About Terri

Growing up on the original 103 acre farm, Terri has a true passion for what she and her husband of 28 years have ventured into.  Though the farm has dwindled in size, Clay and Terri Vick still maintain and operate 17 acres as a horse boarding facility, keeping their own horses as well.  Realizing horses were going to be a huge part of our lives we created Willow Pond Stables 19 years ago.  Now we are excited to offer A Cottage at Willow Pond for others to share our joy in this wonderful place we live.

Terri purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Terri chose Smoky Mountains

The house has been part of the family for 50 + years.  Terri's grandfather raised a large family on this farm.  It was his wish to continue to have horses and family here.  He would be pleased to know people can come enjoy what he started.

What makes this cottage unique

Off the beaten path, yet so close to all conveniences.  Nestled in a beautiful valley, horses all around the property.  Enjoy nature at its finest, fox, deer, frogs, fish, and occasionally a duck in the pond.  Sounds of horses grazing just outside the front door.  Goats, chickens and miniature horses are on the property too! Only 5 minutes to restaurants, gas, movies, grocery and shopping.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for a wonderful time. We enjoyed your cottage very much. It was nice to be close to Asheville but able to enjoy the countryside .

Tranquil setting but close to everything

  • 5 of 5

We just got back from a very nice stay at the cottage. We probably could have wasted the day away drinking coffee and just taking in the relaxing setting. The cottage was well appointed with the basic necessities and if we were missing anything shops and restaurants were only a few miles away. It was the perfect place to hang out after our daily trips exploring Asheville. We didnt catch any fish but we had fun trying.. Would book again for a return trip.

Close to town

The farm and horses were beautiful to wake up to, organic farm fresh eggs we're a lovely touch. We enjoyed our visit very much however the NO EXCEPTION 10am checkout is unacceptable. I have a small child and had not one second to enjoy our final day as we were so very rushed to be out by ten to avoid the 125.00 fee we would receive if any one of our party was there past 10am. We also didn't mind cleaning up after ourselves but since we're paying a hefty enough cleaning fee for each adult and my 1.5 year old? I found a few things a little annoying. Other than those few things it was a good stay.

Just What We Were Looking For!

  • 5 of 5

Who would have believed that just a few minutes away from Asheville you could find a place like The Cottage! After a 3.5 hour drive we turned off the highway, drove about a quarter of a mile, turned left, and within minutes you'd never have known there was a city nearby. You turn on Lance Road and it's like you're in another world. Instead of traffic, crowds, and the bustle and noises associated with cities and hotels, you have a bridge over a creek, a pasture, barns, horses, a pond...and The Cottage.

It looked just like the pictures online and was spotless. Terri and Clay have thought about everything you might need to know and have left helpful information in all the right places, including how to reach them if you need to. Among the "starter" supplies they provide are half a dozen farm-fresh eggs in the refrigerator for breakfast.

Just about anything else you'd need is within a 10 minute drive: We picked up a delicious carry-out supper from 12 Bones Smokehouse (terrific ribs and my wife said the pulled pork sandwich may have been the best she's ever eaten). We stopped by Ingles to get some groceries and supplies. We ate a simple breakfast at Starbuck's the last morning after celebrating our anniversary with dinner on the Sunset Terrace at the Grove Park Inn, which is less than 20 minutes away. It was an expensive dinner. But every course was delicious, the service was spot on, the early evening view was amazing, and after all - it was our anniversary! If you want to eat at any of the dining areas at the GPI, be sure to make reservations well ahead of time.

If you love nature at all, we highly recommend spending a couple of hours at the North Carolina Arboretum. A $14 parking fee is all you pay, no matter how many are in your car. Check it out online. Lunch at their Cafe is passable if you have a nice meal planned for that night. :-) If you go to the Grove Park Inn be sure to visit the galleries and auto museum in Grovewood Village right across the street. We've toured Biltmore Estate several times on previous trips, but if you haven't been there put it on your short list.

If we could have a do-over for the weekend, would we stay at The Cottage again? Absolutely!

Great place except for wasps around the hot tub. They frightened the ladies.

The Backdrop for a Wonderful Family Trip Filled with the Great Outdoors!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay! The property is so beautiful and peaceful...and the horses truly came up to the fence to greet us as we pulled in for the first time! The house is well equipped with everything you need. Everyone enjoyed fishing at the pond to which my son ended up catching a nice bass. The kids also loved walking around the outside area of the barn to visit with Bun, Bun and Clover the bunnies. Millicent the barn cat was as sweet as she could be. They loved checking in on her. I enjoyed sipping my coffee on the front porch in the rocking chair first thing in the morning and having a glass of wine there at night. The hot tub was so nice after a day of excursions around the area.

The location of the house was ideal for us. Proximity was about 20 minutes to everything we did. Zen Tubing just up the road made for a wonderful, relaxing morning of floating. We visited all the adventures that Pisgah National Forest had to offer, and then squeezed in a trip to the Biltmore as well. Sierra Nevada Brewing was recommended by the owners. So glad we tried it. Beautiful facility tucked away with great atmosphere and food...very close to the home. Hendersonville is about 20 minutes away as well. We had a great meal there at Flat Rock Wood Room.

If you are looking for a quiet, country experience..but with the capability of easily exploring all that Asheville has to offer, I would definitely recommend this little cottage. For us, it provided the perfect backdrop for a wonderful family trip filled with the great outdoors...leaving little time for electronics (if you needed to plug in...the wifi worked well)!
