What to do in Beautiful Maggie Valley: Maggie Valley and the surrounding area truly has something for every member of the family. If hiking & nature are your favorite things, or if you are more interested in golf at one of the area courses, the cool temperatures and friendly natives will make your stay pleasurable. Several riding stables, including Queens Farm and Cataloochee offer trail rides daily. Skiing is minutes away in the early spring and fall at Cataloochee Ski Resort near Ghost Town. Numerous rafting companies operate on the Nantahala River and several levels of excitement await the rafting enthusiasts. A word to the wise--the water here is from the mountains and it is notoriously chilly! The Great Smokey Mountain Railroad has scenic tours through the mountain passes boarding at the station in Dillsboro--check departure times and inquire about the sunset tours as well.
Asheville is a Must See!: A quick 30 minutes east on I-40 lies the town of Asheville, with it's charming old downtown section, dotted with quaint shops and delicious gourmet restaurants. If you are lucky, you'll be in town for the Southern Highland Craft Fair at the Asheville Civic Center and see the finest the area's crafters have to offer. In southern Asheville (Exit 50 on I-40) is Biltmore Village, home of the famous Biltmore Estate and Winery. If you have never been to Biltmore, it is a must see and a delightful way to spend the day on another continent. Like any large city, Asheville has a very nice mall and very nice traditional dining, but also beautiful gardens everywhere, and enchanting southern architecture at every turn. Probably what attracts us to Asheville the most are the great antiquing opportunities. Antique malls, barns and warehouses dot the city and we have great fun both window shopping and collecting. If you can, go see the beautiful old Grove Park Inn on Charlotte Street.
Heading to the West: The Cherokee Indian Reservation and Harrah's Casino are a 30 minute drive to the west on Route 19. On the other side of beautiful Smokey Mountain National Park, about a 1 1/2 hour drive, is Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, and of course, Dollywood. Gatlinburg is known for it's unusual assortment of interesting shops, Ripley's Museum, and restaurants. Pigeon Forge has an amazing artisan community with many galleries and working studios. Pigeon Forge is also a haven for outlet shoppers, as well as home to the popular theme park Dollywood.
Dogs are welcome at Dogwood Creek . We have a non-refundable pet fee of $100.00 not listed in the payment schedule. We ask that your dogs be crated when left alone for their safety and comfort in a strange place.

About Janie or Mike Hinkle
We are Mike and Janie Hinkle and although we live in Florida now, Mike was born and raised in Asheville. We bought Dogwood Creek in 1994 as a vacation getaway so that we could be close to Asheville, but have access to the slower pace of a small town like Maggie Valley. We have owned and operated a full service camera store, lab, and frame shop in Florida for over 30 years, and coming up to Dogwood Creek is the perfect escape from work, even though we do keep in touch now that we finally have wifi and decent cell service!
Janie or Mike Hinkle purchased this House in 1994
Why Janie or Mike Hinkle chose Maggie Valley
This house was perfect for us and our two girls. It was close to everything in the valley, had plenty of room for guests, cook-outs, and hiking trips, and a stream running across the bottome of the property--my favorite sound! We have come back several times a year since then, sometimes by ourselves, and sometimes dragging friends to share in the cool days and nights that North Carolina has to offer. It's not difficult to find people that want to escape Florida in the summer!
What makes this House unique
Dogwood Creek has a multitude of unique benefits. It has excellent proximity to town, a very private feel nestled in the trees, but still has very easy access on paved roads. The three levels of the house make it a natural choice for families, giving ample space for individual activities within the house. The bunk room is perfect for kids and teens and features a private bath. The guest room on the main floor is great for grandparents who don't want to make the extra climb to the third floor and is close to the kitchen and living areas as well. The upstairs master bedroom offers privacy with a private bath and walk-in closet as well. The loft off the master bedroom is a great place to nap or read any time of the day. One of our favorite features are the porches on the first two levels. The bottom porch is home to the hot tub, while the second floor porch features everyone's favorite two-seater swing, as well as porch rockers and, of course, the gas grill. Overlooking the woods and the creek, the back porches are the most popular places we've found to relax at Dogwood Creek.

Great place, even better than discribed!!
No negative issues at all, the cabin was even nicer than shown in the photos. Super clean and included everything that you could possibly need for a great stay. Property was clean, tidy and well equipped right down to clean towels. We loved the place and plan to stay there again soon. The cabin is centrally located but is off the beaten path enough to be super private. Loved it!!
Thanks Joel. Come back soon! Fall is incredible!
My family and I really enjoyed our stay at Dogwood Creek for Memorial Day weekend. Janie was one of the most attentive owners I have ever worked with on VRBO! The house was exactly as pictured and we did not need AC at all! In fact we needed heat the first night. The upstairs bedroom had wonderful privacy, it was like its own little suite up there which was great. This was the best Wi-Fi I have had on a mountain trip period. I was travelling with teenagers and they loved the bunk bed room and the RETRO feel with the VCR (the idea of rewinding the videos made for a good laugh). We enjoyed the fire pit, the stream and the hot tub. I recommend delivery from Rendezvous for any day that you decide to just relax and never leave the house. As a traveler I kept looking at this house and it had everything I wanted but I was nervous about the A/C I am so happy I read the reviews and went ahead. Trust me, we did not need it and the location of this house right there on the mountain cannot be beat overall I felt like it was a great value. I will definitely try to book this house again next Memorial Day!
Thank you Leticia! I'm delighted that you and your family enjoyed your stay.
Great for a Girl's Trip
Thanks so much to The Hinkles for sharing this lovely cabin. We are 5 women who meet every year to hike and reconnect. What a perfect house. The house is spacious and clean. The beds are soft and comfortable and the kitchen well stocked. We would gladly stay there again. There was a small problem with the internet but that happens in the mountains!!
Once you acclimate to the winding road up the mountain, this was a great family getaway! The home was absolutely beautiful with plenty of space! We did encounter minor issues as there is no cable/satellite (we were under impression that there was since the confirmation email from homeaway.com listed it) and the Wi-Fi was not working but the Hinkle's were very accommodating in working with us in trying to get the problem resolved (note: they did get a new router so there should be no issues with Wi-Fi in the future)!! The area was just as stunning with local attractions/shopping all being within close proximity. We can't wait to plan our next trip!! Thanks to the Hinkle's for making this a great first trip to Maggie Valley for us!
Excellent value and peaceful surroundings
The house is spacious, comfortable and in good repair. Furnishings are tasteful and comfortable. The kitchen, in particular, was extremely well stocked---much better than I had expected or experienced in other rented locations. Beds were comfortable and bedding fresh and clean. The weather was warm during our stay, but the ceiling fans kept the home at a comfortable temperature. Plenty of warm water for 6 people taking showers. The large decks were wonderful and afforded extended space for sitting and visiting with other family members who were staying in scattered locations around MV. Sitting on the porch swing while listening to the creek will do wonderful things for one's attitude! The grounds are shaded by many tall trees and just lovely. Very convenient location, too. I especially appreciate that there were no added cleaning fees or other charges---amazing value, in my opinion. We were all extremely pleased with our choice and would be happy to return someday.
Great Getaway in the Mountains!!
The house was exactly as described and easy access to everything. Would have rated it a 5 star if we had TV reception and more privacy at the hot tub.The house below us had people in and out all the time.
Janie was great to work with and always in contact...could'nt have asked for better owners. Would rent again if the TV issue is taken care of.
I am sorry the TV was such an issue for your trip. We do not have satellite or cable this year because of dense tree growth, but we do have the wireless internet, and the ability to stream and to use netflix, which we clearly state on our listing. I feel such an unusually (3 stars??) harsh review is unwarranted considering the other amenities Dogwood has to offer. We have only had one review less than 5 stars in 8 years of rentals, and that was due to our housekeeper neglecting to leave the porch light on for a late check-in!
Dogwood Creek is located about one mile off Highway 19 (Soco Road) in the heart of Maggie Valley. The elevation is approximately 3500' and access to the house is 80% paved road and the rest well-maintained gravel. Miniature Golf, horseback riding and Ghost Town are literally minutes away from the house.
