PCL is a rustic elegant ranch, with plenty of room to stretch out, have privacy, cook a fantastic meal and make it to Pappy & Harriets in eight minutes! Wow. Don't miss the super bloom. We haven't seen flowers like this in years and they won't last forever. Grab a May or June opening and prepare to be transported!

Pipes Canyon Lodge and Retreat center is the perfect place to host your artist or yoga retreat, a bill chill get together or a family ruin ion. We have lodging options that provide privacy for retreat leaders and plenty of breakout space for small and large group process. Additionally, there are large spaces for yoga too! Lots of nooks and crannies for guests to stretch to for an afternoon amp, read a good book or have a heart to heart with a friend you haven't seen in a while. We have it all!

We've just put the finishing touches on our new bunk house. It's going fantastic and has views as spectacular as the house and guest trailer have. Cozy and inviting.

Situated at the Base of majestic Black Lava Butte (now part of the Sand to Snow Monument) , Pipes Canyon Lodge has everything you could want or need in a vacation rental. A private respite on18 stunning acres. It is everything you expect when you think of a lodge? A spacious 1,000 square foot great room where you can solve the worlds problems or cook a phenomenal meal. High beamed ceilings, comfy couches in front of an enormous stone fireplace, or cozy nooks to get away from it all with your favorite book. All of these things are possible here and much, much more. If you are like many who have stayed here, you will return to year after year! Relaxing, yes but don't get so relaxed that you miss hiking the 60,000 acre wilderness right out the door. Black Lava Butte towers over PCL. Recently named ' Ayte'ivyat' by Ernest Silva a respected elder of the Morongo Band of Mission Indians, it was once home to the Serrano Indian tribe. A place where Chiefs and Shamans reportedly performed ceremonial rituals and dances on the peak. It is sacred ground. When you see it, you'll dance too! Climb it before breakfast and contemplate all that is good in your life. It and the adjacent wilderness are resplendent with glyphs and rock formations that rival Joshua Tree Park. But rest assured, you must go there too. So much to do, so little time. Why not stay a week?

Now about those stars in the desert. No not THOSE stars, we're talking about the Milky Way! Now those are some real stars and they are brightly visible at Pipes Canyon Lodge! Even the Paparazzi are distracted by them!

Of course Pipes Canyon Lodge and Retreat Center has gorgeous views out of every window, boulders to climb and hiking trails to follow out the door. What else? 3,400 square feet of space with a stunning great room and cozy nooks. Dreamy beds, soaking tubs, games, horseshoes, a fully stocked pantry with many staples, spices and cookware for a real dinner. We have a dining table that can be set for six or 12 or more and plenty of seated dining for up to 18. An indoor jacuzzi to take the chill out in the winter and provide a great cool down in the summer. All linens provided, tableware, firewood. As one guest put it, if we don't have it, you only think you need it.

We can easily sleep 15 in the house (including 8 in a dorm setting) and we can sleep 4 in the trailer. If that isn't enough, there are four additional rental properties on 'the street' within walking distance of the lodge. We currently manage two of them. Why not let us help you plan your yoga, spiritual, writer or corporate retreat. Catering services available.

Rustic Elegance, Boulders, Views, Stars and 18 Private Acres. Turnkey luxury, spare enough to reflect the environment and elegant enough to make you want to stay and stay. As the first VRBO in Pipes Canyon, and after ten years of inviting guests into our home, we've learned quite a bit about what makes you happy! Whether it's a good book to read in one of the many nooks and crannies, games for the kids, or cloth napkins and tablecloth to spruce up your evening meal, we have it. Not to mention, a peace and tranquility found no where else. Oh and just down the road, great music at famed Pappy and Harriets. Enjoy antiquing and hiking by day and music at night. Why not break away from city life for a few days of hiking in your shorts during the day and toasting yourselves in front of a roaring fire at night, after a soothing mineral Jacuzzi of course. Or perhaps thinking ahead to that spring vacation. Wild flowers, wild skies and wild dreams. It's time to Pleasuriate at Pipes Canyon Lodge.

Pipes Canyon Lodge was once referred to as 'The Ponderosa' by locals or 'The Big House' Why? Maybe it was the 12 foot high vaulted, beamed ceilings, or maybe it was the massive stone fireplace in the living room. It is rumored that Pappy himself left his mark on this grand old house. Hmm. A lot has changed since those days. The house can still seat all of its' occupants at a sweeping dining room table with elbow room to spare, but now the meals are cooked in a chef's dream of a kitchen fully equipped with every tool you will need and the spices to make all of your signature dishes. Thermador five burner cooktop, KitchenAid double ovens, dishwasher, refrigerator. Stocked pantry with bar refrigerator. Plenty of room for a handful of chefs to cook an impressive holiday dinner while others make those tangy Mojitos for sunset on the 60 foot veranda. Pipes Canyon Lodge is cozy and intimate enough to be enjoyed by a handful but spacious enough for everyone to sit around the roaring fire and tell ghost stories. There are lots of private venues indoors and out.

A total of three fireplaces (wood provided) and a central heating system ensure that you will be toasty during your stay. One in the dining room that adds to the ambiance of dinners that stretch into the wee hours, and one in the Jacuzzi room adding to the steam you create. The Jacuzzi is centered in it's own 500 foot square room. The spa room doubles as a dorm room and looks out at beautiful Black Lava Butte, just 250 feet away.

With forty mile unobstructed views all around, sunsets are not to be missed. Whether from our 60 foot covered veranda or under our shaded pergola. What the heck, try both. Our beautiful boulder monument is there to climb or just ponder. If staying close to home is your scene, just count boulders in the front and backyard.

We are now equipped for retreats. We can accommodate up to fourteen participants comfortably in the house, and we have a separate instructor/s quarters. New this season? Our completely tricked out 1953 Spartan Royal Mansion Trailer. 300 square feet of luxury - 1950's style! Full kitchen! Indoor and outdoor showers. Sleeps two/three or four if you're 'close'! Separate rental fee. Our beautiful 20 x 20 pergola perfect for medicine circles or yoga mats or dining alfresco! Come on, you deserve it! Sipping sunset cocktails on your own boulder monument is pure heaven. What are you waiting for? Perched on top of Pipes Canyon with views of San Jacinto, Sleeping Indian (Sawtoothe) and Big Bear.

Pappy & Harriets just down the road!!!!

What we cannot describe? The ineffable power and presence of the unseen, the whisper on the wind of a time that was, and the limitless imagination that you bring to this ancient landscape. This is a place where the loudest thing you will hear is your inner voice or the howl of a coyote. Come on up and get reacquainted.

Utterly unique Pipes Canyon Lodge at the cultural crossroads between the old and the new west. From experimental architects to cow-punk rock and roll, the Pioneertown-Pipes Canyon area has it all. Whether you drive the 20 minutes to magnificent Joshua Tree National Park or simply step out our backdoor and hike the 60,000 aces of undeveloped Mojave wilderness immediately adjacent, with awe inspiring rock formations, stunning mesas and complete quiet, you will be changed. More stars than you can possibly imagine so close you can reach out and touch them.

The lodge is perfect for a romantic getaway, family vacation, your own big chill weekend with friends, unforgetable wedding or peaceful retreat. Located just 8 minutes from famous Pappy & Harriet's Pioneertown Palace, great music and good food are easily accessible.

And keep in mind, we are always 15 degrees cooler than Palm Springs and 10 degrees cooler than Joshua Tree Park, making this destination perfect year round. Additional accommodations available close by for larger groups. Enjoy delicious gourmet meals from Pipes Canyon Productions - with or without service. Excellent location for photo or film shoots. Location, kraft services and gourmet catering packages available.

Two night minimum - holidays - three nights. Christmas , Thanksgiving, Easter four day minimum.

Why Pamela Galvin chose Deserts

We had no intention of buying in the desert although it has always been our favorite place to reset our spirits. A friend invited us for tea in Pipes Canyon. On the way there, we agreed we would never want to live in a place so remote. After twenty minutes at their house, we called a realtor who brought us to this magical property. The sheer drama of the panoramic views, the power of Black Lava Butte and we were hooked. We made an offer the next day and we have never looked back. As artists, we cherish the inspiration we always find in Pipes Canyon and we adore sharing this wonderful hideaway with fellow artists and thinkers from around the world. After 13 years, this little pocket of wonder continues to thrill and inspire us.

What makes this house unique

The play of light from dawn to starry night sky. The wildlife. The brilliant colors of the sunsets. Soaking in the indoor mineral spa with a warm

fire burning. The warmth of the stone fireplace in the expansive great room, 'sit down' dinners in the luxurious formal dining room, cooking in the amazing

and perfectly stocked kitchen, hiking in the 60,000 acre 'park like' wilderness out the front door, waking to the golden glow of the sun coming up

on black lava butte, just outside your window. Watching the sunset from the boulder monument on the property or from the 60 foot covered front veranda. Our wonderful pergola and Boulder Lounge!

Lovely views and staff, but 3 star accommodation at 5 star price.

  • 2 of 5

We just returned from 3 nights at Pipes Canyon Lodge. Everyone had an amazing time - we had 2 families in our party (4 adults, 4 kids, 1 dog). When I looked at the photos on VRBO and Google (search "pipes canyon lodge wedding"), I was impressed by the 20 5-star reviews and the gorgeous weddings held at the property. In my mind, if this place is nice enough to be a wedding venue, it must be well worth $700+/night. At that price, I was expecting a 5-star property. It IS a charming house with a great layout, views, and amazing staff (see other reviews), but I left disappointed. Here's why:

1. It's dusty. REALLY dusty. Considering that the profile lists "low allergen environment" as a selling point, we were surprised to find that we couldn't even sit on the couch in the living room without having an allergy attack. There was a layer of dust on the lampshades and art in my friend's room and I woke up with a completely clogged nose and watery eyes when I slept on the twin beds. This place is in need of a serious deep cleaning. I suggest getting the living room couch and all bedroom throw pillows professionally cleaned and covering everything with bed sheets in between guests.

2. Rats outside. There were NONE in the house. However, one side of the patio was covered with rat droppings in the morning. From the porch, we watched rats scamper from one cactus to another. I would suggest putting rat traps on the side of the house to help with this. Our dog had to stay inside because she kept eating the rat droppings.

3. No black out curtains in the bedrooms. Ok, this is a desert house. The sun is in full swing by 6:30am every day. For the comfort of your guests, please hang up some black out curtains. Not everyone wants full sun at the wee hours of the morning. Considering the price we paid, it is not unreasonable to expect to sleep past 6:30am.

4. Great kitchen, but no staples. Sugar? Coffee? Napkins? Sponges? Nope! The kitchen had a very nice selection of pots, pans, and appliances, but we had to buy even the most basic items. When guests arrive at 7:30pm, it'd be nice to have some coffee available for that first morning.

5. Cigarette butts all around the yard and on the porch. It's a rental, I get it. I expected a "Non Smoking House" to clean that up.

6. Beat up furniture inside house. Beds gave us backaches.

I paid a premium expecting a luxury rental or at least something nicer than my own house. May want to consider different pricing for weddings vs. families.

Owner's Response: I was so sad to read this, our first negative review ever. We've been in business for over 10 years and are proud of the overwhelmingly positive response our guests have had through the years. I'm so glad that everyone in your group had an amazing time though and that you found the house to your liking. That is reassuring. The house is thoroughly cleaned by a staff of six after every reservation however, being located on the edge of a 60,000 acre desert wilderness (where winds have their way), it is impossible to have no dust. We do try though. This year, we've had an amazing bloom, thanks to all the great rain, so pollen seems to be everywhere. We could never guarantee an allergen free environment. We also pride ourselves on keeping a rodent free house and glad that you experienced that as well. It is never wise to let a dog roam freely outside given the animals in our vicinity, especially a small dog. Controlling the critter population outside is a fool's errand at best, I'm afraid. I'm sorry that you didn't find the coffee, assortment of teas, sugar, honey, flour, pasta, sauce, oatmeal, etc in the pantry. We always leave a little something for our guests given how far from a grocery store we are. We are the only house in the area to provide such an extensive assortment. I so wish you had called the staff to let them know of your complaints. I can assure you they would have been remedied asap. I know that the desert isn't for everyone. It is wild and exotic. We try to create a civilized environment for our guests. So sorry we weren't able to do that for you.

Amazing Thanksgiving in phenomenal property!

  • 5 of 5

Just got back from 5 nights at Pipes Canyon Lodge for Thanksgiving with my siblings and significant others. The 5 of us were absolutely swimming in space with the 3 well-appointed bedrooms (master ensuite is particularly nice which I nabbed for myself!). The first night we grilled outside and it was luxury to be able to choose whether I wanted to go gas or charcoal (both of which were well maintained and super-clean). Every day we'd crank up a fire in both the living room and dining room which gave the house that cozy/festive feel. Each night was capped off with a dip in the hot-tub (quick to heat, recessed into the ground, and there is fire place in that room too!). As I said we were there for thanksgiving and I was a bit nervous before-hand about how well equipped the kitchen would be given all the cooking we expected to do. The kitchen did not disappoint at all. Huge stove top w/ 5 burners, TWO ovens, and tons of pots/pans/etc. Finally, there is a great trail-head only about 4 minutes walk from the house which was a welcome discovery after numerous days of binge eating. All in all, can't recommend this house enough and we were incredibly happy with our holiday escape from the noise of LA to the serenity of Pipes Canyon.

Spacious, well appointed, wonderful setting

  • 5 of 5

Stayed three nights to attend a daughter's desert wedding. We had three bedrooms with two couples and the groom's Mom plus three relatives in the jacuzzi room. All felt accommodated. The kitchen is well appointed and easy to work in with plenty of pots and pans, skillets, etc. Mr. Coffee and the toaster were put to good use. The interior layout is easy for anyone with a walking disability. The beds were good. Mornings on the veranda with coffee as the sun painted the mountains across the valley was special. Highly recommended. Pamela was pleasant to work with.

Owner's Response: Mike and his family were wonderful to work with. We were delighted to have them stay with us during such a special time. Our staff appreciated the excellent shape they left the house in and how respectfully they were treated. I hope they will return again and again to enjoy the canyon. Thank you! Pamela

The Perfect Getaway

  • 5 of 5

It hasn't been 24 hours since I had the pleasure of weekending at Pipes Canyon Lodge, and I'm already longing to be back. The house was tidy, the kitchen is large and well equipped, and the decor is wonderfully eccentric. Pamela and Steve are clearly quite the world travelers! The weekend was an adventurous one, filled with lots of hiking, climbing, and springs blooms. We had clear skies all weekend, but it was surprisingly windy and cold, so the hot tub room was definitely a nice thing to come back to after a long day of trekking. Everyone in our group was completely blown away upon arrival to this little desert gem, and I will definitely be coming back! If you're looking for the perfect quiet, nature-filled getaway, there's no better place to look than Pipes Canyon Lodge!

A very very special place

  • 5 of 5

We really lucked out with choosing Pipes Canyon Lodge as our wedding venue. Not only is it a beautiful and perfectly realized house and property, it's also a perfect canvas to tailor a unique event to. There are nice wide open spaces, beautiful views of the surrounding landscape and canyons, and several different unique and inviting areas around the property to craft a wedding around.

After booking Pipes Canyon, we stopped by the house to visit Pamela and Steve, and left feeling like everything was going to be OK. It's true, you can't help but to feel that way when you're there. And, as if the place wasn't already perfect enough, the day we checked in we found the property to be even more beautiful. Everything was perfectly tidy, indoors and out... we just couldn't have been happier.

Long story short, we loved it, and our guests felt the same. You can't imagine how many times I heard, "WOW, this is amazing, how did you find this place?!!".

We'll certainly be back to Pipes Canyon Lodge, and hope you enjoy it too!

Whatever you have in mind, this is the perfect place!

  • 5 of 5

If you've read through the other reviews, I'm not sure what else I could add...just more preaching to the choir. This place was an absolute gem. We basically decided to commit to holding our wedding & reception at the property based on nothing more than the pictures on the site, but when we actually saw the house a few weeks later in person, WOWZA! Blown away is an understatement.

The pictures and descriptions of the property, while beautiful, do not really convey the splendor of the place and the serenity you feel when you're actually there. Even during the mad dash of getting everything set up there was a peace that envelopes you and reassures that everything is all right. All of our you're-getting-married-where??-hardcore-city-folk guests were wowed...and they all instantly understood why we love the desert so much.

And as if the place wasn't enough, Pamela and Stephen were simply joys to work with. Any and every question we had was answered in what felt like an instant. They made what is sometimes a very stressful event very very easy!

To anyone looking for a place to do...whatever: wedding, family reunion, weekend getaway...don't think, just go!

Owner's Response: Henry and Abby, To a person, our staff loved working with you! Two nicer people we have not met. You were a delight from the first inquiry to your departure after the wedding. On Monday, the entire crew commented on how graciously they were treated by not only you, but your entire family and your guests. When the water glitch on wedding day threatened to derail some of the plans for the day, you acted as if it was no big deal. Thanks to your troubleshooting, we were able to get it fixed. You have to be the calmest groom ever! Remember, you have a night on us so please hurry back. Thank you, Pamela and Stephen
