This new home with panoramic, bi-coastal views is centrally located for all your North Shore and Upcountry activities. For those into water sports such as wind surfing kite boarding and surfing. Consider it your 'command post' where you can wake up in the morning and immediately see where the conditions will be best! You can see the north shore breaks and some of the South Shore ones from this house, and even spot individual kites or windsurfers on the water with binoculars! Once you decide where to go, you are only 12 minutes to Paia Bay, 15 minutes to Ho'okipa, 15 minutes to Sprecklesville, and 15 minutes to Kanaha Beach. You will also remain central to all the Upcountry activities such as hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, road biking, zip lines, and sight seeing in Haleakela National Park. A great house with everything you need. And a beautiful view!

The house had everything you could need, especially the kitchen. A pleasant surprise was there were beach towels available and snorkeling gear down stairs in the laundry. Our 4 year old who can’t even swim learnt to snorkel. What a great Hawaii experience!

We really enjoyed staying upcountry away from the crowds and pretending to be local for a brief time.

Great panoramic view and quietness. Love the comfort of home away from home.

My family rented both 1115 and 1095. Housekeeping in 1115 could be improved due to construction dust. Convenient centralized location to other parts of Maui. Love the short walk to restaurants in Makawao.

Owner's Response: The house underwent major renovations and this is the first visit since that time. The cleaners must have missed some of the details such as inside some cabinets and such. I offered to have them come back to finish detailed cleaning but guests declined. This was a one-time incident due to renovations, and the place is usually spic and span per other reviews.

Comfortable place, fantastic view and wonderful host!

My husband and I stayed at Pookela Paradise for one month during Nov-Dec. We were in love with the view from this house!! The rainbows were incredible and my husband loved watching the planes fly in and out of the airport at night. Sunsets are amazing as well.

The kitchen is well stocked with everything we needed to have our family over for Thanksgiving. The location is perfect for getting to the best Farmers Market on Saturdays behind Longs Drugs and we were only 5 minutes from our grandkids school. You could walk into Makawao to shop and eat and on the third Friday of each month they have a great street party in Makawao!!!!

My husband loved grilling everynight on the deck and we enjoyed watching movies on the new 65" Roku TV. The owner, Mark, was very helpful and provided us with anything we were missing. If we had any issues with anything he promptly addressed the issue and solved the problem. It is in a neighborhood and there are chickens and dogs, like in most neighborhoods on Maui. There is no AC so you will be sleeping with the windows open. If you are a light sleeper bring your earplugs and you'll be fine:) The temperatures while we were there got down into the high 50's, so was quite chilly! It is the rainy season too, so be sure to pack a raincoat if coming in the winter time. In the summertime it would be incredible compared to the heat of Kihei!! I loved that we were in a local neighborhood away from the normal "tourist" seen. Driving up to the forest or Thompson Road for a nice walk was minutes away. The grocery store we used most was the Foodland in Pukalani, but I bought all my veggies, homemade curries, coffee, fruit and fresh Ahi tuna and Halibut at the Farmers Market every Saturday. Costco is just about 10-15 minutes down Haleakala Hwy to stock up on other essentials if staying for more than a week or so. The full size washer and dryer were nice to have too! Plenty of big beach towels and several types of coolers with ice packs in the freezer. Mark has gone out of his way to make sure this place is nice and we were very excited to have stayed here and gotten to know him! Mahalo Mark for your hospitality!! Jo Ann and Mark

Amazing Maui Stay

Pookela Paradise was just perfect! Mark was a great host and the house was quiet and in a great location. I'd recommend this spot to anyone exploring upcountry, Haiku, Makawao, Paia, or just looking to upgrade over hotels!

Nice house but needs some attention, great views, missing disclaimers

The house is lovely and the views are spectacular. Very comfortable living area and adequate kitchen. However, there are a couple of things that should have been disclosed:

1-the other house on the property is having renovations done. For most people I'm sure this is no big deal HOWEVER, we really could have used a couple of days to decompress at our own pace but had to choose between listening to hammering and power saws and being gone all day.

2-Owner lives on site, underneath this house. Again, not a big deal, he's a nice enough guy BUT, when he comes back after dark and cleans up his jet ski or whatever RIGHT under the floor height transom windows in the livingroom and the gasoline fumes invade the whole livingroom...not great.

The blinds in the master bedroom are both broken and we couldn't get the window right above the headboard closed so had to stuff towels in the opening to keep from having the torrential rains reaching our faces in the middle of the night.

Also, I know we were up country but, the neighbor below has a young dog that just cries ALL the time.

Also, supplies we're short like hand soaps, dishwasher detergent...again, not s really big deal but still.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your feedback. I pride myself on prompt response and prompt action to any requests whenever possible. Let me address concerns individually. 1 - Renovations are nearly complete on the upper house, Pookela Paradise 2 - it’s going to be fantastic! Unfortunately, the roof was going on during this stay, which is the noisiest of all the trades since it's outside and involves lots of nailing with nail guns. Completion date for renovations is 20Dec2017 and most of the trades will be working inside for the remainder of that time - drywall, flooring, etc. 2 - I don't live on site at this property, but I am using the downstairs owners office (which is completely separate from the house) until renovations are complete at the other house. I do keep a jet ski in the garage at this property, and have for several years now, but I've never had any complaints. But, given this feedback I will be more careful not to flush it if anyone guests are home since this does in fact require running the engine to do so. I typically only use the jet-ski once or twice a month. 3 - I wasn't made aware of the blinds and/or window during this stay, but now that I am they will be addressed and repaired immediately 4 - The only close-by neighbour this house has had not one, but three new puppies that were kept in an outside kennel for a couple days during this guest's stay and yes, their barking was annoying. This was a temporary situation which has been addressed and the neighbour has relocated them. 5 - My cleaners provide enough sundries to get guests started during their stay but as a self-catered property they aren't asked or expected to replenish all supplies. So future guest know what to expect to be there, they provide: small hotel sized bar soaps, small hotel sides shampoo and body lotion, at least one roll of toilet paper per bathroom, and a box of Kleenex. Usually there are some other supplies on hand, but only if left by other guests. So if shopping you may wish to include the following items on your list: small quantities of dish soap, dishwasher soap, laundry detergent, and anything else you may need beyond what's listed as included above. I hope this helps to clarify. Once again, thank you for your feedback it is always much appreciated so we can maintain the quality of our property and our usual five-star review record.
