What an amazing place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we contacted Bob & Linda we knew that The Hideaway was a special place.

The picture's are accurate, but really don't do The Hideaway justice. It is so much nicer in person. The beautiful yard, and the screened in lanai makes for a very relaxing vacation. The Hideaway has all the comforts of home. We almost feel like it's our home away from home. If your questioning the location, well it was perfect for us. Close to Volcano National Park where we spent a day hiking the volcano, what an amazing place to see, and conveniently close to Hilo and Pahoa. Mahalo for letting us enjoy The Hideaway.

A relaxing place, definitely away from the crowds.

  • 4 of 5

Loved the sound of the rain on the tin roof. House was well stocked, very clean and comfortable. Negatives include owners request to keep the gate to the property locked at all times and more humid than I expected. If you are looking a comfortable ' get away from it all' place', would highly recommend.

Relaxing Hawaiian Retreat

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for 1 week as part of our 10 year anniversary trip. We wanted a place that would serve as a good base for us to explore everything from the green sand beach down south to the Waipio Valley up north. We also wanted something less than 30 minutes to Volcano NP as we knew we would spend 2-3 days there. As a bonus, we were hoping for a place that would feel relaxing and like a retreat at the end of a long day of hiking and exploring. The Hawaiian Hideaway definitely fit the bill and exceeded expectations in all of the characteristics we were seeking.

First of all, the Hideaway is very clean! The owner gives guidelines to decrease the risk of bugs, and it's working. We did not see a single insect or bug inside of the Hideaway the entire time we were there. The cleaning service also does a phenomenal job, very thorough. The bed was comfortable and I loved falling asleep to the chirping of the frogs and awaking to the sound of the birds. What we enjoyed the most was the large screened in lanai. When we were there, we spent most of our waking hours on the lanai.

Linda is extremely kind and a delight to talk to on the phone. I'm not usually one to reach out and talk to the owners, but in this case I did a couple of times and she is so incredibly sweet and nice to talk to, and she gave great recommendations.

By the end of our stay, we were calling the Hawaiian Hideway "home." If my husband and I ever return to the big island we will definitely stay at the Hawaiian Hideaway again.

Great Stay at "Our Hawaiian Hideaway"!

  • 5 of 5

We have been to the Big Island many times over the past 10 years and have used VRBO to select the perfect place for our stay.

"Our Hawaiian Hideaway" in Fern Acres - Mountain View, is one of the two best places we have stayed while on the Big Island. It was neat, extremely clean (and that has not always been the case), and in very good condition. This trip was somewhat unplanned and we had little time to search for an inexpensive rental that would meet our needs. OHP did just that. Several years ago we purchased a 2-acre lot in Fern Acres and had planned on building a small house for our retirement. We decided a few months ago to find a home for sale and purchase it and sell the 2 acres. OHP was the perfect place to stay while we visited some potential homes. If you are looking for real Aloha this is an ideal place to start!

Ray and Bonnie Burden

P.S. We found our kauhale (home) while straying at OHP and will move in a few months!

Wonderful stay

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay we loved the hideaway. We looked at real-estate from volcano to Hilo this is definitely the prettier side of the island with the vegetation. The caretakers are more than willing to answer any questions you have. The owners are very nice people and very helpful with questions you have. We hope to return soon to the big island and would definitely stay in this great hide away and would recommend it to all.
