About Ann Marie Edwards

We were living in Tulsa, OK when we bought the property at Bear Lake Reserve. We knew that one day we would be back on the East Coast and our dream was to have a family vacation home for our children and future grandchildren. We have since moved to Ponte Vedra Beach, FL and our children live in NYC, Baltimore and Charleston, SC. We are now looking forward to having our 2 grandchildren, ages 1 and 4, visit BLR in October! We will continue to rent our cottage for the busy summer months and use it ourselves during the off months. We hope to eventually spend half of the year at Bear Lake and the other half in FL. We have always loved the WNC mountains - hope you do too!

Why Ann Marie Edwards chose Bear Lake Reserve

Our vacation rental is our dream vacation spot and we always look forward to our time there. It's always a special time for us. We already have many wonderful memories and can't wait to have more. We appreciate every minute of each day - whether we are golfing, hiking, canoeing, exploring the neighboring towns or just relaxing and connecting with nature and its beauty. When it's time to return to our other lives back in FL, we hate to say goodbye!

What makes this cabin unique

Everything we need is at our fingertips for a relaxing or busy day in the beautiful Smoky Mountains! From the moment you walk through the front door, there is wonderful natural light and a view of mountain foliage through the open back deck. We love the sounds of nature that surround us.

Guestbook comments from the manager

If 1 is the lowest and 5 is highest, I would rate the total experience a 5. I recall that everyone was especially courteous when I was communicating via email concerning reservations, etc. The home was well stocked with essentials and everything was in perfect shape. There was a good variety of brochures and reading material concerning shopping, attractions, restaurants, and other information about the area, which is very helpful for those who are unfamiliar with the many things to see and do!

The Reserve was very quiet and serene. We especially enjoyed having breakfast on the deck at the back of the house. It was a sunny, private backyard spot. The clubhouse was VERY impressive! My husband and two sons took kayaks out on the lake one afternoon while I did some shopping in Cashiers. When I returned, we enjoyed beverages poolside while the boys played in the pool.

We also took the opportunity to rent a boat and explore the lake on another afternoon. The miles of undisturbed natural area were beautiful. Our family has vacationed in the Cashiers area for many years, but this was the first time we had the pleasure of enjoying Bear Lake Reserve. It is an amazing place!

Owner's Response: We are so glad to hear that you enjoyed our cottage and Bear Lake Reserve! It truly is a wonderful vacation spot to bring the family together. We're looking forward to having our 4 children, spouses and 2 grandchildren join us there in October. We are fortunate to be able to rent an additional cottage right across our street to accommodate everyone. We can just walk back and forth from one to the other for meals, happy hour and just plain "being together"! We hope we can make it a family tradition - that's what Bear Lake is all about!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The home is beautiful, cozy, clean and comfortable. Couldn't ask for more at the home. The Lake Club was fun - happily surprised to find out the outdoor pools are heated through October. The kids had a great time there. The restaurant was a little bit of a let down due to poor service and hit or miss food but the managers did a good job to make it right.

Great family friendly vacation spot!

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a great time at bear lake. House was extremely clean and very comfortable inside and out. The lake club is very upscale and has everything you need to relax or have some fun on the lake. You can have drinks and food by the pool or rent a boat or jetski. This was a spurt of the moment getaway and honestly I had doubts but I will definitely be back in the future. Last but not least make sure you pay attention when you leave your cabin. We got turned around and spent over a hour trying to get back.

Great secluded home

  • 4 of 5

Home is immaculate and Bear Lake Reserve is easy to work with. The staff there is friendly and helpful and so is the homeowner. The cabin is very clean and new. There are plenty of activities at the Reserve. It is centrally located to small towns but a bit cumbersome to even leave the reserve is a good 20 minutes. There is NO land around the actual cabin and no privacy.

Owner's Response: The attraction and beauty of Bear Lake Reserve is its mountainside setting, fabulous amenities and its pristine unspoiled lake. It is located 3 miles off of Route 107, 7 miles from Western Carolina University and Sylva, and 19 miles from Cashiers. Our cottage is conveniently located approximately midway from the main entrance to the lake. It is among 4 other homes at the bottom of the road, along the cul-de-sac, and it's a perfect setting for family gatherings that rent several cottages, keeping everyone close to one another. All of the cottages at Bear Lake Reserve have little “land”, as they are all surrounded by and nestled among the steep, lush mountainside foliage. Additionally, our open back deck with propane grill offers great seclusion overlooking the deep woods and is a perfect setting for a private, relaxing outdoor dinner. Please call us and we'll be glad to answer any questions that you may have. Bear Lake Reserve is a very special place for our entire family - we love it!

Great Girls Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had a great girls getaway at Bear Lake. It is centrally located to various small towns (Sylva, Cashiers, Bryson City and Highlands). Some in our group wanted to just chill and others were a little more active. There was plenty to do for all. Some went hiking while others laid by the pool and read. If you like serenity, change of pace and nice views, this is the place to be. The weather was perfect.
