Perfect for Family on a Budget - One Bedroom House

Bedrooms 1
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

House, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

This charming beach cottage is the perfect solution for the smaller family on a budget. Located on a nice, quiet court in North Mission Beach, the ocean and boardwalk are just a 45 second stroll away. Fresh paint and new furnishings have recently been added by the long-time owners of this spotless home.

As a single standalone house you have a private, fenced patio and no common walls with other units like the more expensive condo properties. This is true beach living reminiscent of the small California beaches of days long past.

Located in the Historic Mission Beach section, many shops and restaurants are nearby for your convenience. With a queen bed and a queen sofa/sleeper, there is plenty of room for Mom, Dad and 2 kids. And the prices beat any hotel in town this close to the ocean. Don't think you can't still afford your vacation in this economy - this house makes it a reality.

Smaller than the pics show, very dated

  • 2 of 5

The Good: The owner was very accommodating and allowed us to check in early and the location was perfect. Plenty of amazing bars and restaurants in all directions and attractions close by. The beach was about 20 paces away, which is always a plus. The Bad: the condo was very dated with paint chipping from the walls and shotty repairs that had been attempted from the past. The courtyard was very old with plants and trees that looked like they were on their last legs. If you like plastic then you would love the outdoor plastic table and 2 plastic chairs that were already cracked and barely useable. The Ugly: the refrigerator was rusted on the top, sides and around the edges of the door. Certain fixtures were also rusted and it appeared to have been many layers of paint over paint throughout the condo over the years. Honestly if the owner through 50k into the place it would a truly be a unique and cozy place to stay for a small family.

Cute and quaint

  • 4 of 5

Great location! My husband and I love historic homes, so we could appreciate this little place and it's qwerks. It was a great rate for the location, but if the owner just put in a little more effort in the aesthetics he could charge more $$.... Besides that, it had everything we needed. The weekend we were there was cold and rainy, so we made good use of the extra blankets and little space heater. Kitchen had what we needed and bed was comfy. We would stay again.

We loved the location. The house is vintage which we appreciated

House is in a great location. It has it's own garage which was a lifesaver by the beach. It is an authentic 40's house. Needed a little TLC here and there but the Mgr. was good at taking care of us. I cooked a big Easter dinner and there was enough of everything to get the job done. Close to the beach and walking distance from a lot of places to eat. We easily accessed a lot of places in town. Thanks Dave.

Close to the beach cute and OLD..!!

For the price, you pay for what you get.

The location is awesome close to everything.

But just a few upgrades and this would be a wonderful place to stay.

All in all we still had a good time but this home is probably the most run down on the block.

construction of new homes going on across sidewalk so be ready to get up bright and early.

For the Price I don't think it can be beat but just a few upgrades and this would be an awesome place to come back too.

Great location but..

  • 3 of 5

The only good thing I have to say about my experience at this beach cottage is the location. It was perfect.

One negative was the garage (which could not fit a car over 6.5 feet) and hence parking on the street, which was next to impossible in the summer. I called Dave upon arriving and discovering my car could not fit, asking for suggestions. He never returned the call. Much of our 3 night stay was moving the car and driving around to find another spot. Another negative was no satellite/cable TV as advertised. Third negative was the ill fitting screens on windows. And lastly it was dirty. My feet got filthy just walking around the house. But the location was great.. only reason for the stars..

In need of some ceiling fans, otherwise quite nice.

  • 4 of 5

The house is pretty much 1942 original. It needs ceiling fans to allow for air circulation. Other than that, it met our needs very nicely.
