About Kent

I purchased this property 18 years ago and spent two years restoring the 3 level structure and planting the gardens. I was honored to have it featured in the 2007 Historic Tour of San Diego homes... I am also a Realtor and home design & garden Consultant. Began home remodeling homes 35 years ago. Am happy to offer insider tips on great places to visit/best local restaurants, have shown real estate and sold several homes to visiting guests, as well. Dozens have become annual guests, reserving weeks or months here annually, becoming close personal friends.

The expansive gardens and our central location are among its special features. The unexpected scale of the property, well disguised from the street, startles most visitors. A special treat are the visiting wildlife - whether roosting in trees or drinking from the fountains... hawks, owls, parrots, squirrels, hummingbirds, even an occasional fox.

Each time my wife & I return to this perfectly appointed and warm Craftsman home in the perfect location (minutes to Balboa Park, Coronado, Hillcrest, Downtown, shopping -- everything!) we feel like second-home owners ourselves, as we sip our coffee in our private hummingbird- and fountain-filled garden. Great location, spacious, and private.

One of the best stays that we've ever had! Only a short walk to the zoo, Balboa park, and local sites. Easy parking. The suite was well-kept, easy to get to, and centrally located. Kent, the owner was extremely accessible and very nice. We would highly recommend this location to couples wanting to visit San Diego.

Exceeded our expectations

The property is really nice, well furnished and well taken care of. The area was perfect for us, close to Balboa Park, the Zoo and within walking distance to quite a few places to eat and get a drink. The big plus for us was a pair of bicycles available for our use. We are avid bicyclists so we peddled to most of our destinations. We rode downtown, explored the park and lots of the surrounding areas. Our week went by way too quickly and if we visit San Diego again one of Kent's properties in this little compound will be our first choice.

Stay here while in San Diego!

My husband and I booked this unit fairly late so I was surprised it was even available - especially given all of the previous 'excellent' reviews. And it did not disappoint! Kent met us at the door and showed us around the property which was absolutely stunning. Attention to every detail, our spacious top floor apartment had everything we needed. The in-unit laundry was handy to have as was the spacious parking. A quiet oasis not far from the Park, we found it to be centrally located to everything we wanted to do. University Street had numerous bars and restaurants. Lots of options. Great farmer's market on Thursday evening for fresh produce and other goodies. Would recommend a car if you want to sight see, but the buses seemed to be easy to navigate. Definitely spend a day at the San Diego Zoo and touring the many museums of Balboa Park. Old Town was entertaining for an afternoon. There really wasn't a park of San Diego we didn't like. When we return we hope to be able to stay here again. Peaceful Oasis in San Diego!

We traveled to San Diego for the first time to visit our son. What a lucky choice to stay at the Tree Top Suite! We loved San Diego and that was only made perfect for this peaceful oasis to return to at day's end! The pictures do a good job of showing your share of this protected compound, but you have to experience it. The kitchen had all we needed plus, the bed was so very cozy and clean, the water was plentiful and hot, and the den was like home!! But, that is just the inside. Tree Top shines on the outside. The balcony provided a place to enjoy coffee in the morning while watching a hummingbird enjoy the fountain, and a place for a relaxing evening meal with a cool breeze! We were in convenient to everything in San Diego, yet removed from the city noise and hustle. Just can't say enough about this fantastic house and location! Thanks Kent for opening your wonderland to us and others! Environments like Tree Top Suite don't just happen. It results from years of nurturing care and love....and we were able to enjoy it

for too short of a time! Hope to come back soon!

Peaceful and Quiet Retreat

My husband and I spent five lovely nights at the tree top suite. It is very well equipped, spotless (inside and out) and has the perfect location. Parking is easy and convenient. The home is beautifully restored and the grounds are gorgeous. I loved to sit on the terrace and listen to the fountain. The whole place is filled with the smell of jasmine and the lush plantings definitely create a tropical oasis. We felt very comfortable and safe. Kent was waiting for us when we arrived, gave us a great tour of the property, is extremely responsive and made some great suggestions for activities. We will return.

Great Place to Stay

This is our third stay here and we couldn't be happier. Not only does the suite look exactly like the pictures but it is comfortable, in a quiet neighborhood and spacious. It is very close to Balboa Park. Kent is a wonderful host and always helpful when you have questions, but never intrusive. You will be wowed by the outdoor space as well. We have recommended the treetop suite to friends, who will be staying here in February.
