. Love to visit and sit with you for sunset, morning java...but somehow they do get "it" and leave those folks alone who are not dog interested.

Not every VRBO property is for everyone. That's the beauty in VacationRentalsByOwner

I try to provide a fun different experience, with gardens, dog wash, games, garden fireplace, lots of seating, changes each season.

About Julia Higgins

HI, This property was my home for several years. When I bought the place it was uninhabitable. The house was in shambles. The grounds were over grown in places, or had otherwise never been used. Over the past 15 years, I with the help of 'friends' (most of whom still answer the phone when I call :) ) have made the property a unique slice on Holmes Harbor. Built originally in the 1940's - I have tried to maintain the unique character of the 'cabin' and have the grounds compliment it's size.

I have combined native plant growth with fun areas for playing, relaxing and working - though I don't expect you to partake of the later. I strive to always have something blooming in the gardens - no matter the season.

Julia Higgins purchased this house in 2001

Why Julia Higgins chose Whidbey Island

From the moment I drove in the driveway - after cutting back fist sized black berry to fit in the driveway....I knew the potential this property had. Great Eastern placement. Cooler, yet sunny in the mornings.... WHAT's more the afternoons and Evening SUNSETS will take your breath away....or give your heart a renewed sense of Peace.

The house had a good layout, open and easy - she just needed some, well, a lot of TLC. With new everything from flooring, walls, insulation, appliances all the meaty stuff.... she's a gem.

Added Benefits we're within 15 minutes to the ferry, and close to all that's 'happening' on Island.

What makes this house unique

Great Location. QUIET Property. SUNSETS, Fun House whether you are 3, 30, 60, or 90 years old. Read my reviews. You'll find that some 3 NOW 4yr old's think the loft is the 'bomb' and the swing is fun. Most others are in the 30 - 60+ year range. AND my 90 year old guests like the ease of getting around, enjoying the deck.

The house is well appointed. NOT your typical rental furnishings. Fun Art, added appointments. I try to keep things fresh, and make changes each year.

Absolutely Charming

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I loved our week at the Holmes Harbor cabin. We found it immaculate, comfortable and cozy with many artistic touches. The owner was accommodating and provided excellent communications before, during and after our stay. The cabin's location on nearly 2 acres features stunning views of the water and sunsets, plus a peaceful, private setting that's hard to replicate on Whidbey Island. We enjoyed fishing, beachcombing, Farmer's Markets, fresh salmon, halibut and crabcakes; homemade pies; and postcard scenery everywhere we went. I don't think you can beat the price/value and amenities of this very charming cabin.

Cozy Cottage with Everything I Needed for a Perfect Getaway

  • 5 of 5

I really enjoyed my stay in this cozy cottage just outside Freeland. It looked small on the outside, but once inside, it is roomy and cheerful. The bed was very comfortable as were all the chairs. Unfortunately I had to do some work while I was there so I really appreciated the Wi-Fi which worked well. I also cooked all my dinners for 3 nights and I found the kitchen to be quite functional. There wasn't one thing missing and there were lots of extras including dog bowls and even liver dog treats. Everything was neat and tidy and spic and span clean. Julia had filled vases with fresh cut flowers from her beautiful yard.

The entire property is fenced and beautifully landscaped and of course, the view was just spectacular. I took my dog and he had a blast playing with Julia's dogs romping around the property.

I went into Freeland each morning for coffee and one day, I took my dog to Double Bluff Beach which is off-leash. We had a nice two mile walk on the beach, then went into Langley to poke around. We had a marvelous trip.

Thanks for your warm hospitality Julia. I would stay at your beautiful cottage again in a minute and highly recommend it to others.

Great get-away weekend

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here as a last minute trip/get-away. Julia was very responsive and her place was charming. Her property was well-kept and had all we needed. It has a very beautiful view and was the peaceful, relaxing weekend we needed. It was also not far to get to stores/restaurants. Julia was readily available for recommendations and settling us in too.

We had the best time! The owner was so accommodating, gave us great suggestions for restaurants etc., and was patient w our dog, who did not want to leave his new friends by the end of the trip. Beautiful location w killer views, super clean, and fun amenities like a chiminea for s'mores.
